View Full Version : If you HAD to rock a short Hairstyle...

gogirlanime

So just for the sake of fun because we are all obviously here for longer (and / or healthier) hair.

If you HAD to rock a short hair style which would you chose? It must be a style above shoulder or shorter. And BE BRAVE don't just chose a shoulder-length bob just because it's the longest.

What would you most likely rock?

Me personally I've always wanted a pink mohawk but I'll probably never do it

I would do something similar to this too. I always like the short styles where it's shorter in the back and longer in the front!

I'd probably get an under/side cut, or buzz it all off. Since it would be short, I'd probably bleach it as well and dye it in funky colours!

I'm kind of in love with Quinn from Glee's new haircut. And blonde bobs in general.

I'm thinking something like this (http://67.199.101.76/files/falkner.elizabeth.jpg), probably with my natural color. Or with green or blue tips. I like the spiky look.

If I could keep some of it long it would be neat to do a long mohawk, maybe like hers (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-71-74MoWtLI/TuPHmlP4A8I/AAAAAAAAAQY/ScJeNY_4xHo/anya.jpg). Green or blue streaks or sides, maybe.

January 2nd, 2012, 01:15 PM
I'd go in phases - first I'd have a super-layered emo-goth look, then I'd shave one side, then I'd shave the other and have a super hot mohawk, and then I'd buzz it all off and have a headful of half-inch spikes. Oh, and I'd possibly squeeze a mullet (a'la Jared Leto) somewhere inbetween.

And of course I'd bleach the hell out of it and dye it a different crazy colour every week.

And now I'm all sad that I can't do any of this (well, I *can* of course, but I've sorta done it all at one point already anyway and who wants to repeat themselves?)

Either a buzz-cut, since I've always wanted to try that, or a chin-length bob, which I've had before and was super-cute. :D

Shaved - bald, shiny, squicky-shaved !

This!

I can't be bothered with styling short hair, plus I don't like how unstyled short hair looks on me because my hair looks like a puffy mushroom. Plus, it would be easy to keep that way by myself. And I have really shiny hair, so why not try to make my head really shiny, too?

I guess I'm just an all-or-nothing kind of person.

Probably Norah Jones haircut, I really want long hair, but at the same time I LOVE the style on her. It's so pretty! :D

There is a variant on the wedge that is sometimes called a pageboy, which is the short cut I prefer on myself. It works well with the thickness of my hair. I might also consider a chin length bob, as that can look good with my hair and face shape too.

I would probably go for some kind of angled bob with blunt bangs like i used to have, but more severely angled. I loved that haircut, but it was so high maintainance. The back would be really short and layered and the sides would be angled towards shoulder length inp the front.

Longish bangs and shorter hair at the back, maybe buzzed side(s). I'd probably try a more trendy kind of cut, just to see how it would look like.
Or a fauxhawk, always thought those looked nifty.

or this: Piper on Charmed with her season one short hair and bangs, boring i know, but i love the simple, blunt haircut, i did NOT pick cause its the longest, i picked it because it is pretty and easist to grow out...:D oh, and I LOVE Holly Marie Combs and Piper and Kimberly...lol i would want to play those roles on the show

I've done the angled bob that's jaw length in the front and like that. If this hypothetical requirement also comes with permission to dye crazy colors and keep my job, I'll go shorter and bleach and all kinds of crazy for a bit.

Quixii
January 2nd, 2012, 03:47 PM
I don't know if my hair would curl up when shorter - I hope so. If I cut my hair shorter, I'd wanna rock some cute curly mess up there. xD

For sure! If I was going to keep it short, I don't think I'd keep my natural colour very long. As much as I love it, I want to go a little crazy with bleach so I get super bright rainbow colours. At the least, I'd probably henna it so it looks like that first picture I posted. :)

Some kind of undercut bob. Then I'd have the option of having a semi-mohawk (Deathhawk in my case) or a bob. Somehow I'd want disconnected(not blended in) shoulderlength pieces at the front... Something like that :)

The only way I'd willingly do short hair is something drastic, like going bald from cancer treatment... and even there, I'd wait til my hair actually ALL fell out. The short hair styles I admire simply aren't something my hair can do. Too fine and too floaty.

