How fast does your hair grow per month :D? (please base this on your normal hair growth).

What do you think contributes to your growth rate?

Argh! I wanted this to be a poll. Anyone know how I add a poll?

I have never done a poll but when you are creating a new post if you go to the bottom of the page it says
Post a Poll
Yes, post a poll with this thread
Number of poll options: (Maximum: 10)
So you just mark yes and that is it I think! :D

I'm thinking around 1/2 an inch usually.
During the summer, or when I'm on my vitamins and taking really good care of myself, it seems to grow a bit more.

Since I joined here at LHC, I've measured a dead even 1/2 inch a month, but I hoping with taking care of some vitamin B deficiencies and more regular exercise, it may improve. We'll see though, I hope at some point during every year I get a "growth spurt" like so many others where my hair will grow 3/4 - 1 inch a month! I'm soooooo close to brushing with shoulder, and hopefully that means I'll have APL hair for my wedding next year in July. :D

I haven't measured regularly, but based on henna roots, I'd estimate that it's a smidge over 1/2" per month. However, mine tends to grow in fits and starts. It's been known to get 7 inches/year while not growing for 5 consecutive months during that period, and once it did roughly 4" in 5 weeks (years before I measured at all).

About half an inch most months, which feels slow at the time, but over a year is a decent chunk of hair!

I've averaged 1 cm or 0.4 inches/month since I started keeping track.

I measured my growth for 33 months, and had an average of 0.52" per month.

I stopped measuring this summer because I was upset about my shedding. Since then I have greatly increased the protein in my diet, and despite monthly 0.5" trims, my hair grew quickly grew past my goal length to the bottom of my knees. I just cut it back up to the top of my knees (I little above my goal length). So, now that I have improved my diet, it seems my growth rate may have increased (but I have not actually measured it). Maybe it was just a nice growth spurt, it's too early after my diet change to know for sure.

On average, my hair grows about an inch per month, sometimes more. It's always been like that, too no matter what.

I think somewhere between .5 and 1 in... hard to say really, because I keep trimming.

I have not been measuring it, so I am not sure, but my hair grows extremely slow, I think less than half an inch per month. :( But it is very healthy on the other hand. I rarely get split ends, I trim every five months and last time my hairdresser said I barely needed a trim. :cheese:

My hair grows 1/2 per month so far, and I am very healthy and quite young :p

I can get up to an inch per month in the summer months, and I have a feeling that 11 hours of sleep nightly, being outside all day, and warm weather are the reason :D

On a side note, Monistat does not seem to be working for me :(

I've been getting exactly 1/2" per month for a while now. Occasionally I get a bit more or a bit less. Overall it's about average.

On average a little over 1/2 inch a month but I usually only grow during fall and winter, then shed a lot and stall for a couple of months before it starts growing again during fall.

My hair has not noticably grown at all since I started taking care of it more than a year ago. :boohoo: Not that i've noticed anyway, and it's not like my measurements can be very accurate as the tightness of the curls can vary day to day, anyhoo, it looks the same length, if not shorter. :(
So I picked the first option.

Is it bad to say I really dont know? My hair tends to grow about 1/2" - 1" in good months, but it stalls often. I wish I knew my yearly growth rate, but sadly I dont really keep track of that. Though i probably should. >.>

My hair used to grow less than half an inch, but a couple of months ago it grew over 2 inches in one month, then it's been slowing down to 1 inch a month. So currently I'm not sure, but I'm definitely not complaining :P

Think I grow round about 1/2" per month. I don't really keep perfect track of it though and at the moment I'm sort of not measuring and just letting it be! I did keep diaries when I was younger and measured my fringe growth, so it'd be interesting to go and check that to see if I could figure out what my growth rate was then!

However, I have never had really fast growing hair (1"+ a month) and I know that for a fact, because several times in the past I've grown my hair from a chin length bob without cutting for a year, and it just never got THAT long (which would probably be about BSL after 12" of growth).

My hair usually grows a wee bit more or a wee bit less than half an inch, depending on how much stress i've been under and/or how much I've been eating/what i've been eating.

