I opened up a paypal account so I could donate to LHC/TBB. Does anyone want to join me in donating?
I want to say thank you to Stephanie for creating this wonderful internet home.

I could not agree more. I'm a big fan of assisting the sites I
belong to, especially if I love them. :heartbeat

When the site was put up, that is one of the first things looked
for, the donation button.

I can't possibly put into words how much I've loved this site over
the years, how many friends I've found and all the trials and tribulations
of my own life woven into such a site. Helping to keep such a site going
is just a given, at least for me.

Not convinced yet? 25.00 works out to six pennies a day. Six measly pennies.

:twocents::twocents::twocents:

I'm not rich, but I look at it this way, even a 25.00 donation works out
to only 2.08 per month. There are very few folks who can account for every
penny of their world. I can't imagine missing such a small figure, when I
have the pleasure of such a great place.

Two bucks and eight pennies for all this, plus cheese?
Can't beat it. :cheese:

Also, for those trying to squeeze budgets, completely understandable.
You don't have to send it all at once. Heck, even a couple bucks a month
will go through Paypal.

Just as soon as I return from my three week school trip (Which I have to save every penny fore) I'm going to donate!

I have to disagree with this. No, not all of us can afford to donate. Yes, some of us are accounting for every penny in our world. I get money VERY rarely. I'm unemployed and any money that does come into my hands is always a gift from a family member. No, I cant afford to donate 25 dollars and I find it rather insulting that it is assumed that all of us can afford to do so. And those of us who cannot afford to donate are made to feel like selfish freeloaders. Excuse me but this is not the case. You should not be made to feel guilty for not donating.

Whoah, hold up, errrrt, put on the brakes on that one for certain.

Nowhere in my post does it state, mention or even imply that
those who do not donate are not worthy.

While I'm often very easy going, I'll disagree right back at your
post. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it, I was speaking in
terms of my donation and my experience. I was pointing
out how my return for my donation is realized.

You will note that I said I am a big fan of donating, it is a given
for me.

As you have assumed my post was to make those who cannot or do not
donate feel guilty, I'll return the favor of assumption and imagine you
either do not know me well or you are reading my post in the wrong
flavor, or both.

Donating is not and never has been a requirement of this site. I am
not an owner, nor a moderator, but a proud member who has been
here on and off for years. I won't apologize for supporting it or
encouraging those who can, to do so. If you cannot, you cannot.

I refer you to this part of your previous post:

No "For those of you who are squeezing budgets, no worries. We understand." Instead we're hearing "Give us a few dollars anyway, just space it out more!" 25$ is still 25$ whether its expected in one lump or spread over 12 months. It's still 25$ alot of us do not have.

I did not state that your intention was to guilt those of us who cannot donate. Instead I stated that this is the effect that you and others have managed to create.

"Whats a few dollars?" Well in my family the 25$ you suggested all LHCers could afford to donate is the difference between my mother and I getting our medication or not.

Also I don't know about anyone else but I would be alot more comfortable if I knew where my money was going if I had it to donate. I want to know how much this forum costs Steph per month to run, how much the server costs, etc etc. Would you normally throw money you can ill afford at something where you don't even know where it's going?

Also... charitable donations are far more impressive when the person who makes them does not expect some kind of acknowledgement for it afterwards. It makes it appear that you have donated to get credit, not because you actually wanted to help. KWIM?

Speaking as a Moderator

Stephanie appreciates all of the financial support people give. She also greatly appreciates the positive interactions the members offer to the site. Both are very valuable to her.

No one should feel guilty for not donating. Those who can and do donate need to know it is much appreciated.

Cheese anyone? :cheese:

Mod hat on, but slightly askew: If the topic of donation (or finances) puts a knot in your knickers and you know that, in a thread entitled "Let's Donate", it is likely or even probable that donation will be encouraged, then perhaps it is best to avoid those threads to lower stress-levels and avoid animosity between members. If one doesn't like the topic, there are plenty of others here, feel free to choose another topic instead of making assumptions and barbed replies.

Lisa, my apologies. My problem is not that anyone is donating, or that people are encouraged to donate. Instead I am offended by the notion that everyone on this board can afford to donate. It's simply not true. That is all.

Teach, if you are still on, you are going to love these!

The other day I was in the mall, when I walked by the "No way
I could wear those" shoes. When I saw these, I just died laughing,
thinking of your sig shoes!

Are these perfect, or what?

my gosh, even the Jessica Simpson line was a small sampling of

Maybe I've forgotten what it's like to sacrifice comfort in the name
of fashion. LOL.

Said she who wears slipper shoes after swearing she would never
be caught dead in 'em. :D

Well I'll be darned! I was going to show you the BB image coding to insert the picture like below, but when I tried to use a coding box such as this:

Code would go here showing code only, but not the picture. It decided not to work as it should, and included the picture instead of showing the coding.

Well, let me try it long hand, but keep in mind that there are no spaces in the following code:

[ img ]http://www.wuvie.net/tbshoe.jpg [ /img ]

Once the above code is inserted (minus spacing) you see this:

http://www.wuvie.net/tbshoe.jpg

PS. I donated the same night I joined (using a different email address than what I have listed in my profile). Which was shortly before the crash. I thought I jinxed this place!

There are other ways to donate besides cash donations. We can support the site by clicking on ads, for one thing. Do I hate ads? Yes! Do I normally have Adblock on for most sites so that I don't have to see them? Yes! But do we need the ad revenue to keep LHC up and running? Also yes! :)

Hello Greek_lady,

I'm not sure if I have a pop up or ad blocker (son does my
computer work) but is there a way to override the blockers
to allow them for this site only?

I use Firefox, if that helps.

Many thanks, Karen Marie

I don't have a lot of money, plus i have no way of actually putting any money in my paypal account (so annoying  it's not possible without a creditcard), so I can't donate.

But I do click the ads sometimes :)

Hi Accolady!

Ok, I checked with a Firefox browser (newest updated version). The last-but-one menu, up top, should be "Tools" (right beside "Help" menu). When you open that, the last option should be "Options". In there there should be the third icon from the left called "Content". If you click on "content", the first box (probably ticked already) is the one blocking the popups.
I wouldn't advise to un-tick that entirely, but just use the button to the right that should say "Exceptions". When "Exceptions" opens, you need to copy+paste the url of the LHC forum and press the button saying "allow exceptions" so as to create an exception and allow pop-ups, only for this site.

Pls bear in mind that the actual wording in English may be a variant of the word in brackets that I have used, as I am using a Greek firefox.

I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone by my post. Pegs, I'm sorry if you were offended by what I wrote. I was just asking if anyone wanted to join me in donating. I know what it's like to not have money for extras. But my husband and I got a big tax return, and I wanted to make a donation to LHC.
Again, sorry you were offended.

Fear not, Aqua, a thread to encourage members to contribute
is never a bad thing. I look at it like a cheese thread. If you
like cheese and want to join the cheese party, let's do it.

:cheese:

Like DB mentioned, it need not be funds, it can be clicking on
the ads, or even contributing by way of positive, constructive
posts, welcoming others, etc.

As Dr. Phil would say, are you contributing, or contaminating?

:)

You're very welcome, Accolady. HTML coding is something I haven't the slightest idea about, but I'm okay with the basics of BB coding.

Now if only I could figure out why the coding box didn't work as it should have. Ah well, at least I previewed the post first. :)
