the top layer of my hair is mostly straight, while everything underneath is really curly! I'm never able to get my top layer to curl, and was almost thinking to just rag curling every single night ): before I layered my hair it was curly.. I just hope the longer it gets that maybe it will curl again. but I doubt it.

the slight 'wave' is from it being up in a pony tail during work

Hi hair twin :waving: I think it's the distance from the tip of the hair, not the location of the root, that correlates with curliness. At least that's how mine is. I keep mine braided because the braids match the curl.

Watching this thread because this interests me too. My top layer (crown) is always much straighter then the stuff under it too.

oh, well darn!! I don't much like braiding my hair.. even if I braid it wet, my curl SOMEHOW takes over and makes it frizzy. Not wavy. even if I dont touch it. D:

I specifically get my hair to do this by making sure I only scrunch the bottom part when I'm just out of the shower and do not touch/move the top part so that it stays stuck to my head and therefore stays straighter. I don't like the way root curl looks on me, I like my hair to look like yours.

But if I flipped my head forward to scrunch all of my hair when its wet or did plopping, I get a lot of root curl. HTH.

what is plopping? I've seen it on here a lot but I don't know what it is.

It's drying your hair faster for curlies and setting the curl in hair better with a towel.
