Grecian hairstyle help

I"m having a hard time finding photos or drawings online of ACTUAL Grecian hairstyles- all I'm finding are red-carpet dos or stills from the movie Troy. Not helpful.

I'm trying to come up with a hairstyle for the play I'm in. It is one of the Greek tragedies with a strong dance element. I step out from the chorus at one point and become Helen of Troy - no costume change and I don't get to leave stage. So I need something that will be secure during the movement section but still be "pretty" for Helen.

I'm considering a hairstyle that might mutate- front styled one way, back in a simple bun or something I could quickly let loose- but since the movement is so frenetic I can only use a claw clip or a ponytail holder, a stick will not be secure and could injure somebody. But I'm not married to this idea.

Whatever style needs frame my face but not add too much height. I used rope braids for the last show I did with them so I'd like to do another style.

If you google 'ancient greek vase' you get lots and lots of pottery with detailed drawings of people on them - you could, perhaps, redact a hairstyle from there.

Also, I seem to recall that women in classical greece veiled when outdoors - so, perhaps your dramatic change from chorus line to lead could be accompanied by throwing off a veil, revealing your hair?

In many cultures throughout history, hair pieces and wigs were used to make a hairstyle more elaborate or make up for lack of hair thickness, http://www.roman-colosseum.info/roman-clothing/roman-hairstyles.htm.

So if there is a style you wish to recreate, clip in extensions can help offset the work that may be involved in styling your own hair for the play.

ETA: I was not sure where the title of "hairdressesing archaeologist" came from. I am still not sure about that. Janet Stephens is a "hair designer".

I wish the drawings were easier to tell whether the styles are waved hair, braids or whatnot! Intrigued by sewing the hair, though. Think I'll start a new thread...
