Hi all,

Just a quick poll. Tell us the best and / or worst hair care product you've ever used.

My worst has got to be Pantene shampoo and conditioner -- I know the brand is popular and effective for some, but it wrecked and dried out my hair. I stopped using Pantene when I joined LHC (great advice on this forum!) and noticed a vast improvement. I think my hair couldn't get any moisture because of the cones in everything.

The next worst has got to be John Frieda Frizz Ease. Gosh this was dreadful for me! The day after using it, it used to flake off and make my hair all matted and sticky! Again, it's a popular product and my dislike of it is based on how my hair responded. The only serums I use now are by Kiehl's and Kerastase.

Care to share your best and worst? Thanks! : )

My best hair product I've used has been Biolage Conditioning Balm.

The worst has got to be anything Pantene for my hair. My scalp breaks out in a horrible rash that takes weeks to go away.

My worst has been anything John Mitchel. I used the finishnig cream on my mother's hair months ago and I ended up breaking out in hives...thank goodness I didn't actually use it on my head.

Best is Vitatress by Nexxus with Biotin. Love that stuff. It's helped with the shedding quite a bit!

Best is Giovanni S&C.

I have a couple of "worsts". John Freida "red" shampoo and conditioner, ugh horrible horrible! Herbal essences "body envy" made me break out all over my scalp face and neck ugh!

Bests are: Neutrogena Clean volume shampoo, and V05 Calming chamomile conditioner.

I have tried over and over again to like this product, but it just doesn't work for me
Burts Bees Rasberry and Brazil Nut Moisture Shampoo.
Its too harsh for my dyed hair and it leaves mine rough and tangled

The best is oils.EO's and carriers. As for best commercial product,I really like Neutrogena Triple Moisture Hair Mask. Its extrememly cone heavy but my hair digs cones immensly

Worst:
Poppy Seed Hairmask from the Body Shop
Blueberry Conditioner Spray or something, also from the Body Shop (really horrible for my hair!)

Best:
Most stuff from Ultra Doux
Elvive alpha-jojoba (too bad it has cones)
Honey Moisturizing Conditioner from the body shop

Luckily...I have never run into a product that was all that terrible...but my least favorite is Suave shampoo just because it it too soapy. I would have to say my favorite is Aussie Moist shampoo and Conditioner :D <3...love it! And the deeeeep conditioning 3 Minute Miracle...really is a miracle <3.

Best one would be... Biolage Conditioning Balm. My hair loves it!! Worst one would be.. *thinks* Pantene...

My worst would be anything Biolage. I know it's beloved by many, but my hair goes all sort of sticky and tangles dreadfully with it.

The best... well, when I was beating up my hair with all sorts of chemicals, Goldwell Kerasilk conditioner was my favorite- excellent slip in my tangle-prone hair, and it really did make it feel like silk. Now though, it seems too moisturizing most of the time. I guess that's a good sign, right? I haven't found anything really fantastic to replace it yet, though the Garnier Fructis smoothing stuff is close.

I think my worst has to be Pantene extra body (long term). I loved it on first use but with repeated use my hair got duller and drier. I'm also not fond of any 2-in-1 or hairspray. My worst on first use was probably shampoo bars, but I'm exploring them again with different results.

My best is Inecto 100% pure coconut oil conditioner. I love this stuff and my hair likes to bathe in it. :D

For me:
Worst
Burt's Bees shampoo--was so sticky and harsh, my hair was soooo dry
Anything 2 in 1 (Dove's especially)
herbal essence moisture quench conditioner--didn't do anything
suave coconut conditioner -didn't do anything

Best
Biolage normal to oily hair shampoo and moisturizing mist spray on conditioner
Pantene clarifying shampoo and extra moisturizing renewl conditioner
herbal essence degunkifying shampoo
Head and SHoulders restore shine shampoo--great for my itchy scalp
A/G shampoo for dandruff. AWesome stuff

I'm on the fence about a few things such as loreal conditioner (loved the feel/light weight, but didn't see much results), neutrogena clarifying shampoo--worked on some occasions, not on others.

nankipooI agree Nankipoo! With both of these! You are not alone!

My worst is definitely Pantene any shampoo or conditioner

Best is Giovanni (no cones) or Dove dark blue conditioner (with cones)

I don't like any serums either except Kerastase Oleo relax and that is only short term. I don't use any serums anymore. Coconut oil rules!

Worst - anything by Infusium. I broke out so badly I still have scars, and we're talking about 3 years ago now!!

Best - coconut oil!

Oh, found some more that didn't work for me:
Garnier Fructis. Doesn't matter which. They didn't work
Finesse
Loreal Pearl collection (aka sludge hair)
new Herbal Essence line did nothing except the degunkify
Suave naturals ---nice shampoos, but they don't clean my hair, and the conditioners did nothing

Bed Head (TIGI) products wrecked my hair. Of course, with a product line name like that I should had known better.

Before LHC, I liked Kiehl's products, and Aussie 3 Minute Miracle.

After LHC, Nature's Gate S&C, Giovanni SAS, and sometimes Burt's Bees S&C.

