I always trim my hair like this because I love face framing layers; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz56PUkB2dM

(I skip the thinning part - The splits you get are awful to get rid of!)

No matter how hard I try to keep it even the left bottom layers always ends up getting 2 or 3 inches shorter than the right ones because I always end up cutting too much when I see that it's uneven! How can I check that my haircut is even/cut it so it gets even?

And no, a hairdresser is not an option for me. 40 dollars each month for a micro trim is just not worth it...

I think she may be referring to Feye's self-trim method:
The Livejournal (http://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/) has the same information as these LHC articles:
LHC U-shape article (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=199)
LHC straight-across article (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=198)
LHC V-shape article (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=196)

I've read them before - But my hair is layered and it doesn't explain how to get it even :(

Putting your hair in a top, high pony and snipping the ends off, creates layers apparently. Ive never done this but a few on here have wrote about the effectiveness of getting layers this way.

Jojo that sounds like a good method. Can you link to a thread? I'm going to need to figure out how to keep layers in my hair soon too. Microtrimming reduces them.

Jojo I've done that before and wouldn't recommend it unless you cut the pony at the end to get subtle layers. Getting face framing layers with that method looked awful on me...

Also, I don't want to stop cutting it the way the video does, I just needed tips on how to see if my hair is even/how I can get it even...

If you're doing it once a month for split ends, I would recommend S&Ding! You'll lose a let less hair.

As far as it goes to keep my layers, I follow my hairdressers work. I pick up the layers, and cut off about 1/4". It works for me!