Chin length inverted bob, or a choppy crop just a little longer than pixie

piffyanne
January 2nd, 2012, 04:27 PM
I'd probably go for the "middie" haircut and cheat the system a little bit. Yes, my hair would be nearly shoulder or just past that when straight, but the entire point of that length is VICTORY ROLLS à la Betty Grable (or another 40's actress, I'm far from picky about that!), so it would still look really short in the end! (That counts… Doesn't it?)

PraiseCheeses
January 2nd, 2012, 04:28 PM
Either something like the first picture that Quixii posted (if I were to embrace my curls) or a bob between jawbone and chin, which has worked well for my face shape in the past. But I'd never cut - I can get the same effect with a hat and multiple pins. :)

I would take my hair right down to 1 inch on the sides, 2 inches on the top and with fringe bangs long enough to spike/style - then dye the tips dark purple or dark blue! I would want to rock a super short goth/metal head look lol!

I used to have the Lisa Rinna hairstyle like this: http://www.beauty-and-the-bath.com/lisa-rinna-hairstyles.html (http://www.beauty-and-the-bath.com/lisa-rinna-hairstyles.html)

It looked great and I loved it the first time I had it cut. For some reason, my stylist couldn't get it to look the same when I went back for trims, so I gave up on it.

Cloelia
January 2nd, 2012, 05:38 PM
I'd go for the Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago bob. All sharp angles, very 1920's. It's a great look, but the constant need for styling makes it not something I'd really do. Besides, there's only one way to style it, even if that one way looks nice.

I currently have a pixie and while I hate the fact it's so short, I like how it looks most of the time. It's longish on top and choppy. A bit like Alice from Twilight.

However if I didn't care about damage I'd colour it all different colours like the internet rainbow hair legend Wisely Chosen. And then I'd grow shoulder length 'locs as the ones I've seen add SOOO much extra thickness. :D Rainbow dreadlocks would be awesome.

Something like Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland...everytime I see her hair like this, I have a momentary urge to cut mine!

I have no natural texture like her though, so I figure it'd look more like this on my hair, which is equally lovely IMO.

I would go for short at the back and sides and slightly longer on top with long bangs at the front... and by short I mean clipped to #2 or so, but the top would be probably 2" long, so long enough not to spike straight up, and the bangs would be fairly long...

Alas, this would be impossible to achieve on me right now because I have bangs that are too short lol!

I'd definitely go for something beautiful and feminine - like this, for example:

http://www.hairfinder.com/hairstyles7/diadema1.htm

(And I agree with many, what I'd love about short hair would be the freedom to dye and/or bleach to my heart's content )

I'm surprised at how many people would just flat out do a buzz cut out of all the hairstyles from shoulder to shorter, brave souls you are O__O
I'm surprised, too; but also, I must say I don't really agree with the implication that it's "brave" to cut your hair really, really short (or bald), and "not brave" to not want to do that... Why would I want a haircut I don't find esthetically pleasing (like most asymmetrical cuts, not to mention a buzz cut?) And I'm especially surprised (and a bit sad) to meet such on a long hair forum (in many posts in this thread, not just this one)...

Piyo

Probably what I've had before: left side shaved, right side chin length bangs, spiked up at the back. Bleached the shaved patch and dyed it different colours every week.

WaitingSoLong
January 5th, 2012, 10:44 AM
I'd shave it bald. I've always wanted to.

Then when it got longer I would dye it auburn again. I loved my hair that color. It matches my eyes. I'd probably rock a pixie of some sort (auburn) until I got brave enough again to go through the "tween" stages of growing it back long.

Interesting thread.

ETA: Now that I have read all the replies I will add that I have had my hair super short before, basically buzzed in back with long bangs in front, long enough to tuck behind my ears. I took a photo of a model in and had the stylist do this back in 1998. The stylist did a great job and asked me several times if I was sure I wanted it that short. Anyway, I got a lot of negative feedback from it, and ended up hating it when I discovered 1. Bed head and 2. cowlicks I never knew I had. My hair has to be BSL+ before it will even try to lay straight. I think I would have my hair probably BSL if it would only behave at that length. It is the cowlicks and nape waves that have kept me from shaving my head all these years.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u63/evie_066/Siennamillershorthair.jpg

I had this cut, or something like it before

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u63/evie_066/recentlength.jpg

and when I get tired of henndigo, I will go for this again to grow out my natural blonde....:D

I'd go with a shoulder-length cut... with side bangs!

like this one! (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1125/1093378257_96f865b8c8.jpg)

or this one! (http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/42.jpg)

or this one (http://www.marieclaire.com/cm/marieclaire/images/l9/MCX1207FA101038-s2.jpg)

It'd be wash-and-go for my wavy hair (shorter than shoulder-length would probably mean more styling time), and I could straighten it if I chose. And, I'd get chunky platinum blonde highlights. :)

I'd say the way I have it now, buzzed to about a half an inch. I like it very much.

