What is your favorite clarifying shampoo- either sulfate free or not? How often do you clarify (especially if you have oily hair)? Just curious :)

I have a very oily scalp so I use suave clarifying on my scalp, then I use Vo5 carifying on the rest of my hair when needed.

Honestly ACV is one of my favorite things to do to clarify and brighten my hair.

I use sauve clarifying once a month on my entire head. When I use it is when my hormones are going hay wire.

Another vote for Suave clarifying shampoo. I only use it once a month or so, then follow up with a moisturizing treatment.

I use BS and acv rinse or diluted Garnier Pure Clean shampoo. I clarify whenever my head gets especially itchy, sore, or feels like its covered in gunk, or if my hair needs a change/fresh start.

I use the Neutrogena Anti-Residue also. It makes my head itch though. I'll probably try the Suave one once this is gone. I clarify about once a month.

I used Vo5 and didn't like it, it was some sort of special formulation with extra protein, even though that was the last thing i wanted in my hair, so i bought some suave clarifyign shampoo and an gonna use it tonight, does it fade color any more than regualr shampoo?

Suave. :) :)

I'm gonna give my suave clarifying shampoo a go! Also, hate to highjack (i'm doing that alot tonight lol) but, after calrifying 2-3 times (trying to get major product build up out of my hair) in one shower, do you use your usuall shampoo? And i didnt by the sauve conditioner, does it really matter what type i use?

I only use Suave. I bought a bottle last February and still have some left. I wash once a week but only use a dime sized amount when I do.

So excited about Neutrogena Anti Residue. My hair is so soft after that, and my scalp is happy too. My skin is sensitive and this doesn't bother me so far.

Currently using VO5 about once a week. I use a lot of products with cones ( which i love). :)

I use Joico Chelating shampoo followed by Biolage Conditioning balm. Very nice when my hair just needs to "start over" every couple of weeks.

I really like Pantene's clarifying shampoo.

It really cleans well and gets most build up off.
I have had many protein overload disasters and my Pantene clarifying shampoo saves me every time :)

I was using Ion Clarifying Shampoo about 1-2 times per month. Looking for something different now though!

The V05 works well enough for me. :) I use it about once a week because I am using cones again and my hair gets build-up quick. I use a small amount though.

Another for Neutrogena Anti-Residue.
As a long-haired kid, I used to DREAD this stuff, but now I absolutely love it.

Max Green Alchemy's Scalp Rescue Shampoo: http://www.maxgreenalchemy.com/item--Scalp-Rescue-Shampoo--MGASH.html

Kinda pricey, but well worth it in my opinion. SLS, paraben free with all natural ingredients. My scalp loves it :)

Hmmm. I need to get some suave or v05. My old clarifyer always left my hair so dry and brittle. :(

I use Lush Rehab to clarify, it seems to work well for me and a small bottle lasts ages.:)

Redken Hair Cleansing Cream. It's not at all harsh. I always use it before I henna.

I've started using Pantene clarifying shampoo, I only use it once a week & have found it works brilliantly + the big bottle is lasting for ages.

neutrogena anti-residue

Another vote for neutrogena anti residue. Normally SLeS would dry out my hair like crazy but the key for me is to: 1) dilute it a bit in water, 2) use it only when I really, really need it (i.e. lots of build up), and 3) follow it with deep conditioning or henna.

Reviving this thread to ask if anyone mixes baking soda into their shampoo to clarify? I saw that in an old archived thread and wondered if anyone still does it that way?

For the record, I don't use conditioner ever (tons of shedding if I do). I shampoo every other day and oil afterwards. But I feel like I have buildup on my hair anyway and was thinking I might mix a little bs into my normal shampoo which is Head and Shoulders. I know, it seems harsh, but it seems like the only shampoo that keeps me from shedding like crazy.

Redken Hair Cleansing Cream.

Scarlet Heart- it does work. I tried it with my regular SLS shampoo before I found the redken or suave stuff. Just make sure to condition real well after.

I use Neutrogena Anti-Residue, maybe every 3-4 months or longer. I don't get a lot of buildup if I use the right products.

Well, I put some bs in my shampoo and it definitely worked. Made me shed a little extra, but no big deal. Thanks for the input!

We wash weekly, and the hair is clarified weekly, with a regular sl(e)s shampoo (without silicones). We momentarily are using Pantene Aqua Light shampoo, often interchanged with the Ultra Doux 5 herbs shampoo (which is a really great one).

Hmmmm...I was thinking about it, and I really don't "clarify" as often every 3-4 months. I shampoo that often, more or less, but it's with a non-SLS shampoo, so not really a clarifying. I guess I clarify once or twice a year, and sometimes I chelate instead, so that bottle of Neutrogena shampoo lasts a really, really long time. In fact, for some reason I bought a spare bottle and I don't know why, because I probably won't get to it for another few years at least.

Guys, Pantene has a clarifying shampoo. Seriously. I was *so* happy when I discovered this. Just wanted to let you know.

After reading the good reviews here about Neutrogena Anti-Residue Clarifying shampoo I purchased a bottle and clarified my hair for the first time.

It really clarified, stripping everything from my hair. Hair felt like hay and very weird. However, I followed with some conditioner and everything was restored to rights.

Same here, I've used the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo and it really works...smells nice, too. I wash twice when I clarify and let it sit for a couple minutes. Squeaky clean hair from root to tip. Feels dry, so I let the conditioner sit longer than usual to rehydrate it.

It really is like hitting the Reset button on your hair.

MeowScat, Neutrogena ought to use your last sentence on their Anti-Residue Clarifying shampoo! What a great description!

Hibernis, I don't know if this will help but here's a link to a clarifying shampoo that's supposed to be fragrance free (among other aspects):

I've never heard of it or used it. I just did a Google search on fragrance free clarifying shampoo.

Thank you! I saw that as well but it's not currently for sale. I bookmarked it and will keep an eye on it!