With my routine though and supplements it has been growing .75 which of course has me thrilled. :D

EDIT: I just realized, reading my post there. Before I started taking supplements and massaging my scalp so often and using the tips and techniques advised by LHC... I'd had experiences of almost .75... I wonder if my hair naturally grows that... and I have just been taking supplements which have helped with a deficiency and maybe the scalp massages have helped with blood circulation since I don't have the greatest (I'm not exactly the most physically active). I've been in a pretty tight situation financially, fairly stressed out about what I was going to do, and haven't been eating the greatest. I just got a full-time job a couple days ago, which is a blessing no longer being so reliant on a job that is on-call, so things will hopefully change. :D

My hair grew 5.5 inches from June-October which is 4 months (I realized after creating a thread titled 5 inches in 5 months, lol, not so good with the math I am).
That puts me at about 1.37 per month. :cheese:

Yesterday was my half of the month mark (for taking pictures) and some of my locks are already at the inch mark! Seems to be that half of it grows during the first part of the month and the rest catches up during the next part. Hair is funny. :)

Generally speaking, 1/2 inch per month, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. I haven't been measuring very precisely the past couple of months, but I have been taking pictures and my growth rate is pretty good right now, possibly more than 1/2 inch per month. I've been taking biotin, MSM and evening primrose oil supplements, on top of (trying to) eat right and exercise, all that stuff.

I get about half an inch a month...I really like my hair, this is the only bad thing about it.
I'm more than happy with the colour, thickness and texure, so I wouldn't change one of those for more growth.

But more growth would be nice, so I'm taking vitamins, drink alot of rooibos tea, and I'm trying the Monostat treatment right now, so far no more extra growth.

We make an awesome sun tea at my house that includes Rooibos tea, and I try to drink 2 large cups of that everyday. Also I take adult gummi vitamins. :D I avoid using blowfryers and such but I do dry my hair in the sun when I can.

Other than that, I'm not sure if it's anything except genetics. I tried taking Biotin for a bit but it didn't really seem to do anything. I have no idea if my growth has increased or not as I didn't pay attention to how much my hair grew before I joined LHC. I think I'll start documenting the growth week by week.

Currently around .5" per month, but I've recently changed my hair care routine, in addition to the diet/fitness changes I've made in the last 6 months. I'm hoping it starts growing more quickly, I have some new growth I need to grow out... it's currently frizzing about near my crown.:?

1000 mcg of Biotin every day to every other day (gave me rash & acne so had to stop), overnight Castor Oil (1 tblsp, diluted with tea tree oil) one to two times a week, and 1-2 minute scalp massages every couple of days with a mini vibrating hand-held massager (BE GENTLE! It gave me a headache and nausea when I pressed to hard at the beginning) increased my growth to over 1" a month. I don't know what my growth rate was before, but now that I've gotten lazy with my routine my growth has noticeably slowed down.

I decided a couple of months ago to start growing my hair long, I knew it grew quickly but I had never measured it before, so the first time I measured was on 6th Nov 2011 it was 57cm (22.4"). I trimmed off a tiny bit of the ends two weeks ago so when I measured it today 20th Dec 2011 it was 62cm (24.4").
I measured it 5 times because it seemed a little insane to have 2" of growth in 44 days even with a trim.

So I'm pretty sure my hair grows more than 1.5" in a month - which is a discovery I'm quite excited about! I can't wait to have long hair :)

I think my hair goes in spurts. One month it will be less than half an inch and another month could be up to an inch. It tends to stall when I need a trim.. I think. I'm starting to measure my hair every month so I can actually know more accurately

vindo
July 19th, 2012, 04:55 PM
Mine grows 0.7" a month. Against popular believe, this is actually fast, considering the monthly average is 0.4" (not 1/2 inch, which happened by converting 1cm wrongly)

The fastest possible growth would be around one inch. It is not biologically possible for your hair bulb and follicles to produce faster growth, they would be bleeding. ;)

Reports of much faster growth are most likely either measuring mistakes or fairy tales.

My hair used to grow a reliable .75 of an inch per month for most of my life. Since menopause, it's down to .5 to .6 inches a month. This may be temporary, but I don't mind. It's still a good growth rate, and my need to trim the fast-growers is less frequent.

For exactly one year as I was growing from APL I only did S&D, and I grew 9 inches overall, but hairs around the face and shorter layers didn't seem to grow much, so the layers spread out comically. My layers have always increased their width like that.

Lost some hair mostly around my hairline during a stressful event 6 months ago, some regrowth is only 2 inches, some is 4.5 inches, and there is everything in between. Makes for a great halo on windy days.

So I am going to say it grows from 0.33" to 0.75" per month... I would swear each follicle is variable.

I'm excited because I just measured my hair today and it grew an inch of hair since June 14th!