Ooo! Ooooo! If my hair starts falling out from alopecia again, I am gonna shave it into a Mohawk and dye it green!

Awww I would do a wicked cute pixie! Like the girl from Harry Potter has now! Only my nose is on the long side and it requires long hair as a balance! Lol I went to chin length a couple years ago and it did not work with my volume n features o_0

I'd shave it off. I think it would be cool to grow it all from scratch with no trims, just to see how it works out.

The most flattering cut on me is ear length with long layers, it's wash and go and is comfortable for me but I'm not really into comfortable right now. :D

A chin length bob or a longish pixie, kind of like Keira Knightley used to have, I had mine cut like that a couple of years ago and it looked nice.

I'd do 3 or 4 inch bleach blonde curls. Like if orphan Annie had a lovechild with Marilyn Monroe. Take the color and the curls. That would be perfect :)

The only haircut I've never had is a mohawk. I could also go for Anya Ayoung-Chee's version; seeing her sometimes makes me want to shave half of my hair off :)

I'd do a pixie-cut, everyone tells me I'd look good with one, and I think they're very cute. Much like one of these:

Buzz it off. I've always told people that my hair either needs to be long enough to be low-maintenance or short enough to be no-maintenance. If I have to do ANYTHING to it in the morning for it to look decent, I'm not happy. long hair can be a little higher maintenance because it has the added bonus of being pretty and not needing to be cut to maintained. If I buzzed it I'd have to re-buzz it every few months. Which would suck.

I would do Yulia's cut from the earlier t.A.T.u. days.

Everytime I saw her when I was younger I would be so tempted. I still get tempted from time to time, but my urge to grow my hair long wins out :)

I'd do a layered, shoulder-skimming kinda bob (and I'd style it just like this):

http://justjared.buzznet.com/photo-gallery/244661/rachel-weisz-photoshoot04/

After looking at so many gorgeous pictures of Rachel Weisz' hair, I'm getting extremely tempted to take 3-4 inches of mine and add more layers..

I guess my definition of a bob is very limited. I thought it had to be all one length, basically a "bowl cut" but at different lengths if desired. Seems the word "bob" is used of any short (above shoulders) style except a pixie, and then I have seen "pixies" that look like bobs.

I'm so confused.

A bob doesn't need to be all one length, but the hemline should be blunt. An A-line bob is shorter in the back than it is in the front but the hemline is even so it's still a bob. You can also have whatever fringe you want and it's still a bob. If it has layers it's called a shag.

I define a pixie as anything cut above the ears but I think "pixie" is a blanket term and people have different definitions for it.

If those are pixies, then I have had one. I thought pixies had to have short fringe as well. It wasn't called a pixie when i had it. At least I had never heard the term pixie then except a pixie stick you eat.

I guess my definitions were very narrow! Some of the bob photos linked in this thread seem layered to me. When I think bob, I think Thelma off Scooby-Doo LOL.

I'd have the one where you take your ponytail and hack it off just above the elastic with a hunting knife, so the zombies won't have it to grab. Is there a name for that?

Chin length bob with blunt straight across bangs and blonde highlights.

Pixie cuts and super short cuts don't look that great on me but longer bobs(chin, neck length) do.

I still would go for a chin length bob, with no layers whatsoever. I just like that cut :) In my teens I really wanted that cut, but my hairstylist said no, because my hair was so thick and only thinning it out would make it work.

A regular unlayered chin length bob is the hardest hairstyle to cut, apparently, because it is unforgiving of mistakes... I think some stylists will do anything to get out of having to work on it!

I love short hair and have been trying to keep my hair like this (http://i.fanpix.net/images/orig/1/5/153jnbwqz99dj3bd.jpg) for the last 20yrs or so. I hate going to the salon every month so I usually end up with an above collar layered bob.

Just decided last month to try long hair.

I'd either go down the Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn or Nicole Kidman route! (from their short hair days) :)
