My husband has always encouraged me to dye my hair red (I'm a natural blonde, level 7.5, with very pale skin and green eyes.) Can anyone post pics of natural blondes who went red?

I don't have any pictures, just a gentle comment; I hope this is something that you yourself want to do. I notice that you really have a very lovely color of blond hair!

I am a natural ash blonde, I loved having copper red hair. Root upkeep was awful though.
There are pics in my hair album, if you go through both pages you will find some bright copper red hair on me :)

Oh, he couldn't make me do anything... in fact, if I made an appt. to dye it, he'd likely talk me out of it, knowing how often I have regretted hair changes!

And thank you!

She looks amazing as a red head. It should be illegal to be that beautiful, lol. Another blonde who looks great as a redhead is Christina Hendricks. She looks so natural! Amy Adams is another one.

I looked at your album and I think that your natural hair colour is perfect, divine, omg gorgeouss! Why colour it? Just be aware that you may regret it after you do it, maybe not straight away, but in time when you'll have to touch up the roots every month and so on ... Especially if you're not used to mess a lot with your hair. I love red colour, too, but I just think that your natural colour is too stunning to change it.

Me! I'm naturally a light ash blonde and I've been colouring my hair a level 8 copper for about four years now.

I LOVE being a redhead, and it suits my pale Irish colouirng, but a big caveat: it's high maintenance and the only way to get it out is with scissors. I do my roots as soon as they show, which is every 2-3 weeks. Yep, I spend a lot of time with tint brush in hand, and I think the quality of my hair has suffered. I'm getting restless with it lately, and will probably cut off most of my length next year to have my hair highlighted back to my natural colour.

And your blonde is so lovely! I can understand the urge for a change. Maybe you could get some lowlights using a coppery demi? That way you can get a hit of red, but you can allow them to fade and grow out.

I'll try and get you some newer pictures up of me.
I do have some photos in the "show me your hennaed hair" thread from my first henna.

I was born platinum blonde Which turned golden then dark as I got older (sigh). When I bleach close to my natural childhood color it makes my face look beet red all of the time. I also have green eyes. I personally think henna really has been the best tone for my skin/eyes. The only other color that got me a lot of compliments was dark ash brown(almost black). Every other color made me look like I had olive splotches OR red all over. (I have both green and blue veins in my wrists)

Yes, photos would be great, I am afraid of looking beet or green. I also have blue and green veins, and can wear almost every color clothing except salmon/brick red/ocher (anything brownish red). Which makes me think that red hair may not be for me...

Thank you! Your hair in college when it was long - was that natural color? The level is close to mine, but the color is much redder/warmer.

I good way to try it without damage and upkeep is to us Clairol Loving Care. It can be hard to find, since I think they are discontinuing it. I did mine twice with the Auburn. I mixed in some of the Reddish Brown, and got a beautiful shade. After doing strand testing, it looked like the Auburn by itself would turn out too orange for my skin tone.

There are pics in my album of my hair in it's natural blonde and in red.

I'm a light blonde and i went strawberry/redish/blonde during the summer.A color just like Deborah ann woll's....in fact it's her picture that i showed to my hairdresser. It looked amazing at first, but it faded within a freaking week! In 2 weeks time, it didn't look red anymore, but an orangy blonde. Granted t, that happened because my hair was very light (an 8,5 i'd guess) , but i didn't risk it twice. If you really want to try it then go for it....but only if you trully dig it.

I agree, the length color in that picture looked iffy to me. From looking at these pictures, I think her hair is naturally a light to medium ash.

Yes. It is sad that women think they have to change their natural color in order to be acceptable. When I went Red, I did it purely for myself. I really didn't care that much what other people thought about it. And it wasn't that I was unhappy with my natural color.

Lilli - I'd go in for a consultation with an experienced colourist. IMHO, the undertones of the red you choose are really important. Naturally red hair is copper, not 'red red'. It's for this reason that I actually quite like my colour when it's faded, as the colour I use is a good, clean copper with lots of gold in it, so when it fades it fades to a nice strawberry blonde. If you decide to try lowlights with a demi, they should also fade to a goldy copper if you choose the right red. Avoid primary fire truck reds like the plague if you want natural looking colour!

This is a great thread. I am also contemplating dying my virgin light-medium blond hair red. Got to admit, I'm pretty nervous about it, but I have always loved red hair and feel like 25 years of roughly the same hair color means it is time to try something new. During my last trim, I had a consult with my stylist about this switch. She had great advice about tone (dark strawberry blond) and such, but suggested I hunt for pictures (something I'm not so good at as I'm never really inspired by celebrity hair). Thanks for helping winnow down the search.

