After 5 friends being affected by cancer, I am giving up my last chemical- highlighting. It's a shock after 23 years.
My poll is
1. How long are your roots?
2. What's the longest length that needs to grow out?

1. I have 1.5" roots.
2. My longest piece is 14".

I have a LONG way to go!

My roots are 0.5" (probably a bit less). My hair is 30" long.

;)

I have had my colour toned down so that it is just a shade more golden (but not lighter, just my hair is very ashy) and I can grow out my natural colour without too much of a demarcation line.

My hair is 30 inches long.I have dyed hair from APL down.I stopped dyeing to transition to silver. To hide the demarcation line I used highlites for a year then never needed to colour again.Didn't need to cut.

1. How long are your roots?

About 4 inches (approximate guess)

2. What's the longest length that needs to grow out?

I have shoulder length hair and from about chin down is still yucky damage. I'm maybe about half way grown out. I need a trim on the 27th I'm thinking 1/2 inch or 1 inch

Here's my progress it is pretty easy to see since the bleached damage parts texture is completely different from my hair...

Yeah it's still hideous but what can you do.

I HAD roots about 4 inches but then as I was trying to do something with a bit of my hair, it screwed up so we had to dye all my hair to fix it. So now my roots are 0. :(. My hair is currently at around 28 inches.

I have 7 - 8 inches of roots and 21-22 inches of hair. I've been growing out my blonde highlights, which I've had since I was about 14, for a year now. My hair has darkened in the intervening years so seeing so much of my natural color is a little shocking! I layer my hair and most of my highlighting was in the top layers, so most of the highlights are cut by now... My goal is to not color for one more year and then see if I like my all-over natural color enough to leave it or whether I want to start coloring it again.

I'm still tempted to color. But only to blend in the two colors; it has nothing to do with my grays/silvers. I'm considering henndigo, but I think I'm too lazy. And I worry I won't get it right - then I'd be back at square one...

Like I post on the older other thread.....

I'm growing out last summer's (2010) red-hot red color.
I've got about 5-inch very dark brunette roots, and 18 or so inches of faded light reddish-brown ends.

Down loose or in a braid, it's not really that noticeable.

In updos, you only see the dark roots from the front ... but you see the light buns against the dark roots in the back fairly noticeably.

I wish I could do something to lessen the very noticeable difference... but I'm too afrai that I'll mess it up and make matters worse. If only the lighter reddish length could be darkened and browned slightly to look more like my dark roots... and stay that way without fading. I fear chemical damage as well, so I don't want to repeatedly keep dying the ends darker. Just one shot and stay darker. sigh
