I was hoping there might be some cones I could use and wash out without sulfates. My hair likes cones, but I have developed a sensitivity to sulfates. If anyone knows which if any cones I can use with my CV 'poo bars, I would very much appreciate the help.

Jason Natural shampoos and conditioners are sulfate free. I'm pretty certain they had cones the last time I bought them. You can find them online or at most health food stores. They smell wonderful!

Hmm, definitely thinking about those. I'll have to find somewhere nearby that carries them, as I am quite sensitive to scent.

Anyone else? Know specific cones I can use with 'poo bars and other non-sulfate products and not get major build-up? I'm okay with occasionally having to do a baking soda clarification or something, but SLS is a no-go for me.

I was confused about the same thing, because my hair really likes cones, and hates sulfates but I was concerned about buildup. Turns out a few are water soluble and most will eventually wash out with mild cleansers like cocamidopropyl betaine, cocamide DEA (and there are a couple more) that tend to be included in sulfate-free shampoo. Just see if your hair feels like there's buildup, and maybe give up a couple heavier cones or occasionally do a clarifying wash.

The trouble is that I don't know which cones are the 'light' ones that I can wash out without sulfates and which are the 'heavy' ones that will build up.

I use amino-functionalised silicones and wash them out with glucoside-based shampoos, alternated with CO. It's been working well so far. :D Here's an article on amino-functionalised silicones (http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/curlchemist-amodimethicone-and-other-amine-functionalized-silicones), and here (http://www.untamedtresses.com/long-hair-care-2/can-glucosides-remove-silicone-build-up-3143/)'s a thread on 'cones and glucoside cleansers. :)

Thanks for posting these links, pepperminttea! Very interesting! It eventually lead me to this article, http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/whats-the-scoop-on-silicones, which I think is really helpful to determine exactly how to remove common 'cones. I like to use 'cones in moderation in the winter, but I had myself convinced that I need sulfates to remove them. Back to coco betaine shampoos! Yay! :cheese:

Thanks pepperminttea, that was exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. Kristin, that other piece you posted is also quite helpful!

The Organix shampoo and conditioners are Sulfate and Paraben free, and they contain cones. They aren't to cone-heavy either; just the right amount. :D Plus, they're pretty cheap.

Tigi products are sulphate free and have cones, some are also without cones but only a few.
