I picked up some sesame seed oil last night at Wal-Mart. It's Imperial Dragon brand and says 100% Pure Sesame Seed Oil. Did I get the right thing? Is this the same as the "sesame oil" I have heard others talking about? I ask because I opened the bottle and this stuff reeks. It smells like burned Chinese food.

Is it really dark in color?

There are two types of sesame oil you can get: Roasted and Unroasted. The roasted variety is dark and stinky and used primarily for flavoring food. The unroasted variety is light colored and doesn't have a really strong odor. You can smell the sesame scent to it, but it's subtle, relatively speaking.

Both will work on your hair. In fact, I think my hair has a slight preference for the smellier one. But my personal preference runs toward the unroasted for obvious reasons.

The roasted looks like this. (http://www.amazon.com/Kadoya-Pure-Sesame-Oil-5-5/dp/B0000CNU11/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&qid=1316466060&sr=8-25)
The unroasted is more this color. (http://www.amazon.com/Sesame-Oil-16-oz-Liquid/dp/B00028MI50/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1316466007&sr=8-9)

Ahh..that would explain it. I guess I got the roasted one because it's dark and oh-so-smelly. LOL. Glad to hear that I can still use it though. I got it to cut my castor oil for scalp treatments. Guess I'll just slap a shower cap on over it so I don't have to smell myself while it does it's magic.

Thanks for all the info!

Add some essential oil to the mix, it might cut the odor down. I like to use geranium and rose!
