Upon googling this, Ive come across three supposedly 'correct' ways to insert bobby pins. Im looking to use whichever may be least potentially damaging to hair. Here they are:

- just carefully wiggle and slide it in, without opening it up
- open it up a little, put it where you want it, and let go
- use it as you would a hairpin

What do you think?

I do it the second way and take them out in the same manner. I always open my bobby pins first to avoid tearing my hair. :)

I open them up.....with my teeth and insert. Then when I take them out slide my finger in to open them and slide out. I have noticed if I do not do this my hair rips and break.....ouch

I have tried to make them work for 40 years. Still no luck with them :o

The second option - opening it, sliding it in where you want it, and letting it close, is the most hair friendly way.

Yep that's more specifically how I do it. :D. I'm quite the fan of bobby pins. It's all about just being careful when taking them out as opposed to quickly tearing them out.
