How many people here pin the sides of their updos?

I use kirby grips (http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/d/da/180px-Bobby_pin.jpg) (I'm sure everyone here knows them but I've linked because I've heard lots of different names) to pin my updos just behind my ears. I find that the hair there sags a lot, which makes the style feel loose, and also that often, my hair just won't stay up without those bits pinned. I have no idea why.

So - do you or don't you?

Also, do kirby grips damage the hair?

Funny, I totally expected something else for Kirby grips--those are Bobby Pins around here :)

I don't know if you can use them more cautiously than me; I always get hairs ripped out when I try those. Little claw clips are the only things I've gotten to not tear; those snap barrettes that you flip always get my hair stuck in the fold --http://www.goody.com/Products/Accessories/Barrettes/Sport/Sport.aspx

I use click clacks to clip the sides. I have shorter terminal hair there and it stays in place that way :)

Click clacks? Are they like sleeper clips (http://www.evans.co.uk/wcsstore/Evans/images/catalog/22R03DBLK_normal.jpg)?

I don't use the kirby grips/bobby pins since I discovered that a hair stick or fork could secure my up-do. when I used them, I had to remove them carefully to keep them from snagging a strand or 2. I have short terminal length hairs at my hairline. If I've washed within a day, these loose hairs will form a wild halo which I just let happen.

I simply MUST use something to pin back the bits over my ears. They stick out all crazy like. I use snap clips, also referred to as click clacks and sleeper clips. I love those little suckers! I've never had a problem with them pulling hair, either. Wonderful invention are they!
