Ok so I want my son to have long hair, but since he's a baby and has never had a hair cut his hair length ranges from .5-5 inch's. I figure I can even his hair up during a bath in the kitchen sink, and then let it grow out afterwards since it would be even. I just have no idea how to cut his hair and need some ideas.

No one? I know I'm not the only person who has a little boy on LHC.

I'd say the best way would be to clip cut it evenly and help it through with a bit of gentle layering until about chin length :)
It would help if I knew texture :) is it curly? Straight?

Can you get him to sleep in a sitting-up position? I believe that's the first step to cutting a small child's hair if you don't have some way to stop them from wiggling. :D

Do be careful. My husband is missing a chunk of ear from when his father tried to cut his hair when he was a wiggly kid.

He has f/m straight but with tight curl's in the bottom section by his neck.

He's fascinated with taking a bath in the sink so I figured he wouldn't even notice me cutting his hair, and then I could just rinse him off.

Please take care when cutting if he is really just a babe and is his first hair cut!

It's difficult to cut a baby's hair when they have straight hair and even more difficult if they have curls, especially if the child is so young and does not understand that he/she needs to sit still.

My son was 2 before he had his first haircut and so he understood :)

I did it, I think it looks pretty good and subtle natural looking. I did take awhile and I kept giving him dishes to "wash."

Awww...so sweet! :) You did a good job, Mom! My little guy just turned one and I have been wondering about how I would go about cutting his hair since he probably wont hold still...I might have to try what you did!
