View Full Version : Part with an Updo?

I am curious, how many part their hair when wearing it up?

I part my hair then put it up.

I go both ways...It just depends on how I'm wearing it up and how much my greys are showing...If it's about time for a root touch up, no parting! :)

Before I got my side bangs my hair always had a side parting and it was probably because I'm so hair-lazy that I just left it that way when I put it in an updo lol  Now I have my fringe I think I no longer have a parting when I put it up...... I think anyway....

I comb mine all back so there's no part. My natural part is sort of wonky anyway, goes down the middle then takes a hard left just before the back of my head

I part it and have sections loose at the front when Im not at work. At work I dont part it, I pull it all back with a wide fabric hair band.

For most updos, I donīt part, but sometimes I do. My hair wants to loose its part, however, so though Iīll start in the morning with a part, itīll be gone by mid-afternoon.

I almost always part my hair when I put it up. Especially in half-ups. It's just easier. I find that sometimes my hair hurts if I brush it all back. Maybe the roots are used to being a certain way?

I don't part it if I'm doing a french braid, but I will if it is a regular "english" braid. Sometimes I don't part if I'm doing a bun or some type of all-up that I want to be really sleak.

I think I look incredibly silly with a parted updo... Others look beautiful, but not me. Perhaps it has something to do with my high forehead?

Hehe. I think I look incredibly silly without a part for updos, but for the same reason. :D Who knows, really?

I will part from the top of my forehead to about an inch back, and then the rest twists so it has no part. I need the part because of the way my bangs fall; that, and I look incredibly startled with all the hair pulled away from my face :)

I usually part with updos, because if I don't, it makes my head look flat. I've got no volume at the roots, so combing it straight back just makes it look like my hairs all glued to my head.

janaana
July 14th, 2008, 11:18 AM
I mostly pull it all back but if I'm taking time to do it nicely, I think it looks nice if I part the front two inches a little to the right and then comb the rest straight back to be put up

My hair has a natural center part. I usually just leave it since it will reappear anyway!

It really depends on the updo for me, but I almost always pull my hair to the back of my head like a ponytail and start from there. The only things I part for are english braids and low-buns.

I look terrible without a part, so it is always parted whether down or up. I have a high forehead too. :)

I don't part. I've tried to in the past, but I can never gather my hair and have it looking smooth when I have a part. I only get weird bumps at the back, so I gave up on it.

I don't part, but only because it never occurred to me to part. To part or not to part? This could change my life.

It depends on the updo. I look silly with a parted bun, but sometimes I part it on the side for a pony tail.

I go both ways. I find the part only works if the do is really low, if it's higher it will just start pulling hair straight back and eating the part.

If I don't part, I get weight distribution issues, and my eyebrows feel as though they are constantly being pulled straight up.

kwaniesiam
July 14th, 2008, 10:13 PM
It depends. Often a part makes my hair look really thin because its so wide, other times scalp can show through if its all swept back. For English braids I like a center part, buns and french braids its usually all combed back.

I voted for 'sometimes', although thinking about it now..., I probably should have voted for 'I don't part my hair when I wear it up'.
To be more precise - I mostly don't part my hair when I wear it up. :o

My hair falls naturally in a center part, but stays put pretty well when combed back smooth into a pony for an updo. Pre-LHC I wore a part most of the time (favouring an angled part to hide my white hairs), and wore mostly braids and my 'braid flip' do.
Post-LHC I wear no part for almost all my updos. I hadn't even thought about wearing a part for those updos, but now ... hmmmm.;)

I never wear any hairstyle without my side part. It is the way my hair falls naturally. Being without it feels strange and does not look like "me". I somehow like the asymmetrical look of them.

maybe it's from being around so many people who comb straight back (to the point of pulling their hairline out & backwards!!) i have a bit of an aversion to a non-parted up-do on me

July 16th, 2008, 06:22 AM
My hair has always parted naturally right down the center and the part has never responded to any form of comb, gel, or bribery. The most I have ever been able to change it was to get it a bit crooked, but even that is painful and my hair fights against it, so I just let my part be.

