View Full Version : Are these little things damaging to hair?

Since joining LHC I've learned I should wear my hair up everyday, and with my lack of knowledge of updo's I've just been shoving it up in one of these everyday:

(I couldn't think of how to describe them so I thought a picture would be best :))

Would this be damaging to my hair? I literally just bring all my hair up to my head and secure it in place with one of these

So can anyone suggest some end-protecting updo's for shoulder length hair? My ends break off ridiculously easily so I really do need something a little more protective than my current style!

Thanks!

A French Twist maybe? Calw clips are usually not damaging as long as they don't have any sharp edges.

I did that until shoulder length with my 'mullet' I guess and I wore it like that every day... I did find more split ends in the center back of my head probably from wearing it the same way every day so I had to S&D that. Now I can do a french twist and I love it... it's the best style at this length very protective, comfortable, and looks good. I secure mine with a flexi-8.

Here's a link to the Gibson Twist:

You might want to search the Hairstyling section (see the grey menu bar, above and click on "Articles" then on the "Hairstyling" heading).

Sorry, but I've never used those claw thingies.

I have extra large ones of these and I use them mainly when I am conditioning my hair to keep it off my face or if I am having a lazy day and can't be bothered to bun! I don't notice any damage to my hair by using them.

Claw-clips are my favorite! It's so easy to whip your hair up any which way you want. I have noticed any damage from them either but watch out for those really cheap plastic ones. They're too hard and grippy and might get tangled in your hair. Look for smooth, rounded materials. The ones in the picture look pretty good.

Feel for any sharp edges (which can be filed down). If you aren't pulling out hairs when you remove them, all is well.
