Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
I haven't been posting lately.... been very busy with work lately... therefore I took my day off today to do my hair.....
I did ceramic perming :) Any chemical treatments will definitely damage the hair to a certain extent, even my hair stylist fully agrees with it therefore pre-care and after-care and maintenance is very important.
I did hair mask, use more hair serum prior to my perming and had a wonderful experience throughout the perming process.
Breakdown of the process:
1. Shampoo and condition my hair
2. Blow dry my hair using minimal heat
3. Applied perm solution on hair and leave on for about 20 to 30 minutes or more can't really remember it well (I was busy browsing the beauty & fashion magazines with my mum beside me colouring her hair).
4. Hairstylist came over to check my hair strands, brought me to wash my hair.
5. Start to roll my hair into the curlers and my hair was connected to this ceramic machine as shown below:
http://www.google.com.sg/imgres?q=ceramic+hair+machine&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1440&bih=799&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=Sy1-wpRi45dDGM:&imgrefurl=http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/sarahguo2010/offer-detailHeLQJygTaIcS/Sell-Professional-Ceramic-Hair-Perming-Machine.html&docid=xE2wtGOB3xXJbM&w=340&h=668&ei=CyxvTsuDOo_PrQe1spDuBg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=294&page=1&tbnh=144&tbnw=73&start=0&ndsp=33&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0&tx=21&ty=65
6. There is heat used but I don't feel hot and burning to the scalp, the process took about 20 minutes I believe.
7. She removed the curlers and apply neutralizer on my hair to lock the perm lotion in and thus making this a permanent perm that can last up to 6 to 9 months with proper care and maintenance.
8. Wash my hair again and apply hair treatment over my hair for about 20 minutes.
9. Rinse off the hair treatment in cold water, apply volume cream and blow dry my hair with diffuser. Trim my fringe as usual.

The real care and maintenance will start on Friday, I've invested lots of hair masks and shampoo and conditioner formulated for curly and permed hair. WOo hoo, I'm now officially a curly head :)

I wish I didn't click on this thread, now I'm so tempted to get one. I've been contemplating a digital perm for ages but since I recently colored over recent highlights, I probably can't now. I'm so envious of curls and your gorgeous perm! It came out really nice. Keep us posted in your routine and care of your new curls!

I hope i can manage the curls well too, I've been a straightie for years will definitely look for lots of great tips and advices over here to care for curls.
Must learn how to use the scrunch and use the diffuser... and hopefully my hair doesn't turn unmanageable...

Sweetie: It does require lots of care and maintenance, I hope I can pull it off though.
had spent some moolahs on more hair masks and hair serums.
Auburn_locks: I agree, the machine does look scary, those telephone cords....
spidermom: I hope the condition holds too, more hydration and nourishment for my hair... and of course less hair drying and more air-drying. ^^

whats a ceramic perm?
Fufu
September 13th, 2011, 10:45 AM
Rocket22: Thanks :) I'm having my first wash on Friday and will see how I fare on handling and styling curls.
annieangel149: Ceramic perm is which uses hot rods with the temperature regulated by a machine. It makes the wave most prominent when the hair is dry, and loose when it is wet. It can create curls and looser waves.
Here's link about digital perm (similar to ceramic perm that I did) vs cold perm (Normal perm)
Digital perm creates looser waves while ceramic perm can create bouncier curls.

Gorgeous! :) I hope it stays healthy too, chemical processes are not that bad when done well, and the hair is taken care of. People overreact here, and most of the times something was done wrong.

yes i agree! when i had perms done i had the perm solution on for longer and it was a stronger solution because that was the only way my hair would keep the curls! i also did not know alot about aftercare! (this was before i joined LHC! ) Because of this i totally ruined my hair! Your perm is great! :) and you will know how to look after it! unlike me! lol!

Wow, that looks lovely!
I'm completely envious. The only stylist I've ever trusted enough to let near my hair with chemicals like that was very firm that it'd be a disaster to perm my hair. I have SO much of it (5.5"+ pony circumference) that she said I'd end up with an uncontrollable lion's mane. Hmm, maybe now that my hair is longer, I'll ask her again the next time I go out there. (She's near my parents' house, which is across the country from me.) I probably won't go out there again until next summer, which would mean my hair will probably be at TBL or longer. Hmm...yeah, that's worth thinking about... Go to her and have her trim out the last of my layers and then perm it...maybe...hmm...

For those thinking about perms: Any perm is damaging (very damaging). If you want no-damage curls, here's the sock bun method again. I find it to be super easy and to give perfect results:

Oh, it looks very lovely! I had promised myself a perm (my first) once I reached APL hair, but when I told my mother she was all NOOOOOOOO! And, the older I get, the more I go "You know, mom was right about those other things, I should probably listen to her." Once my hair gets long enough, I hope to do the sock bun and sock curling methods for gorgeous all day curls when I want them.
But good for you for getting this done, especially if it is something you have wanted! It looks great, no weird poofy at all! :D

My hair stylist told me that cold perms (the normal ones) are usually frizzier with the outcome. Years ago, my mum did the normal perm and her hair was very frizzy. The hot perm has less frizzy effect on hair, however it is still chemical treatment, I was too advice to keep my hair hydrate and nourished.
It also depends on the hair condition and texture before every perm, I believe ethical hairstylists will not risk your hair if they see and feel our condition is not ready for a chemical treatment.

I used shiseido perm solution (Japanese hair brand), it was said to be less harsh to hair and able to create bouncier curls.

Thanks :) I was lucky that my hair stylist was patient and attentive to my hair. And I'm glad I waited about 1 year plus of all the care and maintenance (thanks to LHC).
The perm itself was SGD$180.
I paid SGD$75 for treatment
total SGD$255
All in Singapore dollars.

Thank you ^_^
I have not wash my hair, I was told not to wash for 48 hours (read from website up to 72 results for optimal results for the perm to stay in the hair).
After my hair treatment and rinsing off, my hairstylist applied hair cream on my hair and gently scrunch my hair and she used diffuser to dry my hair.
She told me I could also just apply hair cream and scrunch my hair and let my hair air dry for the curls to form itself naturally.

It's true that perming does damage and hurt the hair. After care will be the most crucial thing to maintain the hair. I will be washing my hair tomorrow and the real care starts. Hopefully, my hair will remain soft and manageable. I will keep updates on my permed hair. As my hair is fine and it's 1b straight, I will be overjoyed if my perm can last me 5 months.

I would give anything to have curls. While at Win-co last night I saw a young lady, I'd say in her twenty's with the most beautiful, red, thick, curls that reached about mid back.
1st perm I had while being older, I was to impatient and didn't want to wait for my normal stylist. HUGE MISTAKE!!! The stylist left the perming solution on entirely to long and fried my hair. Then she proceeded to tell me the reason for the curls falling out and not holding was due to my lack of knowledge when it comes to perms. She then tried to tell me my hair was much to long to hold the curls. I went from having hair below BSL to chin. I looked like little orphan Annie. It was horrible!!! I've thought about getting another perm but from my future mother in law. She and her daughter are both hair dressers and are the only ones Jess ( fiance) will allow to touch my hair.
