I don't know if this has been posted before, but my results were amazing!
I find them to look better on me than the "cocoons" did because they curl the ends as well. Also, cocoons would never hold when I went to sleep because of my slippery hair.

Here's how to do them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYxS1ohz4Ao&feature=player_embedded

Yes, thanks, that was interesting. I wonder where I can get the hairband in England? Also, I wonder if it would work with layers? I thought it looked nice up in the band as well!

Yay! Glad some people found it useful.

Well, my hair is layered and it worked. You just have to be careful getting all the ends. Also, I couldn't find that headband so I went for an ordinary thick one..

I like this one a lot better than the cocoons which I tried a few and gave up. Plus I know I could never wear them out. The before style with this is almost better than the after curls

I need to find a hair band now!

That looks really interesting. Mind you, if I brushed my wurls they wouldn't look nice like the lady's hair in the video, my hair would be a frizzy, bushy mess.

I didn't have any luck with the cocoons, but I did try the headband technique several times and posted pics. It was quite cute up (with the headband further up my head, hidden by hair rather than right on the forehead), but it has been a few months, and it appears that my hair has grown just enough to make it harder to wrap it around the headband.

Headband: http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_07-2011_headband-curls_1A.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_07-2011_headband-curls_1B.jpg And the results (just finger-combed): http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_07-2011_headband-curls_E.jpg

I have instead been using bandannas to curl mine lately. I split the hair roughly in half and use 3-4 bandannas on each side. It has been working so much better for me than rag curls or pin curls, mainly because they end up sitting on top of my head, so it is really easy to sleep in.

Also, there is no tying involved to get them to stay. Start by rolling the bandanna up and then folding it in half. I section out some hair, spritz it just a bit, and then start with the bottom of the hair, positioned about an inch and half to 2 inches from the fold in the bandanna and then start rolling it upward in a spiral fashion.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_12-02-2011_Bandanna-curls_A.jpg

When you have it rolled all the way up, take the loose ends of the bandanna, pull them under the rolled hair, and tuck them through the folded side. (Does that make sense?)

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_12-02-2011_Bandanna-curls_B.jpg

Pulled through.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_12-02-2011_Bandanna-curls_C.jpg

And now snugged down just a bit; no tightly, just snug.

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_12-02-2011_Bandanna-curls_D.jpg

Now the whole head with 6 bandannas (8 bandannas make tighter curls):

I'm sure other people have come up with this because it is so simple, but I haven't seen it yet, so I thought I would share (don't mean to hijack the thread).

I will post the results tomorrow.

Cool to watch, but I wouldn't use a rubber band in my hair. Looks like it would be damaging!

I think it looks cool before she takes it out of the elastic as an updo. Maybe with something less damaging?

It's not really a rubber band, it's an elastic headband that is covered in fabric. You can find them in the hair sections at grocery stores and what not.

I hadn't seen this video either! It was fascinating! I wish I'd found this back when my hair was a bit shorter. But, I do have hairbands like that that I don't use, and decided to try using them to sort of puff up my roots a bit and see if I can get them to dry like that, with a bit more volume. :) So I did come up with some ideas myself from this video! Thanks!!

And the hairbands I have that are similar are the Goody Ouchless elastic bands with the no slip grip thread sewn into it.

Also, I'm going to try this with my cousin who has stick straight chin length hair but longs for curls! I bet she's gonna look super cute!!

Good morning, and thank you! Here are the results:

Just removed the bandannas and shook it out a bit with my fingers (ignore the nightie):
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_12-03-2011_Bandanna-curls_B.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_12-03-2011_Bandanna-curls_A.jpg

And then after getting dressed and putting in a couple of clips (the bangs are still a problem):
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_12-03-2011_Bandanna-curls_C.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn245/Eirelin/Hair/th_12-03-2011_Bandanna-curls_D.jpg

However, you can use the headband idea for going out in public, which you can't do with the bandannas. That is the biggest drawback to this. On the other hand, you can't really use the headband trick once your hair is past a certain length.