Me too. For the first week, it would look great, then for a week or so I would look like my hair was floating a few millimeters above my head, then as the roots grew longer I'd look like I was balding along my part.

I have level 7 ash blonde hair, and I dyed coppery red with a 50/50 henna/cassia mix. Then I got sick of dealing with root maintenance, and spent the next 3.5 years growing it out! My siggy pic was taken about halfway through the growing out process.

I would say try a semi permanent dye but since I've gone through this experience, I say: don't do it. Don't dye your hair red, doesn't matter how much you want it. It's not worth it, specially if you are naturally blonde.

Simone Simons is a natural redhead.

I am a blonde who went red. I loved for four months, i actually looked like a real redhead, but then I realized it wasn't worth it. Too expensive to mantain it, because it fades to orange-y so quickly and the dye is so damaging.

But it's funny how blondes look good with red hair. Currently i have 4 inches of my dark blonde roots and people still act all surprised and ask "you are blonde??!!" when I say I'm not naturally redheaded.

I'll show you my pictures to try to convince you..

This was the first time i dyed it. I loved.

After two or three washes it faded to this. I still loved, I felt so sexy :P haha

Then my hair turned into absolute **** and I had to chop off. As you can see, I don't look very pleased. Lol.
http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/2248/lhc3.jpg

Then I dyed it again because I'm retarded. This was in Feb 2011.
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/6390/lhc4.jpg

Then i stopped dyeing and this is what it looked for the most part of 2011. Got all weird, orange-y, but longer. People still thought it was natural.
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/936/lhc55.jpg

It looked horrible in pictures, so I decided to do one last dye. Dyed it all very dark blonde, to get rid of the orange. Haven't dyed since and it looks like this today. People still think it's natural. People are stupid..

If you want to give your hair a red boost, you could try Quantum Riveting Reds Conditioner. I use it in the summer when the sun starts to bleach me out. They make a shampoo as well but for me it didn't add any color and made my hair feel very tangly. The conditioner is fantastic, though. It deposits a little red each time. I use it maybe once a week in summer so that my strawberry stays strawberry. I started life as a blonde but as I've gotten older I've turned strawberry/blonette. It might satisfying your craving without being drastic, and if you decide to grow it out it will leave less of a demarcation line since it's subtle.

Simone Simons is a natural redhead.

As a metal fan and natural red head, Simone Simons is NOT a natural red head. Most fans supposed she was a natural blonde, but Simone herself has said that her natural color is brown to put that story to rest. Besides, if you have ever seen her live you have seen her in a more blonde state which I think looks really nice on her.

Simone Talks About her Hair:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f5HhZNgxR0

I know it is a really old post and all, but I was looking for the statement by Simone about her hair color and found your post and felt it really needed to be corrected. I can't imagine how much she must dye her hair, but whatever she uses, even though it fades, it doesn't look to have fried her hair because her hair looks relatively healthy.

Was about to say this! If I were you, I'd use some manic panic or something to try it out first...I loved red on me, and dyed my hair all sorts of red shades throughout middle school and high school. But I got bored of it and wanted my natural color back. I tried dying my hair brown, but it literally did nothing.

It's a big commitment, and you have such a pretty natural color, so I'd say definitely go with temporary color first!

Here is a link to a photo of me.

I know the link looks funny but it is totally fine. Its like the direct image link so people can see it without even having to be on FB.

I am a natural blond and that was my henna red after maybe 3 or 4 applications.
I have not had my natural color for years and I fill in my eyebrows dark anyway so no one can even tell I am naturally like a level 8 ash blond!!

*geez...my face was quite round. I think I have lost some weight!*

All of these were chemical dye.

I apologize if the pictures are HUGE...I resized them very small...so it should work but some of us know that PB has been shotty lately.

My Grandma Ann (not the grandmother I fight with, the one who has been gone for a long time) prayed and prayed and prayed I would be a red head. She only half got her wish. I am feeling the temptation of that wonderful copper color but I want to be nice to The Naughty Mess and I have sworn off henna.

Sorry for the funny face :s

I tint it with superdrug colour effects, which is meant to be a wash in wash out thing. It seems to bring out the red in my hair more, although it's not completely 'wash in, wash out' because after using it for the last year you can now see when my roots come though (although that could be because I haven't been in the sun for months and it get bleached)
