View Full Version : Anyone feel like their hair is not growing or growing very slowly?

I feel like the only one, i see so many new people join and within weeks they have progress photos, not to mention regular growth progress pics everyday. I feel like my hair is not growing at all, in fact i dont think it has grown the last 2 months at all, how dissapointing.

Just needed to vent! I feel like i have been so patient and yet my hair has decided to relax and stop growing for a while.

Anyone one in this boat and want to share?

hm. it might be growing for the newbies all of a sudden because they are changing what they've always done and giving their hair some oomph and it's feeling like growing.

i did have to cut off 7 inches last month for my surgery and i've been down in the dumps lately because i realized maybe i didn't need to chop off that much and i miss having it. i'm about to measure mine today but i'm thinking it's not growing at all, either.

Me Me Me Me!!!

I feel like my hair grows soo slowly. I know that it has been damaged in the past, and i have not always taken such good care of it, but I try and haven't cut it at all for 3.5 years and very rarely before that for the past 10 or so years...in my mind I should be at least classic by not, but, no...my longest few hairs are waist on a good day.

I have PCOS, which slows the growth and thins my hair. I think that if I watch my diet better, perhaps take the suppliments that i know I should, this would help...

I go through what I call spurts. My hair just came out of a 7month stall, and is now growing an inch a month. Some of us are simply just spurt growers and although it's frustating we kinda just have to deal with it :(

Hang in there! My hair grows in spurts and stalls. I've gotten used to it, so when it doesn't grow more than maybe 1/4 inch in 3 months, I don't get upset.

I believe in trimming. There's nothing that will bring on a growth spurt quicker than lopping off bad, dried out ends.

Yep. I feel like that right now. I think that my hair growth has been stalling for whatever reason. Maybe I got it trimmed too much, maybe there really is something to the GM bangs thing, maybe stress has taken over... I just don't know.

 Maybe I need to get back to taking the One-A-Day Women's multivitamin.

My hair has always grown slowly, I just try to take good care of it so I wouldn't have to cut out any more than necessary for neat hemline... I try not to be impatient, it has become more easy now that the newbie enthusiasm has gone. :silly:I try to accept my hair as it is, slow growth and all :meditate:

Something that helps is keeping stats of your hair. I take measurements of length and thickness on a decently routine basis. It does take awhile to develop a base for knowing what your hair normally does, but it does allow you to look at your hair and go, "Even though I don't feel it, it DID grow half and inch last month". For me this helps because I generally KNOW that it is growing even if I feel there is no progress.

I'm at tailbone right now and it is frustrating because my hair doesn't look longer month after month, even though I know it is growing. This is do to a "flip-up" of the ends that occurs when they reach your butt. I personally know I'm three inches from classic if my hair is pulled straight, but if you just looked at it you would think I was six or more. So I keep measurements so I know that it really is growing.

I'm right there with you. I've been stuck at 30" since January. I don't know what else to do, but it's incredibly frustrating to see another girl I know who chopped her hair off to her ears and then it hit her waist 2 years later. I *wish* I could get growth like that.

I'm a spurt grower, too, and for some reason I can't fathom, my hair grows fast only when it's already long. Even when I had highlighted, frayed ends, my hair grew very fast when it was past BSL. When I'm hovering between shoulder and APL, as I am currently, my growth seems nonexistent. The only solution seems to be the perpetual peacock twist in a claw clip.

Drinking Ensure and taking Biotin seems to help, if only minimally, so I'm keeping that up as long as I need the extra help. I'm also doing a brown Henna once every two months to coat my ends. I have eight inches to go until my first goal (Waist), and I keep telling myself that a year from now I will be there.

Argh, yes! If it wasn't for my progress photos over the years (yes, years) I wouldn't think my hair was growing at all. But it is, it's just taking it's sweet time.

I'm right there with you. It doesn't feel like my hair's growing at all. I even started the MN last week to maybe boost my growth. It's so frustrating because this is the length it usually gets too and then starts looking ratty. In fact, I think the only time I was past this length was after my son was born. I've never managed to grow it any longer.

Just wanted to add that I quit taking measurements to look for growth because the same thing would happen to me. One month it would be 34.25 inches long. The next month it would be 33.5 inches long. I know that I have some splitting and breakage, but I don't think it's bad enough to cause a 3/4-inch loss in length. I've gone back to what I did in the beginning, which is getting length pictures taken at regular intervals. I used to do it once a year, now I'm doing it once every six months.

I totally feel like my hair isn't growing either, and it's so frustrating! In my case, I think it's a combination of measurement error, breakage as the ends were dyed, and my perception that my hair was longer than it really was before I started growing it (I had recently had quite a big trim, but I still thought it was longer).

This could be my topic. I've felt depressed about my growth for awhile now. I'm not measuring for a couple months. And trying to love what I have. I know how you feel.

Me! I am among the ranks of the disgruntled!

