Ok, I'm hoping you ladies and gents can help me with a new problem I've come across with my hair... Prior to joining LHC I have always used heavy-duty (think the kind that says ultra-mega-super-hold) hairspray to help train my part line, secure styles, and tame my flyaway hairs. I used the heavy duty stuff because I only needed a small amount. I've now figured out that the hairspray was causing buildup (no big surprise :p) and making my tangles worse.

So, I stopped using it about two weeks ago... And my hair is driving me NUTS.
It slides out of styles more than ever, I have a serious halo of flyways, and if I put a new part in my hair that it doesn't like, it just flips itself back into its favorite neutral position

So my question is, what can I try as a replacement for hairspray? I have tried gel in the past, including plain AVG, and it just doesn't do the trick. I've recently tried a small amount of EVOO, which does help tame the flyways, but it made my scalp hair greasy (Duh )

Any suggestions? What do you all use to tame unruly hair?

Aubrey Organics makes a natural spray that holds hair. I haven't tried it but I have tried many of their other products and love every one of them!

For the parts, all I can suggest is parting it while your hair's wet, then sticking a hat on while it dries. That's what I have to do if I decide I want a new part!

this may sound silly but if you like the smell, I make "hairspray" by dissolving myhr in hot water. The more myhr I use more hold I get. I think it smells pretty.

This isn't a substitute for hairspray, but what I have started to do the last couple of months is spray some hairspray in my palm, rub my hands together, and then lightly glide my hands over the surface of my hair where I get fly-aways. I find I use much less hairspray, but it still does the trick. I only have to do it the mornings that my hair is freshly washed. It seems to stay okay on my non-wash days.

I went to a much lighter hairspray and just try not to use much. Only in front usually, where I want to keep it back from my face. I had to force myself to stop using it in back. It makes my hair tangle and I find it easier to just not use it ,now. I felt like an addict, weaning myself from the heavy handed spraying. I had some obsession that my hair would move! LOL I am now under control, not freaking out and using a cheaper, light spray very moderately. I am glad I made this change. It is much cheaper, too. I used to spend $10 on a can!

For securing your style and fly aways, I highly recommend using a clay/putty/paste (those things are under a lot of different names). D:Fi makes a great styling paste (forgot the name, it's the blue one) that is of soft to medium hold, depending on the amount you use. It's hardly sticky, and it washes out easily with shampoo (not sure how it works with CO). I used to use it on a daily basis, and it's never built up on me.

If you prefer something with a stronger hold, Bedhead Manipulator and Sebastian Craft Clay are good choices. I've never had trouble washing these out either. A normal shampoo usually does the job.

Cool site, sorry to highjack but, does the mousse work like regular mousse or is it only for scrunching?
