I just bought a beautiful (Bella's Breaking Dawn Wedding) hair comb... but I don't know what to do with it. What styles can I wear this gorgeous hair comb with? It's metal and fairly heavy. I only own 3 hair combs and honestly don't know what to do with them! LOL, please help!

I have a rather heavy comb like this and I wore it like this

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6185/6125902324_7b2ff7a744_m.jpg

I think from memory I put it up like a chopstick bun (or pencil bun) and then twisted it around 90 degrees - stuck the comb in the side and voila!

It's a copy of Rose's comb from Titanic. They are going for a pretty penny on ebay at the moment (last one I saw went for $260 or so) but I bought mine through Gumtree (aussie classifieds) for $45 from a lovely girl who was going to wear it for her wedding and then changed her colour scheme. It's absolutely gorgeous in person and nice and weighty without being ridiculous.

If you go over to the Conventional Products and Hair Accessories forum - there are a few threads on them.

I normally wear mine as ornaments rather than actual support - in braids, or in updos held with pins. Combination braids (http://www.dreamweaverbraiding.com/braid_examples/braid_examples_combos.htm) are particularly good for that, if you tuck the comb where the braids meet, or in the top of Rapunzel's Resource's French braid variation (rapunzelsresource.wordpress.com/2010/07/21/french-braid-variation/). Otherwise, you can tuck them into pretty much anything you can hold with pins. :)

Here's the French braid variation with a Titanic butterfly comb:

That's a beautiful comb! I think it would look really nice tucked into the top of a gibson tuck.

Some hair combs (perhaps not this one, but try it out -- I'm thinking primarily of side combs) are meant to be worn inserted the opposite direction of the hair, usually toward the hairline. If it works like that, it should lock in place a bit.

Would it work to hold a French Twist in place? It is a beautiful comb. I would like to wear hair toys like this also, but I'm also at a loss. If it were me, I think I would schedule some time with my mirror and camera and try out a bunch of styles and take pictures to compare what works with what doesn't and what looks I like the best.

Feel free to share some of those pictures with us if you opt to try my suggestion ;)

WARNING!! There is a seller on eBay who has been selling copies of the Titanic Rose hair comb for $100 buy it now. I purchased two and I am in the UK. 4 weeks later and they have still not arrived from Italy. The seller claims to have sent them. Even surface they would not take 4 weeks from one EU country to another.

I was alerted by a USA buyer who saw I had bought the combs from my feedback. She said she had been in contact with 2 other buyers who ordered the combs and none of them had yet recieved theirs either. Another person orderd a "heart of the ocean" pendant and that has not appeared either.

The USA buyers were told they had been sent surface and would take 6-8 weeks but are getting very nervous.

The seller suddenly took down all their listings a couple of days ago.

Time for a Paypal dispute I think.

There's a BIN on eBay offering the Titanic Comb for something like $335-ish - these combs have taken on a cult life of their own. Might be able to put your kids through college on them! :o(

I've got one purchased before the insanity began - a J Peterman - and I thought it was expensive then. Around $100, I think? It's been so long now, I don't remember. I'm hoping I still have the paraphernalia that came with it - certificate of authenticity - "Yes, this is a real fake!" - J Peterman box. It's somewhere, maybe....

As for the original poster - This comb would look lovely on a flipped bun. Wind your hair as you would for a cinnamon bun, form the bun and then turn it up (flip it). Looks a bit like a French twist with a cool bun on top.

Easy to do, comfortable to wear and shows combs off beautifully!

OOPS! The one BIN on eBay is $399, or best offer. YIKES!

I see this comb is the Dawn Bridal comb worn by Bella, right? The style that was in the listing was pretty, though they were using it for the veil.

Most combs like this tend to be more useful for decorative purposes than for functional - though they do assist in holding the hair, just not necessarily up to the job on their own.

The image provided of the recently acquired hair comb shows some tines to be relatively thick and some to be thinner (the teeth is what I'm referring to) with coiled metal at the top of those teeth. Those teeth may very well end up pulling hair a trace.

A hair comb is placed into a hair style at the end of styling. Make SURE it's in firmly that it won't fall out. The head design tends to be the heavier area of the comb, so make sure the teeth are really secured in. Some wiggle can be allowed for, but not overly loose.

If you want to hold a bit of hair up with it, such as some hair on the side of the head, you take a strip of hair not overly thick, and draw it back. Then the comb is inserted essentially upside down with design facing toward your head. You dig the teeth in a bit, and at the last moment flip the comb turning it right side up and do a last moment insertion to complete the insertion of the hair comb. This will typically hold hair. It can take a bit of practice to determine the correct amount of strip of hair to work with. Also, in my experience, the hair tends to fall a bit during the day and the adornment can thereby fall out or become loose, such that I have to either opt to withdraw it for the remainder of the day, or re-set it a few times throughout the day.

I hope this helps a bit. Enjoy your new acquisition. It is pretty.

A lot of more modern combs are now being designed with the twisty metal on the top portion of teeth, as is shown in this comb image. I find them to really pull hair when it's on every single tooth of a given hair comb.

I would LOVE to work for hair ornament design companies as a consultant because so much stuff just doesn't work as they advertise.

As an antique and vintage comb collector, I can safely offer that this purchased hair comb shown by the OP is definitely a decorative hair comb, not a functional hair comb, and thus not entirely intended to hold hair in an updo, for example.

Peggy E., I thought you gave the best advice about this to someone else, and that was that if you do a bun that starts with a topsy tail, you can tuck the comb in behind the topsy part (behind the pony holder) and it holds well. I found this to work well.

Now that I've got this beautiful comb, I'm trying to replicate the hairstyle that goes with it ;0) I'd appreciate your help.

This is my approximation of the style from a picture that shows Bella's little braids and the comb, but the bun is covered by her wedding veil.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/Allo_Worm/BWH04.jpg

I've just come across a video of Bella's hair without the veil and I'd like to know how to create the bun. Is it a braided bun, do you think? Here are two images:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/Allo_Worm/BWH01.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/Allo_Worm/BWH02.jpg

And judging my this image, I should be able to create the style as her hair is the same length as mine, maybe a little shorter.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/Allo_Worm/BWH03.jpg

Please help! I want to wear this style when I see the movie on Friday.

I think it'll be great. I'll put up a tutorial for Bella's wedding hair when I have it figured out. I think the bun is braided, but there might be more than one braid in there.
