Is ammonium lauryl sulfate like an SLS shampoo? Is it similar?

And...
Are methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone actual silicones? Its Suave Fresh Mountain Strawberry Shampoo.
I have slight SD and when I started using head&shoulders when I was like 12 and it disappeared for the most part. I'm considering going cone free for a bit, but I will admit I'm hesitant.
Thanks everyone!

Yes, ammonium lauryl sulfate is a sulfate and it is a similar chemical compound as SLS.

The other two chemicals listed are preservatives and there are questions regarding their safety in cosmetics after peer reviewed studies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylisothiazolinone) and (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylchloroisothiazolinone).

There are a lot of shampoos out there that are sulfate free (especially any "natural" line) but they will usually advertise that fact on the label (though always check because as always advertisements can be misleading). You can also dilute baby shampoo or castile soap.

If you are having dandruff and scalp issues indian herbs are also really useful in preventing and treating this (do a keyword search and you should find some threads). I also have recently been reading of the anti-fungal properties of coconut oil so that may help and of course many people on here use monastat to treat scalp issues with much success.

Thanks for your response. I'm just going to go shopping at the natural whole foods store for my shampoo if I want to go natural lol!
I'm not a monistat type of person... I do use coconut oil on my scalp and that's good enough for me! Lol!

I guess lots of baby shampoo have sls too, just chk the labels before you buy anything, just as ellisbell suggested.
You can also try out Himalaya herbal shampoo range, they have 100% Indian herbal actives and the perservatives mentioned above by you. You can read the label of that shampoo in one of my post about it. Here's the link http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=85460

Hope this helps.

This is cool, thanks! My hair still loooves cones but the longer it gets, the more I worry about heavy buildup. (Yes I do clarify. Not on a schedule, just whenever my locks feel they need it) I went (mostly) conefree during my last couple washes and shockingly, conefree + a TINY bit of cones (some added slip, come on, I have fine, blonde, occasionally tangly hair) was a success! I really liked it. So my shampoo is next for the conversion! :)
Thanks again :)