Mine hasn't grown since September. :( I'm taking Biotin and a Zinc and lots of other things, but the damned hair won't budge. The hair on my legs, however, could strangle people.

I need four more inches to reach waist length, but I dread to think how long that'll take.

Yes my hair grew an inch in the past year and a half so I am basically at terminal length already I think which is pretty depressing, so your not the only one!

I know exactly how you feel, my hair has not grown at all in 2 months, and i measure every month. it is so upsetting to not see even a half inch growth. weird, my hair used to grow so fast up to January when it slowed the growth process, i wonder why? haven't changed much of my routine, except that i changed conditioners, but i doubt that changing conditioners could have caused my hair to stop growing. Very weird.

I don't think mine is growing in length at all these days. It was end of tailbone length when I took a shot of it last year in November, and some strands are a couple of inches beyond that, but not all, so I think I've reached terminal. One of my mum's friend reached terminal at BSL, I kid you not. She never cut her hair because she said that was perfect for her, and she saved a load on hairdressers. Just like her to look on the bright side. :D

Yes, but only because I'm hovering in an awkward stage until the rest of my henna grows out. Now that I'm at the point where half is new growth and the other half colored, it doesn't seem to go anywhere at all. It's like its taunting me with this two toned look...

nappywomyn

I realized one of the reasons it seems like my hair is growing sooo slowly is because I cut off all of my colored hair over a year or so, so, a year into the growing, I actually had hair SHORTER than what I started with. *sigh* Another year gone, and it finally feels a little longer than what I started with, but it's still so SHORT. *sigh*

I figure in two more years, I might quit my whinging.

Shrinkage, too. I measure mine stretched so I know it's growing (not to mention it's dyed so I can see the regrowth) but it looks about the same. When 1a grows an inch, it looks an inch longer.

Yes, I so know the feeling. I have the same problem as spidermom, where I'll measure, and my hair will actually measure SHORTER than it was the month before-- even though it will feel the same or longer! It's very frustrating. I've just started measuring wet, since pulling my hair straight still doesn't give me an accurate measurement.

I've also commited to wearing my hair up for 30 days, so I don't think about it so much, because it will be up and protected. In addition, I'm trying to get back to doing oil deep treatments regularly, as I've noticed an increase in breakage when I stopped doing them.

Finally, I think I need to start taking MSM again (I keep forgetting to get more!), and stop taking my Hair, Skin, and Nails vitamin. It has biotin, which my body does not seem to like megadoses of. It MAY be helping with shedding, but not signifigantly; my hair isn't growing anyway; and it's breaking out my skin. ENOUGH!

I know what you mean.:( My hair was growing almost an inch a month for a while, now it's sticking at 32", but I have been under some stress lately and that in itself will make my hair fall out and my growth rate slows down!

Hi everyone, My hair seems tohave slowed right down too. I think it may be because of it is the colder winter months now here on Oz. I dont ever seem to have split ends so its not breaking just not making any progress. I jsut hope that it will make up for it all when the weather gets warmer. It has only grown about 1 inch in 3 months.

I certainly hear you there. When I wash my hair it feels much longer than it did a year back, but when it's dry and has shrunk up it looks barely longer than it did when I found the LHC back in October and started measuring my locks. I am looking forward to the days when my hair is around tailbone length and pulling some of the shrinkage out.

I'm of two minds about it myself. Really mixed feelings. I want the curls, but I know there will come a time when I'll have to choose. I'm hoping I can stretch them out as long as they can go and still be curls, but at some point they will get too heavy and fall out.

I started growing last yr in sept, chopped it up to my chin to get most of the razored ends off.

I had fantastic growth in oct-march then it just seemed to stop at my shoulders:(.

I have started to massage my scalp and noticed im getting thicker hair.I wont complain but I dont need thickness just growth lol.

I did notice when I was consuming lots of soy prod thats when my hair grew so it back to soy for my:).

Dh(who is the most unobservant man on the planet:eek:)did tell me the other day that my hair looked a little longer:cheese:so hopefully its going to start growing:D.

You and I joined at the same time and I am right there with ya. I haven't posted any progress pictures because my hair doesn't look like it's grown at all. It can be frustrating looking at everyone else's progress, but it is also encouraging. It just might take us a lot longer to get there, but eventually we will.

Ahhh, yeah - shrinkage DEFINITELY doesn't help - it makes it almost pointless to even try to compare growth over 'short' periods of time (anything less than 8 weeks, really) as how I've been wearing my hair and the current humidity can make me 'gain/lose' up to 3 inches! :thud:

Yeah, I'm of two minds about it too. My hair isn't truly 'curly' its more kinkywavy. And the longer it gets, the more frizzywavy it seems to be. It's going to be interesting watching how the texture changes as it gets longer.

Oh Im so with you all. My hair doesnt seem to grow at all I had been getting frequent dustings to let the layers catch up, and to thicken up my very thin hemline. I have basically had one dusting in over 7 months and it seems my hair is still the same length. It isnt breakage because all my shed hairs are long.

