just wondering what supplements people take/have taken, and what you've found to be the most effective.
i'm currently taking sea kelp, cod liver oil and 'lustrious hair' vitimin,
i've been taking the sea kelp for some time, but the cod liver oil and the other one are fairly recent things. Is it ok to take all of these at the same time, and is there anything else that anyone recommends?
-thank you

I take a multi vitamin , codliver oil, Ginko Biloba a womens health vit and msm When i remember. I did break out in some acne and sort of gave up taking them religiuosly. I now take them when i remember. Im not sure if the acne is due to co washing or the suppliments.
I didnt notice great growth rates no more than usual really but i did notice that when i traveled abroad to spain ( i live in cloudy london) that my hair trippled in growth the week i was away. Now wether it was due to extra vitamin d from the sun or more exercise i am unsure
I would love t know of anyone else experience that has increased growth/ thickness

I take Hair, Skin & Nails by Spring... something. I can't think of the name, I'll post it when I get home. Be careful what you take, as it can be easy to "over do" it and yes, you can OD off of supplements.
I've been taking mine for a couple months and I'm not sure if I'm just going through a growth spurt or they really work for me, but I'm satisfied. :) it takes a bit for supplements to settle into your system and begin working their magic so be consistent, be patient, and enjoy the journey!
Remember to drink lots of water (I better practice what I preach, eh?? :)) and watch your eating habits, the more healthy (and raw) you're eating, the more your skin and hair will thank you. :)
Good luck, happy growing, and experiment! :) that's the best part of this journey! :)

Bna repunzel, I understand it can be easy to take to many. Do you think some could stop the benefits of ohthers? What would you suggest being best just hair skin and nail ones?

I added MSM, biotin, and rooibos extract to my multi. I did not have much hair growth (length) since joining in July, but it is slightly thicker. I decided not to repurchase the biotin and rooibos, but I keep the MSM for my skin. I also started juicing many vegetables, and feel that i don't need my multi everyday when juicing. I'd rather get my vitamins from whole, nutritious foods, when possible.

The hair, skin, and nails supplements often call for 2-3 times daily dosage. My body personally does NOT appreciate it when I take all my vitamins at once and let's me know. (Headache, upset tummy, whathaveyou, even if I take them with food)
So. I either take my hair skin and nails
Or
My multi vitamin
Or
Vit. D and beta carotene together
I never mix them, but that's just me.

I don't know the exact science behind it but timing of taking your supplements is important as well. I usually only take 2 hair skin and nails vitamins, once in the morning and once right before bed. A lot of LHCers time their supplement-taking out as well.
Something about water retention while your body is awake/resting. I'll have to find the page...

I find that biotin, MSM and silica help the most for me. I take these:
-Biotin 2,000mcg daily (important building block)
-MSM 2x 1,000mg daily (reduces shedding)
-L-arginine 6 grams daily (circulation and weight training)
-Horsetail 500mg daily (for silica, for strenght)
-Flaxseed oil (for shine and moisture)
-Inositol (important for hair and your body is depleted of it with too much caffeine... I'm a barista, nuff said lol)
-Multivitamin (for general nutrition)
I take the biotin, one MSM, 3 grams of arginine and the inositol at night around the same time I put in my M-T-G oil mixture so my hair is prepped for growth all night long.

i took biotin for about a year and 1/2, but started having extreme skin issues so i switched to silica (horsetail). i know for a fact that they both make my nails a lot stronger, so i hope they're doing something for my hair as well!
i also take a multivitamin daily, as well as an iron supplement as i'm borderline anemic, and i take an omega 3 supplement as well, which i highly reccomend just for general health, but for hair, skin, and nails as well.
i've been thinking about talking diatomaceous earth (DE), and if i do i;d stop the silica, as DE is mostly just silica as it is.
i DO believe i've seen an improvement in the quality of my hair, and MAYBE in the quantity (growth rate) as well. maybe

I deem cod liver oil as an essential supplement for optimal healthy hair.
I will soon be writing about super foods for growing healthy and strong hair, and fish (oily) is one of those foods!
I generally prefer to rely on whole food than supplements for my intake of micronutrients. Having said that, certain micro-nutrients which are great for hair, such as vitamin C, are difficult to be obtained in optimal doses from food alone, so supplements are the way to go for the icing on the cake.
All the best.

I take a TON of vitamins for various health issues but I've made sure I'm not OD'ing on any of them.
For general health: I take GNC women's ultra mega active multivitamin.
For migraines (recommended by my neurologist): 1 fish oil capsule, 600mg of Magnesium, 600mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid, and I think 400 or 500mg of B2.
For iron deficiency: 325mg Ferrous Sulfate twice a day along with a 500mg Vitamin C supplement for better iron absorption.
For PCOS: I JUST started D-chiro-inositol today but it's supposed to be great for insulin resistance. And since I can't tolerate Metformin, I'm hoping for the best.
For hair: 1000mg MSM twice a day. My multivitamin also has 300mcg of Biotin in it which is nice. When I tried adding more Biotin I broke out in cystic acne. It seems my body only likes that small amount. The MSM has also cleared my skin up A LOT. I also take silica a few times a week when I remember but I can't remember the doseage. It's from the Vitamin Shoppe.
I started taking ALL of my vitamins on a daily basis a little over a month ago. Since then I've noticed that I have more energy, less severe migraines, regular digestion, less hair shedding, stronger finger nails, and I think a faster hair growth rate (I don't measure my hair so I can't say for sure, but it sure seems like it's grown a lot since my last trim).
Honestly though, if I didn't have a bunch of medical problems that made my hair very thin, I would only be taking my daily multivitamin plus the ones for my migraines. A good vitamin should have everything you need for healthy hair and nails unless if you have a terrible diet.
But I don't think what you're taking is anything to be worried about in terms of overdosing.
Hope that helps! :blossom:
