I noticed something strange about my hair lately. I think it's damaged :(

Here's what my hair texture is like, slightly wet after washing and oiled.

But underneath my hair is another story:

I get this crap. I don't understand why I have this frizzy, dry mess underneath.
It's curlier than the rest of my hair and no matter how much oil I use, it always comes out this way.

Hmm I am thinking its not so much that it is damaged but maybe it is just a very tight curl and when its brushed it is frizzing out. Thats what I see in the pic anyway. I am not sure how to manage tight curls, but I am sure someone will come along.

You need to avoid combing it or brushing it, then it will curl, especially with a little encouragement from aloe vera gel, styling gel, or curl creme (twirl it around your finger).

No, it doesn't look like damage to me, either. My under-canopy tends to be a lot wavier than the top, and it looks like that's what might be going on with you, too.

Doesn't look like damage. I'd do what spidermom suggests.

that's brushing out curls on dry hair, not damage.

That's what my entire head looks like if I brush it dry. I actually don't even own a brush... Even over-combing can separate my strands and give me mega-frizz instead of defined, happy curls.

I think it's likely you're much wurlier than you think. Cones make bits of my hair straight, so try clarifying, then conefree conditioner then curl creme and airdry with no touching. I think you'll be surprised how wurly your hair might be!

Oh yeah, bless you Yasmine91, you have some real curls going on under there if you'll let them, some pretty tight ones I would think from that image :D

That curly place would be a good spot to leave down in an up-do. P.S. You can comb it while it's damp, then twirl. I bet you will get a gorgeous curl (or more).

Wow, I would love to see what that looks like sans brushing (if that's what the issue is)!!

Yep. CURLS.

My canopy is 3a to 3b, but my under layer is where all the 3c curls hide. Be nice to them, and they'll give you rock star volume and pretty tendrils in updos. :D

I'm on the boat with clarify, condition well with finger-combing, and just let it dry. You might be in for a (I think awesome) surprise.
