Do you cross your spin pins so that they interlock? Or do you avoid doing so, as per the package instructions?

I interlock them - but take the extra time at the end of the day to get them out gently and slowly.

I've been wondering why the package says that. Only thing I can think of is that I do hear a strange sound when I interlock them, like hair getting trapped and rubbed between the two metal pieces.. I figure it can't be good for the hair, so I try not to, but sometimes it happens.

I generally try not to since I like them going parallel to each other. I find it easier to grab more scalp hair that way to distribute the weight.

Not on purpose but it happens.

Yes, because my buns are still relatively small, so there is not a lot of room underneath them to not have them interlock. Haven't noticed a problem with it though.

No I don't interlock them. They get damaged if it happens, not much but everytime a little bit. Plus when they get interlocked they pull more.

No no no no no no!! I used to think that was just a silly package instruction and ignored it, and at Christmas gone, I tried to take my hair down from interlocking spin pins ... and I don't know what happened but it was like those puzzles you get where two pieces of metal won't come apart unless you know the SECRET way. Only living on the back of my head, and so I can't see. And already half out, so the tension is all painful. My aunt had to sit me down and it took her 25 minutes to get them out. Luckily we didn't have to cut anything, but there was talk of it.

I did it PLENTY without incident, but it only took one time for me to swear off the habit completely, now I never never interlock.

Sometimes, not deliberately. I don't find they hold any differently when they're 'locked' and I haven't bent mine out of shape at all from doing it. You just have to extra careful when you take them out.

It almost always happens when I put mine in. But they come out just as easily if I didn't accidentally interlock them. My hair doesn't snag so easily in clips, barrettes, etc.

Yup, and on purpose. For a major event that I was working, I had in 4 pins, two interlocked N/S and two interlocked E/W, then those 4 all crossed in the center.

No damage to my hair that I've found, and if there is any, it's clearly less than the gel and hairspray it would have otherwise required.

This. Not because I'm trying to avoid a hair disaster like freckles (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/member.php?u=23768) had (omg, yikes! :() but because I think the coils could get bent. I'm cheap and I don't wanna replace them before they're worn out. :p
