I never use aloe gel in my SMT, only conditioner and honey. It works OK. I say go ahead :)

If you read through the whole plethora of pages about SMT's you'll find many posts of people who's hair does not like honey, or aloe and who substitute in something different. The most common substitution I've seen has been an oil of some kind.
And if you would be upset if your hair was lightened at all, then preheat your honey for a bit, let it cool and then add.

thankyou both for your quick replies as i was planning on doing an smt in about an hour! I would like to try the honey as it would be an added bonus if it ended up lightening it a tad! im a have stayed away from dyes for a while now! my hair is virgin now (i have got rid of the damage!) Its a dark blonde close to a strawberry blonde! I will post pics after my SMT :) I will add some oil! :D

Just do be aware that honey lightening can cause damage, like any other kind of lightening. Natural doesn't necessarily equal non-damaging. :)

Don't fret too much - honey *may* cause lightening but doesn't always and in fact the conditions in an SMT tend to preclude it. People who want to use honey for lightening use a specific ratio and avoid adding conditioner because it throws the pH off, plus some types of honey are more likely to lighten than others. Odds are, you'll be fine. (I generally don't bother with heating my honey and I have had no lightening)

well i did the SMT and my hair feels sooo great! I dont know why i left it sooo long before i tried it! but my hair feels soooo smooth and soft so i will SMT once every 3-4 weeks now! :)
I even used my fav dimethicone conditioner on it ( no lumpy consistency at all) Its the charles worthington brilliant shine conditioner! Oh and the honey didn't lighten my hair which is a shame but not too disappointed because i wasn't really expecting that to be honest! Im really wanting to use the honey again in my future SMT's but am a little anxious that it may cause damage (i did not know that honey can)! It has taken me a long time to get to damage free virgin hair so i dont want to start getting damage again! i am confused that leaving honey in hair for 3 hours can damage hair?? I need to do some research on this!! Being part of LHC is like being a student again! :) Im in hair school!!!
