View Full Version : Hairstick orientation (for hairstick with right/wrong sides)

How do you wear hairsticks that have a "right" side rather than being radially symmetric? Should people creeping up behind you be able to see the right side of the hairstick while they have a good view of your bun, or should people in front of you catch glimpses of the right side peeking around your head?

I have a new hairstick with a flattish topper. One side of the topper has some more intricate metalwork, and the other side is plain. Today I wore it with the fancy side facing to the back, so people behind me can have a good view.

I would wear it so people behind me can see the design.

It depends on how the hairdo turns out.

If the stick shows prominently to the front, then I would probaby turn it to the front.

If the stick is lower down, so only a little of the topper shows at the front . . . then I'd turn it toward the back.

I do try to avoid the "antenna" look with the sticks symmetrical. If that happens, and the hairdo feels good, I usually push one in further and turn it different. Cause I don't mess with a bun that sits just right . . . I can never make if feel that good again if I take out the support to try again.

To the back, it feels more natural to me. Also, as I don't wear either high buns or very long sticks, rotated to the front wouldn't show off the topper at all.

Right side to the back. But I never wear hairsticks long enough that one can see them from the front,

Also right side to the back. I prefer short hairsticks so people don't see my stick from the front.

I voted 'right side to back'. I think it's because my sticks aren't long enough (that, or my head is too big :D) to have a design showing that people who face me could see.

I've always worn my 'right-sided' hairsticks facing backwards - for no other reason than ... just 'cos ... :poot:
But now I can choose to let them be visible from the front, on the right updo.
Thanks for the idea!
:p

Most of my hairsticks are symmetrical but the few ones which have a "right" side I wear visible from behind. What shall all the people hiding behind me think, when looking at the back-side of me and my hairstick, while the interesting side of the stick watches the back of my head  I wear my sticks in a way that they do not stand out over my head (avoiding antennas), so they are not visible from the front anyway. But I think I would not wear the right side visible from the front even if it would stand out high enough. That idea never came to my mind before... so, most likely not visible from the front.

For forks which tend to be more visible from the front, I prefer those which have carving on both sides (not necessarily the same one though - 2 in 1 fork) :) problem solved.

Right side to the back, but now I'm on the lookout for a hairstick topped with radially symmetric cheese!

I'm another who always wears my design facing the back.

I face them toward the back. That way people get the whole picture- bun and sticks.

The hairstick I wear the most has a wolf's head on the end. I wear it with the head positioned upright - which makes it right-side-up when seen from the front or back. Wouldn't do to have an upsidedown wolf :)

I feel like it should face the back really but I rarely do my hair with a mirror and just poke the sticks in at any angle that feels comfortable, so I'd probably end up with it facing forwards (or possibly even upwards or downwards) half the time.

I usually wear my sticks a short as I can get away with, otherwise I'm always catching them on things, so people can only see them from behind. I do have one where the wiggles are going a weird way, and it always turns so the abalone inlay at the end faces upward, no matter how I put it in. That's okay, I guess, since I'm so short that most people look down at me.

Usually my sticks face the back. I have a few which view either way as well. There is one that I got intentionally long...an Elymwood with turquoise inlay on both ends...i try to position it so it is highly visible. And there is one fork I have which is obviously a rear facing left handed fork. I’m right handed so it is always worth a giggle to reverse my usual hairstyle. Lol!

I like the antenna look. I face them forward a lot of the time. My favorite thing is to do a half up with 2 small buns on the top of my head. I have sets of 4 tiny glass hair sticks for this.

“Right side to the back, so people can get a good view of both bun and stick"
Definitively that!

Tbh, I just don't purchase these kinds of "one sided" designs. My perfectionist side, to an annoying extent, would need both sides to be interesting instead of one intricate side and one plain side! If I could place it so that the back would have a cool view though, I'd be happy with that :)

Right side to the back. Mostly so both bun and stick can be viewed, but also because I don't usually have the top of my stick sticking out from my head so much that it could be viewed from the front.
