So I decided to actually dress up for a party tomorrow night and need to make my hair big. Like Bellatrix Lestrange big (note: that is not the costume)
How would you suggest I go about getting my hair looking like these:

with minimum teasing and damage? Mini braids left in overnight? My hair tries to get extra big sometimes anyway, so it shouldn't be completely non-doable, right?
I promise to post pictures of the results, of course :)

When I first saw the pictures I was thinking weird angled crimping... but if you want less damage, tiny braids left in over night, with extra hold hair spray, and then brush out, might work.

Agreed. Lots and lots of minibraids. :D

I would do these, but very, very small:

Sometimes I use tiny braids in my hair. By the time I get to the ends, the braid is so small that when I take it out, the last five inches of hair really just look like bad frizz. I have been meaning to try the snakewaves, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I love, love, love your links! Wish I could get my wild hair that big.

When you brush out the braids, flip your head over then back upright again. :D

Also - you might try pincurls. That will get high lift and bounce especially if you brush them out.

I am doing madhatter hair so I had already done some research for my super straight heavy hair and found this vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0piwbTivpDg), it is not a curly style but I the products that he used and they seem like they will do the job with a curling iron and heavy spray application. I am not so worried about using chemicals a couple times a year.

I tried this a week ago and it worked like magic. I sectioned my hair into 17 separate sections in no particular pattern and used 1 inch wide strips of fabric from an old tank top to weave my slightly damp hair around. I secured the sections with small rubberbands and let my hair set overnight. You can use a fan or a hair dryer to speed things up if you must. It was very comfortable to sleep in, though I suggest wrapping the hair in something to keep things neat. To get the biggest hair possible, I didn't use conditioner or rinse my hair with vinegar prior to setting it. Those two treatments weigh my hair down, make it too sleek, and make the drying process longer.

They do something similar for runways shows, but instead use hairpins instead of fabric, and a flat iron to set the hair. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTtmDiYIQQE

In the above video, the hair is brushed out, but to get a more defined pattern, the sections can just be broken up with your fingers.

To ensure that the volume and texture lasts all day and night, it would probably be best to use some sort of setting lotion on the damp hair before winding them up, and then lock in everything with hairspray once the hair is styled. When I did this to my hair, I brushed out all the sections out one by one and ended up with a magnificent afro just like Chaka Khan's hair back in the day. By day three, my hair was still full like an 80s perm even without the use of any hairspray. It probably would have lasted longer, but my roots needed some washing.

I really doubt mini braids will work out. They go limp way too quickly, and don't give that much volume in the first place.