I think its more mental for me. The "watched pot doesnt boil" thing. I will see roots, they become quite obvious, and still look at the length like "Its not growing!" then I measure and get pleasantly surprised. I just jumped an inch (25-26) and was like :D.

I'm feeling the same right now. I've always had short hair, so my growth was a lot more distinctive and easy to notice then. Now that my hair is longer, I feel like it's stayed the same for ages! I'm thinking it's because I've stuck with the same haircut for awhile when usually I change it up every couple months. What has helped is looking at pictures-my ones from March show that my hair was much shorter. I don't measure because I know I would obsess. I'll just go by photos.

sigh. I keep saying I won't measure, but I get curious for a "number" and it always seems that the tape measure and the body landmarks differ.

I'm wondering a couple things since I don't keep a blog very well, or note measurements:
do I always have non braid waved hair? it is always either wet or dry on a measure?
did i trim and forget? (yes, i'm that flaky sometimes)

I'm also at the point where I'm starting to understand tall members' complaints about using landmarks over the tape measure. Being short and short waisted, lower mid back to classic was a few years for me, after I got serious about it.
now my next mini-goal is fingertip, and suddenly I'm waiting, and waiting because my legs are long.
the number on dry, slightly waved hair last weekend was 43 inches.
I have a post from a year ago on a different board with 42 inches.
I had a 1 inch trim (first pro trim in years), and I've been aggressive with s&d.

I'm going to blissfully go on with "well, the tape measures themselves were different and I've really cut off a few inches."

Yeah, mine is kind of stuck too. It's been 38 inches now for a good seven months or so, when I usually averaged about an inch a month previously. It has gotten harder to wash, but it really isn't gaining any apparent or numerical length. I think it might be breaking off. Almost every single hair has a split. I should just bite the bullet and cut off 5 or 6 inches, but... that's... so much.

I sure feel this way right now too!! I haven't measured in awhile because I don't want to be frustrated, heheh -- I'm in that BSL to Waist no-man's-land that takes forever to get through. I think it's helpful during these times to just put it in updos a lot and try to forget about it.

My growth has slowed down quite a bit from .8in to less than .5in a month. It's summer and I keep reading all these posts about people who are getting growth spurts in the summer months that I clearly don't get. Not sure why since I've been taking much better care of myself in these last three months, AND taking my vitamins.

Blargh. At least it's not a total stall. I have to remember that I'm lucky I get at least a little growth every month and hope that it speeds back up again during the winter months.

Mine seems to be taking ages to reach BSL, which is always the most frustrating growth period for me, its like 27" on me to get to a full BSL. Yet from past experience once I have got there my hair just takes off as waist is only another 3" once i reach there.

I agree with Lora multi vits do help, as do kelp and the monistat.

Mine feels like it's not growing at all. I have indigo'd hair and naturally light hair, so when the roots come in I can determine my growth over a time. Well, my roots are seemingly just CRAWLING in. Ugh. And I do take a multivitamin...I eat very healthy (all organic, vegetarian, high protein). I'm at a loss for what else to do.

My longest hairs are at waist if I pull it straight, and hold my chin up. But when not pulled straight it has an inch or two to go to reach waist. Doesn't seem to be growing, or only very slowly. I wonder if I'm too old sometimes, and if terminal length is shorter for older people. Maybe I'm at or almost at terminal length. :(

Does the growth rate usually remain constant, and then suddenly stop at terminal length, or does it gradually slow down to zero?

Definitely me. I hear that summer is supposed to be the time for hair growth and while it's grown a bit, it hasn't grown much. My hair is thinner than it used to be and grows much slower. And I'm at shoulder length, ladies, I'd love to be at waist or mid back like some of you!

It's probably because I lopped it off so short (about neck length) that it seems to be growing so slowly, but URGH I was hoping for another inch by now! I'm aiming for BSL - and it will take a long time to get there too - but I'd like to get it back to waist or even TB length eventually. It is frustrating waiting for it to grow... just be glad you didn't mess yourself up like me and have to grow it out from short, that most of you already have long hair!

I agree that BSL is a frustrating grow period and but it will be a hop, skip and jump to waist. I always seem to get to this point and then a hairdresser cuts off my good work. My hair is definitely growing and it's 1.5 inches past my bra strap now but of course I have a huge spring factor. Once I get to BSL curly, I will feel that I have made real progress. I've got a short torso so it feels like it's only about three inches until I reach waist straight. I will definitely get there by the end of the year.

My major frustration is that I want my layers to grow. The Dakerine Cream and hair vitamins are certainly helping. My hair is growing but my hair is really thin because of the shorter layers. I've decided that I will grow my hair to curly waist with two microtrims in between so losing about half an inch of growth and then keep on trimming until the layers catch up. I still want layers but longer layers. It's a long growing process for me and did I mention I hate putting my hair back ... sigh! I keep muttering to myself short term loss ie putting my hair back for long term gain ...
