I happened to mention my twist on Spidermom's bun at one point and was asked to post a picture. Thanks to the lovely Mods who have fixed the file upload problem I've finally gotten a picture posted in my album showing my almost vertical version of Spidermom's Bun That Stays (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=123):

This is one of my go-to buns. I wear it at least part of almost every day since I learned to make it. Sometimes I do it the regular, horizontal way, often I rotate it around a bit and wear it in a nearly vertical manner. I don't usually wear it completely vertical, as that has some tendency to pull, which the horizontal and off-vertical ones don't.

My thanks to Spidermom and also Hypnotica, for her video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoBA2OhZrcU)which helped me understand how to make this great bun.

Darn; no picture for me.

I've tried vertical, but so far it won't stay. Stupid slippery hair!

Thank you so much for posting this! Your bun looks lovely and your links helped me to finally figure out how to do Spidermom's bun! I'd only seen Hypnotica's video and screwed up a bit. Your link to Spidermom's actual instructions actually cleared it up for me. :)

Sorry seeing the photo was a problem, folks. :( I tried linking in the image, but that didn't work. I have had trouble linking in images and thought since the album was public you'd be able to just go to the link. -sigh- More techie stuff to learn, obviously.

I am glad that the picture, once found, was helpful. I really love this bun, and like that it looks different rotated different ways. Sort of like an infinity bun, only no twisting and so comfortable. It holds solidly, doesn't rotate, which some of the other buns do, and is fast and easy to do, once your hands figure it out. It took me longer than it should have to figure a reliable way to find the 'middle' of the 2 turns around the fingers by finding the beginning of the second turn next to the start of the first turn where it comes off the scalp, but now it's second nature.

I find it holds best for me with either a fork or 2 sticks. One stick doesn't feel as solid for some reason. Maybe because the tension isn't spread out as well and the loops are looser. I don't care for the way it looks in a Flexi, as it seems to always get one loop larger than the other with a Flexi. Operator error, I'm sure.

I adore this bun! I actually use a Ficcare to hold it - I just need to make it a bit looser so the bottom part slides through the loops.
