View Full Version : A comb question

Hey you guys
:)
Recently I decided to follow up on some good advice from the community and bought a seamless saw cut comb, made of hard rubber, of the brand Hercules Sägemann.
But I have the idea that the comb actually snags and pulls more hairs out of my head than a nubby brush :S
I always start at the bottom of my hair, and keep combing upwards, so I am quite sure that this is not the problem. However, if you have any advice for me please help :) I do not want to cause any damage to my hair, especially since I am a non trimmer :P
Btw, the comb does feel rough in between the teeth.
Thanks in advance :kitten:

The Bodyshop sells wide-toothed wooden combs which seem to produce much less breakage for £3.

Of the Fae...Perhaps the comb needs to be filed to eradicate the rough edges?

If it is rough between the teeth try using a nail file or very fine sand paper to smooth it out. You don't want any roughness. I always do this if it is needed whenever I get a new horn, bone, wooden or whatever item, whether stick, fork or comb. Many years of happy use is worth a few minutes of simple care, in my opinion.

Honestly, my brushes work much better for me as well. I think it has something to do with the give in the bristles versus a comb, which is stiff. I get tons more breakage with a comb, no matter how gently I use it. I just figure everyone's hair prefers something different :flower:

I'll try filing it :)
Now I understand, I misinterpreted it as keeping up it's administration:P
But I have some sandpaper, so I should be able to get my comb to be smooth :)

I had to get used to using a comb after using a brush for years -- it takes longer to detangle, in my experience, and you have to be gentler.
Now I use a tangle teezer, which I think reduces a lot of damage for me.
Some people finger comb, which is probably the most gentle way to detangle.
There's no holy grail, so experiment and see what works for your hair best. :)

I'm so glad someone else asked this! I've always used brushes and have the best luck with more supple tines (though not bristles!) over fewer hard ones like with a comb. I was starting to really boggle at how so many people seemed to be all for just combing. I swear combs manufacture tangles in my hair. I need to try a tangle teaser...

I have the tangle teezer that I think is better for me than the brush...but I'm not sure cause' that sound it makes!!! It sounds like I'm ripping so much hair out!! It scares me a little!
I would love to get a bone or wooden comb to try out though, I'll have to remember the sandpaper advice.

BabyRay, I'm pretty sure it makes that noise because of the hollow space between the tines and the rest of the body.
I was watching a video review on youtube of the TT, and someone had taken off the back because she said it was less loud that way. Maybe you could try that and see what you think?
