I've been looking all over my area for good crimped pins, and I'm having such a hard time finding anything decent. :steam I went to Giant and CVS, and I found nothing of significance. I know my local Wegmans has a good selection of hair products, but I don't distinctly remember if they have strong crimped U-shaped pins. Any ideas?

I'd say probably not. Do you have a Sally's anywhere near you?

I like the crimped pins from Sally's such as these:

There's also a similar type of pin called Bunheads, usually sold through dance supply stores:

There is, now that you mention it. :p It's just that I don't know exactly where it is. I'm going to have to hunt it down, however, because I think that's the only place that has what I want.

I made some big hair pins by bending knitting needles into a u shape...use the needles without the knobby things on one end...they are huge and are wonderful!!!

I found these to be too flexible for my taste. You might do just fine with them, but for me there's no replacement for a stiff pin, like an amish pin.
There are a few places online you can get them. Here's one. (http://www.prayercoverings.com/catalog.php?category=27) Here's another. (http://www.plainlydressed.com/cart/products.php?cat=21) Typically shipping is cheaper than the sites initially estimate because they can mail them in a small envelope. On my past orders, they've refunded the difference.

I do need something relatively heavy duty, so Amish pins might be my best bet.

Thank for the websites everyone. I'll definitely look at them all. :)