I rarely wear it up, but it depends on my mood, sometimes I part, sometimes not.

Sometimes I part my hair and sometimes I don't. I like to change it up a little for variety. Also sometimes I French or Dutch braid the top for a change of pace.

Sometimes I part, sometimes not. Most days I just comb my hair straight back but sometimes if I want a looser effect I'll do a small part.

I pretty much always have a part. I have a very stubborn center part, and a messy/uneven hairline. My hair rebels to partless styles, and they usually reappear within minutes (if not sooner). My sister hates parts, and never used to wear them, but it never worked for me. I'm still a little paranoid about what might happen if I keep a center part for all eternity and never 'spice it up'.

I always have a deep left part no matter what. I just don't look very nice without it. I have a long, very thin and narrow face and I need some volume around it to look my best.

I trained my hair out of parting a while ago and really haven't gone back since unless it's something where a part is required. If I put my hair up, however it's done, I don't use a part.

I don't part my hair whether it's up or down. I just let it do what it wants to do. I'm lazy and can't be bothered to part my hair. When I was little my mom always fussed at me that my hair wasn't parted correctly. It bugged the hell out of me to be fussed at all the time. So now I never part. She bugged me to make my bed and I don't do that now either :p

if it in an updo that sits low on the head i normally make a part- for it naturally tends to part if i do it low. If it is up high i do not have a part for even if i wanted to it is really hard to keep.

I tend to do a side part because i have a bit of a bald/thinning spot at the front of my midline part.

I chose sometimes yes and sometimes no, because I thought the new updos I have been learning at the LHC had to be done part-less. My hair naturally parts, and like NorthernDancer, I sometimes find brushing my hair straight back hurts after a while.
So it's okay to put my hair up parted! Yay!:)

It depends on where on my head I have the updo (typically a bun). For low buns, my hair gets parted because a part will eventually fall there anyway. For higher buns, it all just gets combed back.

Mostly I don't part in the traditional way.

But I do often part from ear to ear across my head and bubble up the top hair a bit.

I like a part on "low-dos" (like chignons and nape-knots). It gives it an asian/indian flair, especially with the right earrings.

Part for me, though that's because I part my hair automaticaly after washing and never comb it out after that.

At the moment I just take my hair down from it's braid in the morning and give it a quick ruffle before putting it up, no combing or fingercombing (then maybe smooth over the roots with a comb if my double crown is beign a particular pain in the arse)

I usually don't have a part because it's easier to put it up that way. I have bangs and I don't like them falling in my face (they're to my mouth) so I have to pin them back and depending on which way I pin them, there might be a part. And every once in awhile I'll have a part and and updo.

It depends on whether or not I have a headache, and how greasy my hair is. A part looks less greasy than the hair pulled straight back.

I don't actively part my hair, it is just parted so when I wear a low bun it stays like that. If I try to make a higher one I try to make the part go away, but usually my roots start hurting faster then.

I generally have a parting because I think my face is the wrong shape for having the hair swept back off it. It looks much better when it is draped like I get with a parting. Sometimes though, if I'm doing a French plait and then putting that up I have option but to have no parting.

Oh, and I haven't got the hang of doing updos without either:)

I put 'I part my hair' but that's not really true. It should say, my hair always has a part.
I can't get my hair to go straight back and be smooth, and it pretty much parts itself. I have a kinda strange hair line and a not very severe cowlick to one side, so it parts naturally on the right. Plus, the way my hair grows (where it's thick/thin, and medium/fine) it just refuses to go straight back and stay there, it will slip into a 'part' within an hour of putting it up.

snipYes, this is me too. I've tried a few times to train my hair to go straight back, but I don't have the patience for that kind of near-impossible undertaking. :p Once in a blue moon I'll try to pull my hair straight back, but it doesn't really like that and you can always sort of tell where my natural part is.

When I got blunt bangs, my part became in the middle and I've started to not like it as much when it's there, so I try to hide my part even when I wear my hair down. When it's up, the part is basically non existent.
