View Full Version : Updo Test Lab - Yay or Nay?

I *love* french twists, but as my hair is rather long now, my twist are getting a wee bit too bulky. I also have a problem with getting the crown hair non-fluffy. I was toy-ing around a bit in the bathroom after work today (bored) and came up with this:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3061/2658131871_38b8f4f8e9.jpg?v=0

Yey or Nay?

How-to:

1. Separate crown hair, braid it and secure the ends if needed.
2. Put the braid at the side, make a french twist with the leftover hair, secure.
4. Wrap braid around and tuck the end under the top of the french twist, pin it.
5. Decorate!

Yea here, too... what a neat idea! I've seen a French twist with braids on top, but never thought to wind it around. Very pretty! :)

"YAY, to the Second Power here!" Looks great and I know what you mean about that top hair being "fluffy," too. It's either doing it's own little weird "bouffant" thing, or flattened out to my head so tight, it's pulling my skin back so much I look like I've had as much surgery as Joan Rivers! :o(

So how did you do this?

Duh...stupid here.
I forgot the important part:

I tried it, using your directions, and STILL FAILED. Looks lovely on you, but I am apparently permanently french-twist-impaired. Maybe a video would help?

I'm going to do the video......but what should I call the updo? "Fench Twist with Braid" is kind of boring....

How about the Wraparound Braided Twist? But the twist itself isn't braided... The Wraparound Braid and Twist? I dunno. The French Wraparound Braid?

ETA: I think Braided Wraparound [French] Twist describes it best out of all my ideas.

I'm no help on the name. Hypnotica's French Twist variation with braided accent?

Here's my attempt:
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/dd435/axnopy/010-2.jpg

The execution needs work, but it's an awesome idea. The braid helps to hide some of the imperfections in the twist. :)

I'm not wild about the French Twist, but with you modification I really, really like it! It's interesting and different and unusual and pretty. What a great idea!

July 12th, 2008, 12:45 PM
Very nice updo!:)

I tried it with a logroll instead and believe it has got potential. Still a bit big, so I try with a more traditional french twist too... when I can find some intructions that works with my lentgh. :o

What a brilliant idea. I have trouble with "pouf" on mine, too, and this solution is lovely. You know you have us all spoiled, now. You can't possibly post a 'do without one of your videos to go along with it!

I like jojo's name for it: Hypnotica braid wrap twist

Why not just "Hypnotica" for a name?

This is a stunning hairstyle. Twists are my favourite kind of style but I always have the problem with sticking up bits on top when I try to do them. I just tried this now and it is so quick to do and I have no sticky up bits at all. I can see I'm going to be wearing this a lot!

Thank you so much!
