This is probably addressed elsewhere, and I'm sorry for asking again here, but I just can't seem to find any good information on it. What do you all use for a shower comb (if you use one) like to distribute conditioner easily through your hair in the shower? I don't want to use plastic because it has seams that can catch and rip the hair. But natural materials like wood and horn don't do well with water.
What's your advice?

I never used them when I was actually in the shower, I used them to detangle - but I wouldn't worry about plastic. Not all plastic combs have seams, really.

I use a Tangle Teezer to distribute conditioner. I usually lose too much hair when I use a comb for that.

I use a seamless plastic comb. Works great!

like Miss Catrina, i use mine outside of the shower as a regular comb to detangle. its plastic, but has no seams. i imagine if i had thick curly hair i might want to use it in the shower to help distribute conditioner and detangle at the same time. as for my shower comb, i love that its got a little hook thingy at the end so i can just hang it wherever :)

I actually use a Tangle Teezer! It is plastic, but it has never so much as snagged my hair (unlike combs which I only used once or twice in the shower, because they were doing more harm than good). It also distributes the conditioner much better than a comb, so my hair is more slippery and moisturized. It is the only thing I would dare use on wet hair. :)

I use a conair paddle brush. I admit I'm not completely sold on the idea that plastic is bad...my hair seems to be OK with it and it's easier for me to get tangles out with a brush instead of a comb.

When I first joined LHC, I bought a shower comb to detangle while conditioning in the shower. Now I just use my fingers to detangle and use no combs or brushes, except to smooth (with brush) for buns. :D

I don't think a good quality plastic seamless comb would be bad for your hair. I think it would be good if used properly.

I use a wide tooth plastic comb and i've never noticed any damage! I couldn't imagine washing my hair without combing through the conditioner.

I use the Goody ouchless plastic comb to give a light comb in the shower, it's the only time I comb my hair! The goody one has a some 'give' in it, so if it gets caught n a tangle it doesn't pull it. This one: http://www.amazon.com/Goody-Ouchless-Detangling-Brown-88236/dp/B002IVKXWE

A couple sources of seamless plasic combs, if you decide to go that way (I haven't tried them yet, as I haven't been able to force myself to pay for shipping a comb):
http://hairsense.com/bone_combs.php (they apparently use "bone" to mean "bakelite")
http://tenderheaded.com/combs.html (the "Creative" ones are seamless)

I use the Body Shop's wooden bamboo comb to detangle my (wet with conditioner) hair in the shower. When I am done, I just wipe the comb off and leave it to dry outside the shower. When I do this, it doesn't warp at all. On the *few* occasions when I've forgotten and left it wet in the shower, it did warp/curve (while still wet), but when I removed it and left it out to dry, it straightened out again. Maybe bamboo doesn't permanently warp. Anyway, the comb is awesome and you should give it a try.

This is the kind of wide-toothed comb that I use for detangling, and it would work fine in a shower setting.

This comb is an extra-wide wide toothed comb. It's slightly wider teeth setting than most wide toothed combs. Not by a lot, but by enough that I can get my volume of hair detangled with this comb.

You can call and order paying by a credit card for shipment. Or you can order sometimes online. I would call and that way it keeps your info a little more confidential, and have it shipped to your home. Mine has some teeth missing now, so I am due for a new one. One of the things you live with when you're broke. A broken comb. Ah well. It's a great comb, and I carry it everywhere with me using it nearly exclusively. I also clean this comb whenever I wash my hair so as not to re-introduce bacteria back into my scalp skin.

Hope this helps.

I use the same comb for everything...a plastic wide tooth shower comb from Sally's Beauty Supply. No seams and I never have to worry about it breaking if I drop it.

This. :D I have 5 of these floating around. I keep one exclusively in the shower and the rest are scattered through the house and in my backpack. Never had any issues with seams either. :)
