I have my oily scalp problems for years, and nothing seems to help. I S&C, and after it dries, the scalp stuff appears. (I've also tried CO, WO, CWC, and the like. Still appears.)
Suggestions?

Well, from what I've read on the WO thread and the CO thread, if your getting 'gunk' it means your scalp is detoxing from the chemicals you use in your products... If that makes any sense. Some people wash their hair more because of it, others choose to detox fully and not use any more hair products. You ca try going 'no poo' and using Basking Soda and ACV.

Are you getting conditioner actually on your scalp?
I've learned to avoid it if I can, my scalp apparently hates conditioner.

Delila:No.

I have read that if you use jojoba oil for a scalp massage, it can moisturize your scalp and reduce sebum production, eventually resulting in a less oily scalp.

I also have this problem since teenage. A couple of stylists told me that my scalp is dry and hence it produces more sebum to compensate, one suggested to use acv rinse on scalp every time I shampoo, but I haven't been able to get rid of oiliness. I will keep an eye on this thread.

I find ACV very drying to my scalp. I would really try Jojoba Oil. It is very close to Sebum and won't clog your pores, and will make your scalp think it is oily enough so that it doesn't over produce oil.

I find that massaging the scalp thoroughly before and during washing helps a lot. Also, since I stopped using *any* commercial products my scalp has been a lot calmer. On the rare occasions I shampoo my head, my scalp is itchier for a few days after.
It took me years of using a mostly CO routine and stretching washes before my scalp stopped being oily. So also, be patient with one routine. Every time I've changed my routine my scalp acts up a little for a while.
If you try BS and vinegar, you can use any vinegar, it doesn't matter. If you use it frequently, use a dilute solution of baking soda to minimize damage to your hair. I recommend no more than a tsp of baking soda per cup of water.

It will be a while until I can actually get some Jojoba. it seems that the ingredients I DO put into my scalp have some kind of reaction.
