Has anyone tried Aveda Pure Abundance (http://www.aveda.com/product/7414/16934/Hair-Care/Hair-Concern/create-volume/Pure-Abundance-Volumizing-Shampoo/index.tmpl)? If so, what was your experience?

I have not tried the pure abundance line but I don't like the Aveda products. I have a similar hairtype to you, and stylists always use Aveda when I go and suggest the products to me, which I buy and end up hating. I was stuck with the damage remedy shampoo and deep treatment conditioner forever :( I wouldn't try this personally with my experience with Aveda. They smell nice and have good texture, I want to like the products but I just can't due to the results.

I'm an Aveda student so naturally I end up trying just about everything. :p The Pure Abundance Shampoo and Conditioner was one of my first experiments. I'll be honest and say it's not anything to write home about. Now, my hair is very short, so I don't really have any problems with volume (I don't have anything to be weighed down by), but my hair is fine. I noticed no change in my hair's body or thickness. It did feel soft and nice in general, but it didn't exhibit the promised effects.

I haven't used it myself, but I know some people who adore the Pure Abundance Hair Potion, which is a powder you apply to the scalp and massage in for volume. It basically helps give you little (or not so little) "poofs".

I have. I liked it. It didn't make me jump up and down with glee like Damage Remedy does but I thought it was good. Keep in mind I love Aveda products. They work great on my hair and with my water. I haven't used Pure Abundance in a while so if I remember to do it, I'll use it my next wash and try to come back and report to you.

Many thanks to everyone for your responses. :flowers: Wow! There is no consensus here, is there? Maybe I'll get the trial sizes. I'm going to the Aveda store tomorrow. I have to return a moisturizer. It's the worst moisturizer that I've ever used. It has absolutely zero slip. I've tried using it over damp skin, over oil... Still no slip.

I love Aveda Rosemary Mint shampoo. I hate the conditioner, which doesn't have enough slip to suit me. I'm not crazy about Rescue Remedy or whatever the name of the deep moisturizing conditioner is, either.

Boy, that sounds negative. There are several Aveda products that I love, and I adore the fragrance of many of them.

If I get this product line, I'll keep you posted. Till then, amuse yourselves by watching gnomes eat Jarlsberg. :cheese:

Yesterday, I exchanged my moisturizer for the Pure Abundance shampoo and conditioner.

This morning, I shampooed and conditioned with it. It smells divine. (I wish Aveda would make perfume out of their shampoo fragrances.)

My hair did not have a lot of slip while it was wet.

After towel drying, detangling was relatively easy with my Tangle Teezer.

I made a Celtic Knot and secured it with a pair of Ketylos. It looks fabulous -- extremely shiny.

I did not notice any additional body or lift at the crown.

About 10 minutes after putting my hair up, I realized that my bun was beginning to slip apart. The Celtic Knot is the most secure bun in my repertoire, so this means that my hair was extremely slippery.

I had a doctor's appointment. When I got there, I took my hair down. (I would have had to have done this anyway.) I was amazed by how fabulous my hair looked -- almost as straight as if it had been flat ironed and very shiny.

Before I left the doc's, I put my hair up again. It began to slip apart almost immediately.

So, my first impression of this combo is that it does not deliver what it promises: more body and fullness. Having said that, my hair looks so amazing that I am going to continue using it at least for a while to see whether the results continue. I will have to make my updos tighter. I may even be tempted to wear my hair down from time to time.

That's interesting - I find that conditioner to have a lot of slip. Certainly a lot more than the Shampure conditioner (which kind of disappears into my hair and I can't tell it's on there).

I wonder if it was a little too harsh for you? Aveda shampoos do have sulfates (naturally-derived or not, sulfates are still sulfates). Maybe diluting it would give you the best of both worlds - beautiful-looking hair AND the ability to make good buns?

Neoma, this morning I used the Aveda Pure Abundance conditioner. I used it with Redken Clear Moisture shampoo. I didn't have the matching Aveda shampoo. I let my hair air dry and then did a cinnamon bun with a Ficcare. As we have said the scent is awesome. My hair is silky and has a good amount of slip. I don't think I have any extra root lift. But we have to realize at our longer lengths there isn't much that can be done to add much life. A smidge is all we are going to get. I can see how it could add volume and life to mid length to short hair with layers. I've always felt Shampure was a harsher than other Aveda products. The last time I used it I added in a little Damage Remedy to make it work better for me.

Very good point about the root lift, Carolyn. :flowers:

I took a nap this afternoon and slept with my hair loose.

I was incredibly -- and pleasantly -- surprised to find that my wide-tooth comb glided through my hair meeting almost zero resistance! That is practically unheard of for my tangle prone hair. If this continues, the "dry detangling" magic :magic: alone will make this combo a keeper.

The updo issue is going to be problematic, however. I may have to experiment with braided buns. That's the only thing I can imagine lasting on my hair when it's this slippery.

BTW, I found Shampure to be a bit harsh, too.

It's giving you a ton of slip b/c they all have a ton of cones. Are you okay with that?

I've used it. At first I loved it. It made my hair shiny and I did experience a little more fullness (not much though), and the smell is amazing. But after a few uses I noticed that my hair began to feel drier. With my hair being highlighted I'm always worried about products drying out my hair. So I stopped using it.

Cool. For me, any amount of cones = flat hair. I was using cones before my major shed but have since stopped since I need all the body I can get. Thus, volumizing product that includes cones would be pointless for me.

I have been loving V05 Volumizing S&C, and they only cost $.80 each.

I understand about the cones = flatness equation. I often just use them on my length, since I'm going to bun it anyway.

It's great that you found products that you like for such a great price!
