Braids I have no idea how to do- Help?

#2 - what type of braid is the top part, before it starts swirling?

any help is much appreciated!! I've been trying to do these for ages

The top part of the first is a "lace" french braid, where you only add from one side (in this case, the front). The top of the second braid is a regular french braid. The swirl part is a waterfall braid.

Check out these youtube tutorials for instructions! For one looks similar to the first braid: http://www.youtube.com/user/lilithedarkmoon#p/u/9/bZ-a94bzwA8 She does it in Dutch style while yours is French, but I think it's the same technique.

It looks like a lace braid all the way to me, but at the first turn she changed the side she was adding hair to.

I'm glad you posted these! Sometimes it's easier to learn from multiple tutorials, and I think the first one you posted was a bit more recognizable as the first style than the one I posted, though I think they're almost identical.

The second one you posted I don't think is the same as the second picture? She does the carousel braid. It's similar but not exactly the same. I'm still glad though since I've been watching Torrin Paige's version of the carousel tutorial and having some difficulty with it! I'm not sure if this new tutorial will help me make more sense out of it, or if it just looks terrible in my hair lol, but at least I can try!
