After years of attempting to keep up in classes while trying to rearrange my bun with a claw clip in my mouth, having to stop yoga and fix my droopy bun because it fell behind my head on the mat, incurring ponytail damage, braid rubbage, and general frustration I can safely say I've been working out using the following hair toy for a month now, to no ill effects....
Without further adieu I give you
The spin pin! Tada!!!!
(I searched old threads and it seemed no one has really addressed how perfect these are for exercising.)
Anyone with me on this?!! It's truly been a miracle so far.

YES! I picked them up after reading a couple of threads here on how people liked them for buns, etc. I had no idea it would hold a bun in place and not let it move anywhere for anything! I am a big fan! :cheese:

So glad to hear others have also discovered this! I feel like I could be swept away in a tornado and my bun would still be in place using these things. Fantastic.

I bought these when they first came out and didn't like them much, just tried them again today and now I get it. :) I think my technique must have been off before, plus my hair wasn't as long.

I want some! I've actually wanted some for a while, but not for yoga. During yoga practice I sport a double french braid- they work great for any supine pose as well as head stand. For me no bun or hair toy can be that versatile.

Right now I'm content with a scrunchie messy bun, but I'll definitely keep this in mind. Thank you! I currently don't have enough money to buy a nice set of hairsticks. After I purchase those, I plan to next buy spin pins. :)

Spin pins just do not work for me. *curses fine hair* Oh, they do work on "wash day"-otherwise known as "poof day" :p I really should swap them, they are lonely...so very lonely...*sings*

I love my spin pins for running! My hair always feels secure when I use them, unlike with a scrunchy bun.

I have never tried them. But truthfully I am deathly afraid of anything that would screw into my hair because if it can get caught my hair usually finds a way! :) Are there any iii wurlies who use these with good results? I did a test of the hair toys I own + working out (in my blog) and the hands down winner for me were Quattro flexsticks. I love, love, love them and they hold my crazy mess even through and hour of cardio without any snagging.

I'm nervous to use em too...I've heard great things about them but I've also heard they can get tangled up in the hair when trying to put in em/take em out...:blueeek:
I use a braid & love it for exercise.

You know...I have been having issues with this lately. I am doing extremely physical, high contact, and fast-paced martial arts right now, and the long english braid is not cutting it. It's swinging around too much and I don't like the friction involved with the braid rubbing against my shirt in constant motion while doing this. But if I'm going to bun it, it has to be totally secure and there can't be anything sticking out. Spin pins do seem like the answer. And actually, I had already purchased some coated wire in order to make my own, which I forgot all about. I'd better get on that.

Ooo, keep me posted! I just finished an hour of zumba (a.k.a. high impact flailing class) and left with only flyaways at the end.

Spin pins are awesome. I think they work better the longer my hair gets. It is very windy where I live and my hair stays in them. They're also great for excercise for me. I'm also into martial arts and after I got tired of getting whipped in the face with my braid, I switched to these and I love them.:o

They are truly amazing, except i cant get them in sometimes the first try. I think braided buns with a spin spin work the best. :)

If your style is fairly tight and you place them well, you shouldn't have a problem. I haven't ever had them tangle and my hair is prone to tangling.
Why don't you try a braided bun to start? Braid it, put an elastic on the end (just in case), then bun it. That way your hair shouldn't be moving around too much anyway, and you can practice spin pin placement. I put my hair in a braided bun held with spin pins for swimming. It works really well!

Has anyone with really fine, thin (i/ii) hair tried these? If so what were your results (and hair length) please?

C.H., I made some long ones (4.5 inches) out of non-coated wire, and they work really well. Of course, I don't do anything high-impact, so YMMV. :) Stiffer wire works better but is harder to bend. I also told Goody that they should make some long ones like that. I'm sure they would find a few customers here on LHC.

I admit now I'm totally going to try these out. The longer my hair gets the more annoying it is at the gym. Buns falls out and the only thing I like is a low ponytail for high impact cardio these days.

My hair is neither fine nor slippery, but spin pins won't make my bun stay even when I'm sitting still! I can't even imagine trying to use them for gym...

So true. It's amazing how a do that seems rock hard secure in everyday life utterly falls apart within seconds of embarking on a vigorous workout. I did find a way to make a bun stay throughout a workout--by using two hair forks simultaneously inserted at a more or less 90 degree angle from each other. Also, the bun was quite high, so the crown of my head was supporting most of the weight of my hair and gravy wasn't working against it so much. Didn't look great, but hey, that's not what I'm there for.

I'm going to have to try this...
I tried a low bun as some people suggested for the gym but on exercises when you're lying on a bench (especially bench press) it's really not comfortable at all. I tried a French braid last time and put up whatever was hanging down into a low bun - that seemed to work a lot better - some flyaways and a bit of falling out but that's not too bad considering a cardio session, plyometrics and weight lifting - 2 hours trip to the gym.
Can someone tell me how "comfortable" it is if you make a low bum with it when lying on a bench? I'm worried the metal might make it quite uncomfortable.
Thanks.

I can't feel them at all, they are tucked deep inside the bun and don't poke out. I am wearing them now in fact and I can't even feel them if I poke my fingers in all the way.
