Would like to see pics of diffferent shades of blond. Ash versus Golden, for instance. I will post mine when I get a chance.

I think my hair is a mixed up blonde... reddish-golden blonde with darker ashy-ness in the under layer... but I have also been called ginger... and people have said to me that I'm not blonde... I am seriously confused about my colour!

Before I colored mine, it had been getting quite red from the iron in my water.

Going by the picture in your album, you are definitely blonde. I do see ash in a few places and golden in others, so overall I'd guess you are neutral. I would not call you a redhead, and you are definitely not brunette either. You have pretty hair :)

http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/zz17/Blaircorneliabass/10-21-2011045525PM.jpg
My brother, forefront, turned to a medium brown soon after this was taken; my sister, holding the potato, was usually a strawberry blonde; me, the baby, started out with platinum and gradually darkened, but it was always in the ash or neutral range. I have the same hair as my dad, which I can see an ash tone in his in this picture.

I've always identified as a strawberry blonde and, like many of you, the lighting conditions change up my hair color. In natural light it seems to be mostly blonde while interior lighting seems to make it mostly red. Someone once told me it's honey blonde, which I quite rather like, as honey comes in many shades...all of which are in my hair. :)

So pretty. You totally have my dream hair color. However, were I to actually go for it, the damage and upkeep it would take to make it look that way would be too much for my lazy self. I will content myself to admire from afar.

Shona I'm actually surprised by how little your hair has changed. In the younger picture you look like a warm light golden blonde (almost strawberry) and in your current pictures it looks like a medium beige or neutral blonde. Very interesting, as most people here go from a platinum blonde to a darker blonde. Not everyone, of course, but the majority it seems.

I think it depends on the "true color" of the platinum blonde hair of the child. A lot of little kids of super blonde hair, but if you look closely it's often darker (even just a tiny bit) at the roots. Generally this darkens significantly to a dark blonde/light brown color. Oksana's hair was really extremely white blonde at the roots, therefore has only darkened a small amount.

This isn't proven at all as far as I know, but is just what I've noticed from seeing a whole ton of baby pictures of friends/family. It'd be interesting to see if any of the other blondes have followed this rule though!

Interesting theory, uptosomeone. I would also say it depends on how long you were super blonde. Honestly, Oksana's is the only one I can see that had actually white blonde hair (level 12) and she had it up till she was a teen. Most others had platinum hair (level 11) and probably only while they were a young child. Going through puberty always seems to darken hair by 2-3 levels so Oksana is now a level 10 and those of us who were level 10-9 turned 8-6.

That's my mathematical theory anyway, even though I am not mathematical at all. :)

Here is a good level chart. (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_sXI8Dr0DFV0/RqW9BPXfDUI/AAAAAAAABv4/Uk4X5RRyH3c/s1600/The+Level+bobble+heads990.jpg)

I wouldn't call it "light ash", I don't think it's light enough, nor cool enough. It's very warm colored hair. :) If it's brown or blonde in different lighting maybe you could call it blondette, like a mix of blonde/brunette. Otherwise I would go with the aforementioned light golden brown/honey brown.

EDIT: As for me, no picture but I'm about a Level 8 by that chart. I used to be blonder - my favourite party trick until I first got my hair cut at age 7 was to grab my ends, touch them to my roots and show everyone how much darker my hair had got, since otherwise no one would believe me.

Lol yeah not everyone's hair changes at puberty. There's a lot of people whose hair doesn't change at all from birth; my friend's hair has always stayed the same light-medium brown that it is today. But most people I know, especially who started out with platinum blonde, don't darken until going through puberty, for whatever reason.

I was only white blonde between ages 1-2, from then on I was a level 11 or 10 and then after puberty I darkened to a 7, but if I get enough sunshine it will turn to a mix of 8, 9 with a few streaks of 10. :)

Clairol Nice and Easy used to have a good chart for hair colors for seeing the difference between ash, neutral, and golden, but they strangely turned them all into terrible computer graphic images that aren't useful at all. But you could still use the pictures on the boxes they use to give you an idea.

Actually, IME, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to hair darkening (well, other than genes, of course). Dark vs light roots don't really seem to play much of a part in knowing if hair will darken, in reality. To wit: there are blondes on both sides of our family.

My father and brother were both blond as children. Dad was still very light blond in photos of him as a mid-teen, but my brother's hair had already darkened quite a bit by then. Both had similar roots. My hair is about like theirs is root-wise. Mine's still quite light.

My daughter's hair is very dark blonde, blondette if you will. She started out very light however, as did her aunt (dh's sister). Both had roots that weren't much darker than their strands, but both are now quite a bit darker.

Yep, I do know a girl who has stayed platinum blonde (maybe level 11 or so) throughout her life and she is in her early 20s now.

My mom was blonder than I was as a little kid, but she turned to medium brown by age 9 or 10 and stayed that way (well, now she has gray in there and dyes it, but you get the idea).

I have to be out in the sun quite a bit for it to lighten more than half a level (unless I spray it with a hair lightener, then it lightens really easily).

I guess hair is just weird. :D

I definately agree!! It varies from blonde to blonde

When I was younger I was born with strawberry blonde hair and then it went to toehead white, by the time I hit puberty I went gold.

My mother was born with JET BLACK hair went toehead and then became a dark blonde. And all her siblings use to be toeheads and they are all now brown!

My sisters hair hasn't changed at all since she was a baby.

And my brother use to be a toehead as well now he's an ash.

Thank you! I love how many diff shades of blonde there are in the world its so rare to find 2 that are the same! My hair became much cooler in shade during the summer but I also switched to more natrual products durin the summer as well. Also had just washed my hair in the first pic, A lot of things vary with my hair shade. From washing time, to braiding, amount of oil in my hair, even lighting. Some of my hair is actually translucent which I think is a major factor too.

Name Springlets definately suits you,, upon looking at your profile pic hahaha:D

RoseofClare beautiful hair! I think it's interesting how in the first picture your hair looks more ash/cool and the second it is much warmer, at least the length is. It's just what this thread is for! :D

Yes, I was just looking up Adele and what people would call her hair color and most of them came up with lots of interesting names like ginger biscuit and such. Obviously not straight up red or blonde, and I think that's exactly how most natural hair is- unique!

And lol thanks about my name. :)

This is probably the most accurate shot I have of my colour:

Again, mine is just about exactly the same color as yours, Schweedie, though yours is in much better shape.
