This isn't something new but it's just mind boggeling on how rude and cruel people are towards people who grow their hair to great lengths.

The most common you get are those who always bug to donate, yes there are people who have cancer and cannot grow their hair but why guilt trip others into donating their hard work? especially since the hair will actually be given to make hair extensions for rich bratty girls.

Another thing common is haters insulting others, saying it's gross, unhygienic etc. Worst comment I've seen was I quote:
'I hope her hair gets caught in machinery and her scalp rips off.'

 urrrghh...why?, why the hate towards long hair?

Because many people can't appreciate long, healthy hair. They think it's "weird", "yucky" or "nasty". These people seem to lack the ability to appreciate beautiful long tresses and relish belittling those that grow it long. There's a sick kind of "kick" to trashing those of us who love long hair and take care of it. Fortunately, we have the LHC where long hair is cherished and admired!

Because some people are just plain mean.

Why is there hate towards anything different at all? Because everyone has their own opinion and usually don't hesitate to voice their thoughts. Even the most tolerant of people can judge pretty harshly when confronted with something they are not comfortable with. Best we can do about it is to ignore the rude comments and go about our own way because it is never going to stop.

Can I just Chime in and say I'm neither rich nor bratty. I work very hard for pittance and saved for months for this 'bratty' set of extensions.

I'm speaking out of anger towards the lie of where some donations are made, I've read a few stories in the past about hair being given not for cancer patients etc but to make extensions.

Sorry if you were highly offended :P

Haters gonna hate.

Have to say though, I did think this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgEuFdFrKII) about deliberately not donating is a brilliant reply.

There's also the Locks of Love thing; they sell their wigs, not give them, on a sliding scale. So while you don't have to be a 'rich girl', it's definitely not going to be free.

That's why I disable ratings and set comments to only show them after I approve them on my YouTube long hair channel.

I'm not sure if you have noticed, but people leave nasty comments on YouTube over pretty much *everything* Long hair, short hair, math lessons, cute clips of chickens, you name it! It's the internet. Some people are trolls.

Some people have jealousy issues. I over heard 2 woman talking about my hair as I sat in the waiting room at a Dr's office. The one said, "Look at her hair."

The response? "She needs to cut it."

You know what they say about "opinions", right?

"Opinions are like a**h***s....,

Everyone's got one.

What about Indian Temple hair? :p

I've never had someone ask me if I was planning to donate my hair or tell me that I should donate it. If that did happen, hopefully I'd have the catty good sense to reply that they have a really nice car and maybe they should donate that.

That's when you should turn around and tell them a few choice words. They will probably be too stunned and embarrassed to give a response. The day someone says something like that to me is the day I unload on some unsuspecting people.

And I also have used extensions before. They aren't just for brats. Sometimes they are for people who want long hair so bad but can't seem to grow it.

It's not so much the fact that extensions are used - it's that many people who donate their hair don't know where it's going or how it's used.

And people are just mean sometimes (not everyone, thank goodness). People like to make themselves feel good by putting others down.

It's the nature of the internet. If it bothers you, there's an easy solution: don't go looking for something you're not going like. Life's too short to spend it being annoyed.

I agree with this. People here will speak ill of those who chose to bleach or heat or dye or otherwise 'damage' their hair. On the webs I've seen people who criticise black women for not going natural and those who think wearing natural black hair shows a lack of self respect and care for hair. There are people who think women should have long hair and men's should be short. There are people who think natural colours are boring, people who think bright un-natural colours are ostentatious. People who think dreads should only be worn by those for whom they are culturally appropriate, people who say do it if you like it. People who say gray hair makes you look old. People who say gray hair is beautiful.

The only way to contentment is to be sure you are doing what makes YOU happy, and forget about everyone else's opinion. That someone else doesn't like very long hair doesn't make it the wrong choice for you just as your love of long hair doesn't make short hair the wrong choice for them.

You have to remember that the scourge of the Internet (4chan and the likes) are out and rampant on Youtube just to say awful things because being behind a computer makes them feel big and bad. You just have to ignore the troll and never feed them.

I quit YouTube recently. I did not have anything negative aimed at any of my comments (I didn't get around to putting up any videos), but I really took a step back and saw some really vile and unnecessary comments from people who haven't yet learned to hold back on the internet. There are a lot of arguments and "yelling" between posters going on over there about tastes in music.