Since late February until now, I have grown about four inches of hair. So it seems I have growth spurts every other month or so.

This is the record I have been keeping since I joined LHC (I forgot to measure in April and May, but I think my growth slowed down a little those months).

February 24th 2012. 43 inches long

March 18th 2012. 44 inches long

June 14th 2012. 46 inches long

July 19th 2012. 47 inches long

In the warm months, my hair tends to grow around 1.5-2inches per month. But, in the winter it's about 1-1.5 tops. Ideally, I think vitamin D from the sun has a lot to do with it, esp since moving to a colder state...ekk!

Hehe I think jojo perhaps means 6" a year if she's talking about a normal growth rate. Though, 6" a month sure would be amazing!

After a year of no trims I gained exactly 6 inches of length, so I grow the exact average of 1/2" a month.
I remember a time when it only grew 1/4"/month because I was being very unhealthy in my lifestyle, and I remember being able to rev it up to almost an inch with too many calories and several protein shakes a day. But I'm really happy with average, and it's good to know how much I can cut off and still maintain my length. :)

1cm a month, every month, without fail. Strange thing is it that it takes 3 weeks to get to 1/2 cm then chucks out the other 1/2 cm in week 4. It must take 3 weeks to rev itself up!!!

recently it has been growing really slow, as compared to before where i could get 1.5-2cm per months. i considered that to be on the higher side of average. but now, barely 1cm per month and definitely not due to breakage issues, my hair has never been healthier in my entire life. but i surpassed my original goal length already by far, so i dont feel like stressing it. as long as i dont start shedding like crazy im alright.

It depends on the season. Between November and April it almost doesn't grow at all. Barely a centimeter a month. I don't even try growing during that period, I just micro-trim and maintain. In the summer and especially autumn it grows about 2 cm a month. An average would be 1.5 a month. That's probably because of breakage, though, and not because your hair isn't growing from the scalp. :) This poll refers to the growth from the scalp, not overall length gain.

My hair can grow as little as 1/4 inch per month to as much as 1 1/2 inches a month depending on my diet and supplements. 1/4 inch is when I'm eating low protein (40-50g a day) and taking no supplements. 1 1/2 is when I'm eating 150g of protein a day and taking hair and nail supplements. I'm currently in the middle, eating 100g of protein a day, and taking some low strength hair and nail supplements. I get about 1 inch a month this way.

Sorry for my late reply, I haven't visited this thread in ages. I must say I have no idea when it comes to all virgin hair. My brain is still in sleep coma so it's not working properly either, though.

As an update to the topic of the thread, since I've actually been properly measuring my hair growth from demarkation, my hair seems to be growing 1.2 or 1.25 cm a month now. I've been taking supplements (multivitamin, collagen, D3+K2) for a little over a month and I eat relatively healthy in general. I do occasional scalp massages with or without oil. Nothing I do causes a major difference in my hair growth, only some millimetres. I don't experience stalls or growth spurts.

I started FTL in January. It's now mid-March and I am 1 inch and a bit over FTL, so growth is going at 1/2 inch a month, just like normal and average.

I have to tell you, I have gone back to chin twice since I was here and once from hip to BSL (damage, dye, perms, henna, the lot) and I have *never* expected "spectacular" growth. Never ever. It is what it is, and I accepted it, I mean, that's the best you can do while giving your hair the best care it can get. Eat well, take care of it, that's all you can do.

And you'll get there in the end, if you are patient enough!

My husband and I are both trying to get our hair to grow out fast. I'm going to get some Rooibos tea and drink it 2x a day. I'm also going to use castor oil and I'm planning to make a tea rinse from Usnea, rosemary, cedarwood, horsetail (for the silica) to use daily. I may add horsetail to the Rooibos tea. I might also add cedarwood oil to the castor oil. I will do these things without fail, I'm not too sure about hubby. I also take multivitamins with minerals and D3 supplements, living in the far north.

How often would you recommend using the oil massaged into the scalp?

I've been getting back 1-1 1/2 inch per month. The lowest I ever got was .75 inches. I don't know about the hair genetics too well in my family, but there's nothing that I know of that says that I should have a faster rate of growth than average. I don't trim but could be either. Measurement is "tricky" - which hair do you measure? But I think change in routine due to a move was the root cause. Climate change, i.e. the >20° F increase in average temperature, every, single, day (and night) I'm sure played no role :p. Currently in the middle of the most massive shed in (my) recorded history.
