I've been obsessing with how my parting looks recently.
After a horrible nightmare of me going bald by some misfortunate chance I saw a photo of my head taken from above and instead of a parting there was a wide desert. It was ... hideous and frightening at the same time. My nightmare tuning into reality?! I'm changing it on every wash cycle, left, right, middle but right at the center of my head it seems to do its own thing and I don't know if it is normal or I'm really having a problem.

This is how it looks. The pictures are taken on freshly washed and air-dried hair.
Please tell me what you think and I'd be grateful if you can post some photos of your own crown areas for me to compare.

I AM REALLY AFRAID OF THE EXACT SAME THING. My hair is baby fine and naturally light, so I feel like I can see scalp all the time :( makes me cry sometimes.
I'll take a picture when I get home from work (darn you, LHC!) but to me, your part looks healthy, girl!

I felt weird taking pictures like this lol. For the record, though, I've had dreams about getting a bald spot and stuff before, so that's normal.

Left is in harsh lighting, right is in indirect lighting. I didn't realize that it was a curved shape until now, either. :)

I have dreams of going bald as well- because of the constant heaviness of updos... I'd post a pic, but camera is broken and hair is wet and up in a t-shirt (I don't use towels).

Thank you a lot for the support and photos, girls.
I come to think the parting might look naturally larger if the hair in the very roots is lighter shade or more transparent than the bulk.
Zesty, your parting is to-die-for :P very smooth and pretty. I've always envied the F/iii types.

I would never, never, never publish a photo of my part on the internet because I'm deeply ashamed of my hair loss, but let me tell you - my part is a LOT more scalpy than yours, especially around the hairline. I can see shiny scalp through my hairline when I'm facing the mirror straight-on. It genuinely breaks my heart and is a cause of a lot of shame and grief for me.

And, yes, I have attempted to have my hair loss investigated, and have encountered many dismissive doctors. Removing my implanon has slowed shedding a great deal, but I'm not convinced I see a difference in my scalpy part and hairline.

My part splits off at the crown like a Y. I don't have a camera around or I'd post a pic.

I don't know how to post a picture here, but I worry about my part being too thin as well. I feel like the top of my head is balding compared to the nape. I am really self conscious about it, too. I don't know what is normal, but I feel like mine is worse than the pictures that have already been posted.

I'm kind of relieved to know that so many of you also worry about this kind of stuff. I don't have a picture, but my part does the Y thing and also tends to run down the back a bit (hair cleavage) because I have cowlicks. I also have recently started to worry about maybe getting thin spots because of updos and the weight of my hair, so I'm always looking to see if my hairline looks thinner--mind you, I don't remember what it looked like "before" and have nothing to compare it to, so it's pretty much an exercise in futility and paranoia. Anyway, I think your part looks fine!

Phew! I'm so glad I'm not the only who worries about this! I always feel self concious about my part in the back, but reading your comments leads me to believe it may indeed just be a cowlick or something. Ahh, I feel so much better now. :D

I've been also kind of upset recently about seeing my part in the mirror at my apartment bathroom. I only recently noticed that I can see my scalp, right where my hair parts, all the way to the top of my head!!! Never noticed it before but now that I have, I look at it everytime I see myself in the mirror.... Although, inho it has a lot to do with how the lights are positioned in your bathroom. At my parent's house it doesn't look as bad because the lights are yellow and are straight on. At my apartment thought the light is awful white and is pretty high up, so it shines right onto the top of my head.. so try and see your part in different places and see if it still scares you. It might just be the lights after all!
My hair is up in a towel (holding henna).. so I'll take a pic of mine and post it as soon as im done! :)

I'm sorry to read that so many people are worried about the same issue. Maybe those of you who don't shed excessively can relax and forget about it. My hair's been falling out with increased rate since September because of stress and that is probably the main reason why I was panicking. I realize I've been ignoring it way too long.
I should report that the cassia treatment I did several days ago increased the fullness in my roots and now my parting is not bothering me severely. I decided to masque the area with a mohawk-like dutch braid until my shed cease. Not that it would visible matter (at least I hope so) but at least I would feel more comfortable.

I've always noticed my natural part is ridiculously straight. I like my part a lot. Though, in flash photography my roots get so bright it looks like there is no hair there. I don't have a picture like that on hand but I do have one in natural light.
