I'm trying to figure out how to do this braid, but I can't decide if it's a dutch braid, french braid, or something else. And when I try to find tutorials on how to do it I keep getting ones for braids like this:

I don't want it tight to the head like that, I want them loose and side swept like the first picture. Sorry if this is a dumb question, and thanks for anyone who can help me figure this out. :D

I think that is a french lace braided headband http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR8D1ieuFGo

It looks like a french braid where they only took hair from the top side of the braid, and either added it loosely or pulled to loosen it afterward.

Lilith Moon does a similar style, only as a dutch braid: http://youtu.be/fJd4o_o-AA0

It looks like a French lace braid. If you don't want it tight and along the edge of your hairline, simply start braiding a little below your hairline and continue from there. Notice also where the parting begins and continues.

I agree with Amazinggrace.

To do it, you must french-braid but only add hair to the upper section. You can do it at the distance you want from your face.
