Braiding causes oily hair to go away?

Does anyone else get that, where your hair is greasy so you wear your hair in a braid all day, then take it down at night to find dry, soft hair? I've found that I can go for days without washing if I braid my bangs every night to get rid of the grease! How does this work? Does curled/wavy hair soak in more oil than pin-straight?
I have no idea, but I sure do like it! :D

Wow I'm going to have to try this. I'm an every day washer. I know bad bad, but I just like the feeling of freshly washed hair. (even if I just use conditioner only)
