Hi Ladies i have recently started to grow my hair again. My goal is waist length from shoulder length.

I would appreciate any before and after pics and how long it has taken you to ( be on your way to ) achieve your goal.

Any pictures in between would be great also so i can see how long I have to achieve my goal :):p

Let's see what I can dig up for you:
Oct 2005
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/spidermom/2005.jpg
Summer 2010
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/spidermom/summerlength.jpg

My hair is still about the same length. I'm having trouble with ends drying out and splitting, so I've been cutting them. In fact, all through my growing journey, I've had regular small trims and a few large trims (as much as 7 inches).

Depending on how much you trim, I'd estimate that shoulder to waist should take 2-4 years. It sounds like a long time when you're looking forward, but when you look back, it won't seem like very long at all. Try to enjoy your hair at all lengths.

My first picture here, from July 2010. My hair is about hip length here.
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=5879&pictureid=76917

This summer, with braidwaves. I was fairly close to tailbone there, but I needed to get rid of some nasty ends, with the last remaining dye damage, so that is why I had not gained all that much length between those two pictures.

The latest length picture, from early this month. I had achieved tailbone length here!:D

Everyones hair grows at different speeds. I grew my hair from above shoulder to tb in just a little over 4 years. My cousin started between shoulder and apl, growing for a little over 4 years and she's at waist now.
Growth speeds are different according to your lifestyle and environment as well. For example, taking supplements, medications, illnesses, stresses, eating habits, water intake, shedding seasons, growth spurts, growth stalls, winter/summer can all contribute to different growth speeds. :)

Its easy to calculate once you're aware of your growth speed and lifestyle/environmental surroundings.
Sorry this isn't before and after pics. I don't have any "befores" since I just joined at waist/hip but I hope you get what you're looking for.
Good luck and happy growing!! :)

I don't have any photos to offer because I used to not own a camera. And by the time I joined my first hair board, my hair was already at just shy of classic length. Most of my hair growth had already occurred.

It's just a game of patience. Just be patient, mostly let it be, and one day you'll take your hair down and realize a surprise. Kind of like a nice bonus Christmas present.

wow ladies you have some amazing hair!

Imvery jelous, I cant wait to become that length! it feels like forever as i seem to be sitting watching the strands grow! Im trying very hard to just tie it up and leave it but i seem to be loosing alot when I wash. I tghink this is due to having it up. I mostly do very loose frnech braids but still i loose more up than down.

I do not use any heat and only co wash ( for (only for the past 5 mpnths) which is lovely for my hair. I did use shampoo once in this time but it ruined my hair as it turned into straw!

Heidi w your hair looks fantastic! you must use alot of shampoo and conditioner?

I wish i could wake up with long hair... I will get there one day but at the moment it feels like forever

It's natural to lose up to 100 hairs per day, and if you leave your hair up a lot, then wash it, you're going to see more than one day worth of natural shed. Try not to fret. Old hairs shed out, then you grow in lovely new hairs that have 0 damage. Take care of them; they'll be your long hairs some day.

March 2011 to December 2011:
My head is bent back a lot in the first photo to make my hair look longer for the photo. The shortest layer is chin length.

In the second photo, my shortest layer is shoulder length.

I haven't even been here a full year but I think I've made great progress. I trimmed an inch off the bottom layer along the way too, so good growth and keepng up with damage.

Great point! I was just thinking that I shed so much more now that I'm being careful with my hair than when I was abusing it. I was trying to figure out why and that is probably the reason: I wear my hair up much of the time now.

Madora and Coffinhert unfortunatly i cannot see your pictures. I cant seem to look at albums it says i do not have permission :-(

I didnt even concider that having my hair up i would notice more when washing but now it seems obvious.

Sweetic your hair growth is amazing and i wish i could grow that fast! I have had a very short pixie cut before and grown to bsl without even noticing, but since having a bob ( like victoria beckham) it seems like its taken forever to get to shoulder length. I know i need to just leave it but i cant help studying how much iv grown in a day! it drives me crazy lol

I don't have before and after pics, but growth varies a TON. I've gone from shoulders to waist in about a year.

It's because they're linked from LHC albums. Assuming they're not private, you'll be able to see them when you reach 25 posts. :) More info here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=68519).