The worst thing I saw on YouTube was a sick "joke" about a woman who was severely maimed in an accident. The video about this woman was aimed at a testimony to her bravery in the face of severe pain and disability from the accident; she is trying to preach to people about drunk driving.

Haters are gonna hate, they'll find something to hate on regardless of what it is.
Also on another note about donating hair. The biggest organization in my country that accepts hair donations is CANSA (Cancer Association of South Africa) and they're upfront that if your hair isn't healthy enough when you donate it, it will be sold and the proceeds will go towards cancer research and treatment, so if I ever decide to donate my hair, I'll be fine about it because it will still be going towards a good cause.

Wow. that's beyond disgusting.

I think it's both a jealousy thing... Though I think it also has to with being scared if something they don't understand... like how some people are scared of punks or goths- they don't understand, so they make fun of them.

If I do have to venture onto youtube, I do my best to NEVER read the comments. They always annoy me and are usually laden with unnecessary nasty language and bad manners.

I do get a bit annoyed when I hear about nasty comments on the channels of some of my LHC friends. You know, the ones with some of the best hair in the world? Yeah, they get crap about really stupid things.

Locks of love (http://verybigblog.com/2006/04/24/locks-of-love-is-a-scam/), although supposedly now they are compliant (http://www.bbb.org/charity-reviews/national/children-and-youth/locks-of-love-in-west-palm-beach-fl-1839). In my eyes they lost credibility even if now they may or may not have corrected their methods of collecting money.

Because on the internet you can't see the faces of the people you hurt. People can be mean and spiteful just for the feeling of power it gives them. Being horrid is something they can control when life is unpredictable and often seen as unfair. At some point in time some one has probably hurt them emotionally and caused them to do something to their own hair, like a big chop. To try and get rid of the pain they do what they can to project it on to others. Why should they suffer alone?

I have customers that come in and they think yelling at me and being bull headed will get them what they want, it only makes me less inclined to do anything to help them. It's hilarious though because every time I have gotten to the point I was going to tell them "You can turn around and walk out the door or I can have the police escort you" my co-workers (all of which are male) come stomping over and do it for me. I find humor is the stupidity of it when it's happening and when it's over I just feel bad for people who try to catch bees with vinegar. Being mean to the whole world must take a lot of unhappiness. Probably the worst fate any one could have.:(

Hey, not all of us from 4chan are terrible people. We don't like the trolls, either. ;3
To answer the topic, when people see others doing things they wouldn't do, or just differently from the way they would do it, they always like to think the other person is in the wrong and they should do it their way. Just tell them you like your hair and you will continue to grow it.

I've seen many hateful comments on youtube towards people with long hair. I honestly think it's a jealousy thing, or maybe they are intimidated by others who have long hair . Either way, it's none of their business what others do to their hair. I planned on donating the 32" I cut off when I was twelve to locks of love, and they didn't want it because they said red was a hard color to work with . They obviously aren't that desperate for donations if they didn't want to use my hair. Some people need to realize that those "amazing" foundations really aren't that amazing.

Well, red is difficult. Every redhead I've seen has a different shade, so making a wig would be hard. I'm not saying that they're any better, but I'm just sayin'.

I am actually shocked that people bash long hair..I knew some didn't like long hair but to be hateful about it??? I guess I am just too into hair period to understand their thought process...

Now I am a little scared of the comments my video might have coming :(

Yeah, but they could dye it, like they do to almost all of the hair that they get. And I think that almost three feet of hair could make a sufficient wig. I've heard many stories about those kinds of organizations not accepting red hair because it's not a desirable color. It seems pretty rude to me...

I totally agree with you. My best friend tried to donate 28" of hair last year and they didn't accept her reddish-blonette hair, because it was an "odd color". I say beggars can't choosers. They act so desperate and make you feel bad if you don't donate, but what if they don't even accept your hair? Pretty lame...

On the hair donation thing -- what irks me is they expect me to chop off my hair. Hell, if it means that much to them, they should grow out their own to donate -- should feel guilt every time they go in for a cut.

So if a person with long hair DOESN'T donate their hair and are selfish because its just for their own personal appearance.....

doesn't that make people who can and DON'T grow their hair out to donate and just keep it short to how they like (and trim it endlessly) selfish too?

ETA: Didn't read until the end of the thread.. so uh.. pretty much what the above poster said :P

Youtube comments are a cesspool, I pretty much grantee there are as horrible of things written about short haired women out there. It's best just not to read the comments unless you have a thick enough skin to find the trolls hilarious on their sad, sad attempts to make people mad.
