Your experience with homemade (liquid castile) shampoo?

Im thinking of making some - apparently its prertty simple - about equal parts liquid castile soap and distilled water, and some carrier/essential oils. If you have tried this, what has been your experience? Any tips and tricks?

My quick and dirty response is diluted well, with an acid rinse and some deep conditioning and it will work for long hair.
I used it with bsl dreads, so think about how that is the typical opposite of what people want.

I can see it working as an occasional use in a water or conditioner only routine.
