I decided to try the diagnose your hair advice. So I went out and bought some VO5 kiwi clarifying shampoo. Washed my hair 3 times because I figured having never used a clarifying shampoo in my life (if I have I didn't know it) I should give it a good washing. I also had some aloe vera gel, coconut oil, and castor oil in my hair from the past 3 days. Didn't use conditioner which I'm sure is a first for me. Rinsed with cold water like I always do. Wrapped in a towel for 15-20 minutes and then let it air dry for a couple hours.

I was prepared for the worst! I was certain it would be a dry matted knotted up mess! Boy was I wrong. I slowly finger combed my hair while it dryed and to my surprise it was soft and almost.. dare I say.. silky. I didn't think this could be possible. I've been dying my hair for almost 15 years. And it probably has seen a moderate amount of heat styling.

I had my husband take some pictures so I could have a good starting point for the beginning of my LHC journey. He obviously didn't care if I had my hemline straight. :p

Before I did this "clarifying experiment" tonight I was really thinking maybe it wouldn't be so bad to cut it all of and grow it out natural. Now I really don't want to. I guess I'll keep searching for the best way to match my light brown roots to the rest of my hair using henna/indigo.

So I had some questions. Is it a good idea to type your hair after clarifying and without any product in it? I didn't realize how straight my hair really was. There was even a bit more volume. My ponytail measure 1/2-3/4 of an inch more.

Also if my hair reacted so well to this clarifying I guess I was doing to much of a good thing before? Silicone build up? I know I use the most moisturizing, damage repairing, products I can find. I figured that's what I needed since I dye my hair so much. Should I try cone free?

Thank you so much LHC! I had no idea what cones were and thought product build up only came from hairspray, mousse and other such styling aids. I thought the more conditioning, moisturizing products I put in my hair the better. I had no idea what clarifying shampoo even was! So glad I did this.

Thank you! I have some pretty crazy split ends myself. Especially the underside of my hair at the nape of my neck. It grows all frizzy and wirey. I'm hoping less combing, dyeing, and messing with my hair in general will really help.

Your hair is lovely! :)

Congrats on the extra thickness too.

I think it's best to type hair once clarified. Cones and other products can modify your hair to a different type. My hair with cones for example loses it waves a little.

If you like try going cone free to see if that works for your hair and have fun experimenting. Aubry's honeysuckle rose is really thick and is cone/protein free.

Good luck :)
