View Full Version : Pantene made my hair straight!

Ok, something weird just happened... I washed my hair as usual and since I was out of my Triple Nutrition leave-in I decided to leave a bit of my regular Pantene conditioner in. Then I airdried as usual and this is what happened:

I guess now I have a way to make my hair straight-ish with no heat:D But I still don't understand how this is possible?
Here's a better picture:

cones perhaps?
Maybe, but I've been using cones and this is the first time something like this happened...

Haaaa! That's one of my secrets. For the smooth look, I reach for something super coney and smooths everything down. When I want to pump up the curls I clarify and go with a light cone free product.

Which products do you usually use for that? I can't believe I haven't tried it earlier! I've had that conditioner for at least 6 months)))

I love L'oreal Mega Moisture from Sally's. It comes in a tub with the green lid. When I leave that on for about 20 minutes with a little heat, my hair is slick and much straighter. Mind you, this isn't going to look like you flat ironed it, but let it dry then hit it with a BBB. Healthy and smooth.

I have to try it! Thanks for sharing! Mine doesn't look like I flat ironed it either but it's still a lot straighter than my "real" hair)))

Nice! I used to use Pantene, and the coney goodness worked wonders for my coarse hair. It's gotten a bad rap here on LHC, so I'm glad to see that someone else used it with positive results. My hair is pretty poofy, and Pantene seems to help weigh it down some :)

I tried going cone-free and the tangles were just too much to deal with. So I found my old Pantene and it works much better than no cones for me:)

Pantene gives my hair a gummy coating; perhapse it is doing the same to yours in such a thin layer that it's making it straight? Just a thought.

I absolutly ADORE your waves in your avatar, by the way. :flower:

:hmm: I don't know, it feels pretty silky. Maybe I just can't feel it? Thank you for the compliment:flowers:

Pantene does that for me too. I thought I was a solid 1a hairtype until I went cone-free and discovered I actually have a very slight wave. With cones, I'm a 1a. Without, I'm a 1b.

I've noticed that cones - especially if I haven't used them in a long time - make my hair straighter.

Yep- cones weigh down waves and curls. I've always thought I had straight hair because I used coney products all my life until I came to LCH.

My hair with cones (and this is the first time after months of no cones- my hair is stick straight and flat with build up).

I agree. With something like Pantene my hair looks like 1b but if I use a volumizing shampoo with no conditioner, only shampoo, I'm a 1c.

Does it happen when you wash it out too? It only happened to me when I left mine in...

I've used pantene for years and used it for my hair typing. I wonder if I'm even wavier if I go no cone? I like all of your results. Mines still frizzy with it, but I haven't used it as a leave in. I'll try no cone eventually (still have too much Pantene left) and I guess I'll find out then. :)

hmmmm...the only thing I could find in my stash as a Pantene Conditioner was this...

http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=pantene+strengthening+lotion&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1024&bih=571&tbm=isch&tbnid=EVRB3hzIsQL8QM:&imgrefurl=http://www.poundland.co.uk/product-range/a-z/pantene-breakage-defence-strengthening-lotion/&docid=Rkofbz8E1sSx5M&imgurl=http://www.poundland.co.uk/images/2306/original/pantene-defence.jpg&w=500&h=500&ei=sniWTrbmEKXiiAL2rIjfDQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=157&sig=106313647610757595343&page=1&tbnh=119&tbnw=112&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0&tx=66&ty=58

....so I cwc'd with Tresemme Conditioner, Pantene shampoo, Tresemme Conditioner, (which I also found in my stash) then combed through the Pantene leave-in with a wide toothed comb. Now it is airdrying and probably won't be able to see the results until morning....

It was really strange not using my Garnier Fructis conditioner at all, but I wanted to give the Pantene leave in a fair shake.

Just before going to bed, it is still damp, but I thought I'd take a pic....

Same thing happened to me with Kerastase (scroll down in this thread http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=53516&highlight=kerastase+made+hair+straight )but it took a few weeks to have it happen, so there must be ALOT of cones in Pantene. Good to know if it's the look you do want however.

For me it does! It's probably because I'm on the straighter end of the spectrum. When I want it to be sleek and straight all I need to do is wash and condition with really slippery coney products. When it air dries, it air dries like I'm a 1b.

The only cone I see on my bottle is bis-aminopropyl dimethicone somewhere in the middle of the list. I decided I'm gonna use it every once in a while for a different look))

I did not like the "feel" of my hair today after putting that leave-in in last night. And I felt that my hair looked kind of "off" as well as feeling it. Too bad too, because our big bosses came for a breakfast meeting today and I totally forgot about it. So, I just tangle teased it and put it in an english braid to go to bed with. Hopefully, it will "feel" better and look better in the morning...if not cwc with triple nutrition for sure!

I have thick coarse hairs and Pantene is the only brand that will tame my stubborn hair when it gets too frizzy from the humidity or just "uncontrollable." I like how the "Ice Shine" makes my coarse hairs feel soft and more smooth, or relaxed and not pin straight but a more natural looking 1c ish bordering 2a hair. Oh and can I say it makes my hair feel like a 1a when I am rinsing out the conditioner in warm water. Oh how that feeling is so addicting. The Pantene straight hair line also works for me, but maybe because I'm a wavy and those who have 3a range texture might have a different experience with it. I don't care if Pantene is often referred to as the Devil's cocktail. I love it and it is a good "Frizz Fighter" for hair textures that are like a horses hair like mine.

Id day the cones straightened it.

Yup, Pantene is notorious for its "heatless straightening." I've used cones before and still do, but Pantene is in a class of its own. It's really incredible.
