Hi everyone , so I'm new on this forum and I'm just really trying to read all the articles and finding what is best for my hair type, but I have to say that there is really a lot of information in here and I am a tiny bit lost, so I thought I could ask you guys some advice because some of you have been in this forum for a really long time, and well, basically know like everything!!
I've had a lot of problems with my hair, for almost 3 years now, its texture started changing from straight to curly when I was younger and since my sister/mum both have straight hair they just couldn't give me any advice. My mum always took me to the hairstylist and had my hair cut really short so I never had it long... Anyways so when its texture changed I basically started looking everywhere for information, but it didn't help, it just needed a lot of moisture, it was brutal not soft at all... Two summers ago I decided to change its colour and used oxygen ( the garnier brand) I destroyed my hair completly and I had to cut it many times, everytime really short. It has gotten a littele bit bette but the damage is still here... I'm currently doing oil treatments(argan) that I let sit all night long, then wash my hair and put on a deep conditioner. The rest of the week(I only wash my hair once) I put avocado oil in the ends.
I really hope it will get longer(dreaming) and softer, so I'm asking for advice because I really struggle with it.:D
But .... Im so happy i'm in this forum and already learning tuns of stuff!!! Thanks

I got a bit confused reading all that... lots of info! Ok, so what the problem is is that your hair is damaged and not soft, correct?

It sounds to me like you have a good regime going on, you did not mention if it as helping a bit or not...?

I don't see any pictures ?? keep reading info and practice untill you find what works for you and stop dying and doing heat damaging things and finally stop cutting really short .. lol

also you mention you have curls look out for the curly wurly thread and have a read thru that :-)

Treat your hair gently, like a fine piece of lace. By this I mean using a wide tooth comb to detangle it. Always detangle from the ends of the hair, bit by bit, until you reach the scalp.

Always, always, always DETANGLE with a comb before you brush.

Do S and D (Search and Destroy) on your ends regularly to keep damage trimmed.

Trim every 3 to 4 months.

Avoid using heated appliances (blow fryers, hot irons, hot curlers) and chemicals.

You might try using a silk cap or silk pillowcase to protect your delicate ends at night.

Wear your hair in updos to protect those ends and use hair friendly elastics (no metal in them).

Above all, be patient! Good luck!

OOh I think madora hits a big thing for me - patience really is key here. Go check out the useful links sticky. Read the info, and then read it again. Take the time to explore every inch of the site here and see what really works for you and your hair.

When I get really frustrated (like I have been the past few weeks) I start checking out people's albums regularly - seeing everyone's success is so helpful to me!

Also remember that you have to give any new routine a good few weeks try out to know how it's really going to work for you. Sometimes the biggest problem our hair has is that we're changing too much too often (at least in my case!)

Happy reading and good luck to you!

Start small. Madora's list is great. Try not to get carried away and try multiple things at once because it's really hard to know what works and what doesn't when you are trying too many things.

I would recommend clarifying your hair with a good clarifying shampoo (Pantene makes a good one). Get yourself a cone-free conditioner and slather it on your hair and let it sit for an hour. Wash it out with cold water, put it up in a towel and then when you take it down you can very gently detangle with a very wide tooth comb (just be super gentle when it's wet) and use your hands to scrunch the curl into your hair. Then just let it air dry.

See how your hair feels. If it's super frizzy, wait until it's almost completely dry then put it in a bun if you can. This tames the frizzies for me.

Check your argan oil for it's ingredients and if the first one is silicones, you know it's basically a silicone product that is best used as a finisher rather than a treatment.

Olive oil works great for me as a deep treatment overnight. Just wash it out with your conditioner, not shampoo. This will take it out completely.

Once you get comfortable with this routine, you can start adding other things into it but for now, I would stick with getting moisture infused into your hair and letting your natural texture do it's thing.
