Hey guys, I was just wondering if you knew of any updos that will protect hair from breakage and tangles. Now that my hair is about two inches longer, I think it's time for some protective updo's but...I don't know of any . Do you know of any links where I could find out how to do some? Also, what protective updo is your favorite?

Here's a list of hairstyles: http://hairstyledictionary.ztn.net/filter.php?ax=o

Many of the styles listed are protective styles. Any sort of bun that protects the ends and most braids are considered to be protective hairstyles.

My favorite style is the cinnamon bun. I have used it since I started growing my hair at APL.

My favorite protective updo is the lace crown braid:

It's comfy, secure and I love the way it looks.

You might be interested in trying the Gibson Tuck, which can be found on page 11 of the Hairstyling section..click on the Articles tab in the grey menu bar (above) and then on Hairstyling.

There is also the sock bun and the French Twist and the half up.

When styling, be sure your hair is detangled when you begin. Happy hair styling!

I like wearing a traditional hair bun. I wear a snood over my bun.

I just wanted to add that she may not be a native speaker of English. For example, in Dutch we do make plurals with an apostrophe if a word ends in a vowel. Don't judge people who are trying their best at writing in your language:)

I think its important to mention that all not protective hairstyles are protective for everyone.
I am finding that any bun that requires twisting my hair around is creating single strand knots in my type 3c hair. I'd probably be okay with a braided bun, but my hairs not long enough. So I'm doing fake crown braids using dutch braiding (corn=rows).
Just wanted to be say to check your hair to make sure you aren't having issues even though others can wear that style. And also, always be careful not to braids or buns too tight --traction alopecia.
