View Full Version : I Organized My Hair Stuff!

I finally got all of my long hair items organized. Previously everything was all over the house, in an oatmeal box, in my jewelry box, in a drawer, in a basket mixed with all sorts of cosmetics, and in my purse. So I gathered everything I had onto my bed, purged and sorted, and put all away into a large and a small container, and a basket on my dresser. During this process I also organized my cosmetics into a small plastic box for home use, and into one make-up bag to carry in my purse.

Here are the Before pictures:

All the stuff, ready to be sorted.
Notice the old oatmeal box, and the obligatory cat!

Among other items, here are henna and herbal hair care powders
(the only thing missing for my Lotus Powder Plus experimental concoction
is the Tulsi, which was on back order, but arrived today).

Some of the toys. I don't have a lot of toys (although I just recently purchased a
Flexi8, and am hoping for an octopus hair styx for Christmas!),
so I only have a small "toy box" to put them in.

My beloved tools: MP BBB, Ric Carpenter wood comb,
and my two faux horn combs (for wet detangling).
And some Better Botanicals Hair oil.

The new henna box to replace the oatmeal box.
In it are: henna, herbal hair powders, gloves, shower caps,
heat caps, Turbie towels, and applicator bottles.

My clean and organized dresser! Hair toys are in the purple box,
the make-up box is on top of that, the basket of other cosmetics,
little BBB cleaning brush and hair oil is behind the small mirror,
and the brushes and combs are right out in front. The only cosmetic
sitting out is my lip balm - I sometimes need that in the middle of the
night, so I keep where it's easy to find in the dark!

I am so happy to have this done. No more hunting around in a drawer for a hair toy. And now that my cosmetics are easy to find, I am taking better care of my face and wearing make-up!

Awesome! It looks like you really got it all together. :) What are those hairsticks in the third photo, in the bottom corner? They're beautiful.

That is great! I should try to do this as some point, though I don't have anywhere near as much as you. :) Organization always makes life so much easier and when it looks as pretty as what you have done that's even better. :D

I like the big tupper wear type tote I have one for my mary kay and they are a god sent. The hold a lot. I had to organize my hair stuff heated appliances and hair toys. I don't use my heated appliances and I got tired of them being plugged into my tiny bathroom. I went to the dollar store and got these treasure chest looking wooden boxes to put them in and the other two went towards hair toys.

I wish I was that organized.

I wish I was that organized.

Well I am not usually very organized! What got me started on this was watching this organizational TV show with a man named Peter Walsh. It was called "Enough Already!" His philosophy is to gather all the clutter in one place, then visualize how you would like the space (or in this case, the containers) to look. The you sort everything, purge things you don't want to be pitched or given away, then put back the things you want into the new space.

I did this first with my sewing stash, which was enormous and horribly in disarray. It took me a while for that, but the results were so satisfying. Now my sewing stash is sorted in labelled bins, and I can find anything I need at a moment's notice. It saves a lot of time because I'm not wandering around aimlessly, trying to find something that was once buried in a mound of other stuff. So I decided to do this process with hair stuff and eventually my sheet music (which I am really dreading!). But the outcome, being able to find what you want when you want it, and to have things neatly put away, is so worth the effort.

Congrats! Isn't it satisfying and refreshing to see everything where it's supposed to be? It's short lived around my house, but it sure does feel good while it lasts! :)

What an inspiration. I was going to start a thread about how others store their hair stuff. I'm going to do this my next day off. Thank you Tea Lady!

I do this sort of organizing with many things. I need to do it with my entire room now since I living out of boxes. I have no dressers, cabinets or anything like that to put possessions in right now. I organize my clothes, my magazines, various printouts and notes (I rolled the sheets of paper up and rubber band them), my shoes among other things. If I did not I would have so much trouble finding anything.

Tea Lady, that looks great!! I need to get my things organized like that. I have a terrible tendency to carry things throughout the house and leave them where I finish with them. My hair toys in particular tend to take sightseeing trips from room to room!

How cool! I unfortunately do not have a dresser... :( So I can't have all my hair toys and brushes right there for me in my room. I'm glad you have that privilege, though.