I don't have any pics to help you put but I can tell you that when I got my last cut it was to exactly shoulder. It took about 1 year and 10 months to reach waist through sulfate free shampoo, very moisturizing conditioner that was also used as a leave in and constant iPods. Good luck with the grow!

Maelyssa-what are iPods in the context of hair? I am very excited that you had your hair grow that fast-I'm kind of hoping that mine does like yours.

Sorry, no pics, but it's taken me about 3 1/2 years to grow from shoulder to waist. I did a lot of trimming last year (maybe 4" total) because I was slowly working out damage and I wanted my hem to remain looking nice.

This is a nice place to spend the time, and it's good inspiration when you have moments of weakness or the scissors start calling your name.

Blazingheart apologies Im so used to saying ladies :-) I wish my hair could grow that fast i have been measuring monthly and it seems to grow the average of half an inch per month. Do you recall your monthly growth and did you have any trims in that year?

Thanks pepperminttea for that information I need to start posting a tad more! I thought my computor didnt like me ;-)

akuamoonmaui thank you for your input in this, I cant wait to be waist length... I am at the moment contenplating whether to use a colour b4 product on my hiar which takes out any dye and get it back to my natural colour. It claims there is no damage as it does not contain any bleeching but i am dubious to try....

Well I have the slowest growing hair ever, mind you Ive trimmed a lot but from cropped back to just past waist is not too bad! Must say some very inspirational photos, mine alas doesnt grow particularly fast, but it grows. Patience is a must even though its lovely to see photos and peoples progress, remember we are all different but just to give you an idea of how my hair has grown in the last 6 years here you go;
from the beginning December 2005 http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l283/joanna_eglin/CIMG0009-2.jpg and one of my first LHC photos august 2007http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l283/joanna_eglin/CIMG0001-1.jpgreaching apl 2008
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l283/joanna_eglin/CIMG0004-3.jpgand reaching BSL 2009http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l283/joanna_eglin/DSCF1175.jpg
reaching waist after many trims in 2010
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l283/joanna_eglin/length-1.jpg
and now
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l283/joanna_eglin/DSCF8372.jpg

its been a long road and im still nowhere near where i want to be, my advice is patience and dont be afraid to trim off what you need to and treat it well. Theres a lot better examples but hope this helps!

Let's see what I can dig up. I haven't done a length shot in a long time.

Here it is in March of 2009. Sorry about the bad picture, it is a vacation shot. I had my hair trimmed right before I left with the intention of growing it out when I got back. You can see it is heavily layered, highlighted and quite short.

http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4096/4897975346_1469714605.jpg

Here I am in June of 2011. The layers were mostly gone here, it is now hennaed. So this is henna over my blackish-brown hair that had nature given streaks of white in it. It is coming along and looks much healthier and happier now since I found LHC.
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5309/5882585705_9cf671daf2.jpg

It is still pretty close to this length since I have had a trim or two this year but I am slowly gaining length and getting rid of those old layers. You all will have to wait for my haircut anniversary thread in March to see a more updated shot!

Sorry the first two are before I joined LHC and started taking pictures of the back of my head :D I'm currently at just past BSL. My growth rate is about a 1/2" per month so just be patient you'll get there,oh and I wear my hair up 99% of the time to protect the ends from damage. I cut my hair to shoulder length in June 2010 and I am at waist length right now, probably as of November. So it took me about a year and a half. I don't trim very frequently at all, maybe twice during that time and only an inch or half an inch.

This was my journey - from really short pixie in 2002 to BSL+ in 2005. I had a lot of cuts/trims in between that time.

Since 2005, I have had a mohawk and mostly pixie cuts. I am currently at shoulder and my goal is waist.

Like people have already said, it really depends on how much your hair grows a month and how often you cut/trim it. I am of the opinion that I would rather have healthy long hair, than damaged long hair, so I would rather sacrifice length. For me, if it takes longer to reach my goal because it, that's OK because I want it to look healthy, not just long.

Good luck on your journey! :)

Last picture taken, horrible damage, uneven and just AWFUL! I died it black right after. About shoulder blade hair. I joined LHC when my hair was BSL but didn't really take pictures (sorry).

This is after 4 and 5 months of no trims at all