The worst hair products for my hair that I have ever used were the L'Oréal Paris Elvive Anti-Frizz Shampoo Smooth-Intense range. They seemed to make my hair feel oily, which attracted a lot of dirt judging by the colour of the water each time I washed it and yet my hair seemed really dry and frizzy at the same time and tangled more than I have ever known it to do before. Also I seemed to get horribly smelly hair when I used it, perhaps as a result of all the dirt I was attracting. It made me feel so uncomfortable.

A few years ago I really liked the Shwarzkopf Gliss range for dry frizz prone hair but they changed the formulation and packaging and I didn't like the new one so much. I've recently started to use Tresemme products and find that combining the anti breakage shampoo with the salon silk conditioner for dry frizz prone hair is quite effective for me.

Best is a tie between Giovanni 50/50 S & C, FOTE aloe, and Loreal Vive pearl protein hair mask

worst is a tie between SMT (my hair hates them) and an egg/honey mask that I made for my hair that was when I realized that it absolutely cannot handle protein in more than very small doses.

Worst has been anything Pantene. It was the only line that made my hair fall out in clumps. That and I remember using a line by KMS (kinda pricey) that was for color treated hair. It made my hair so unmanageable, tangly and dry it was insane.

I've had good luck with Garnier Fructis, L'Oreal Vive Pro Nutri Gloss, and Redken Color Extend or Extreme (for color treated and damaged hair, respectively). I'm also starting to use Infusium 23 as a leave in.

Worst for me was BioSilk serum. It dried my hair out and made it crunchy. I found out it was the cones causing the problem.

My favorite hair product is VO5 Tea Therapy Vanilla Mint conditioner. I love this stuff!

July 16th, 2008, 11:41 AM
Best: Though I try to minimize cones, it's Frizz Ease for me. Used with a blowdryer, it makes my hair quite straight. Used with air drying, it just makes my waves smooth. I don't use it often though.

Worst: V05 extra body. Makes my hair disgustingly lank.

Absolute worst was baking soda. It took *many* washes and conditionings to feel like *hair* again. (shudder)

The most amazingly best is WO. I was astonished and delighted. It's just perfect for me in winter, but I need a drop or two of shampoo in summer - too much working in the garden and sweating!

My hair hates Infusium It makes my hair hard

Pantene make my hair shed like crazy!

Best has been Matrix shampoo and conditioner. My hair is not to picky

July 16th, 2008, 08:40 PM
Worst: Stuff with cones (long term), Dawn dish washing liquid, and dove stuff. I hate how the dove products smell.

Best: my hair isn't too picky, so VO5 Tea Therapy Vanilla Mint conditioner because I love mint scented things. ^^ my hair also likes most of the Bed Head line.

edit: Just so people know, I was using the dish washing liquid to try and remove my semi-permanent vegie colors from my hair. It didn't really remove any color, dried out my hair, but cleaned my scalp really well.

AnimaSola3o4
July 16th, 2008, 09:34 PM
Worst: Mane 'n' Tail shampoo and conditioner. One of my hairstylists as an adolescent SWORE by it, especially since it came in large enough bottles to last me a long time.... but she then told me that she had a client whose hair was completely stripped from the product, to where she saw black coming out of her hair when she rinsed it in the shower. I'm assuming that this woman had dyed black hair, but still YIKES!

Best: Nizoral shampoo. It helps my scalp IMMENSELY, otherwise my scalp gets all buildup-y and flaky and itchy and dry. I used Nizoral and it went away completely. Now I'm using a prescription strength, dilluted with regular shampoo.

Also for me, switching back to cones was the best thing I have ever done. It's so much easier to deal with and detangling takes about 1/8 of the time it use to take. I know it's different for everyone, but it was worth mentioning because it helped me so much. :)

I used to use dish detergent on my scalp too. :/ I'm not sure why, but it helped my scalp but obviously it dried out my hair.

July 17th, 2008, 02:14 PM
Have you ever used Gain laundry detergent? I used it a few years ago. Kind of made my hair feel like wool but it didn't really damage it.

Worst:Organix Soft and silky vanilla shampoo and conditioner..just because the label says moisturizing doesn't mean it's true!

Best:Tresseme Moisture rich shampoo and conditioner. My hair just soaks that up! Takes care of the frizz too.

SweetPea88
July 17th, 2008, 03:23 PM
Worst:
Mane N' Tail S&C-my hair felt sticky and coated with wax
Suave Humectant Shampoo-made my hair feel extremely stripped
J/A/S/O/N Thin-to-Thick S&C-seriously could not lather in the slightest or get it through my hair, felt greasy and coated when it dried

Best:
CV Shampoo Bars
Coconut Oil

Wow, I'm surprised so many people have had bad experiences with Pantene.. I used to swear by it before I went cone-free & SLS-free.

Anyways, worst is definitely some organic anti-lice shampoo my mom bought for me when I was in 5th grade and a lice epidemic was going around my elementary school. (Lucky me, I've never had lice, but my mom wanted to take precaution.) The stuff was all sticky, and literally felt like honey on my hair. I couldn't get it to distribute through my hair - it just stuck all my hair together in a gloopy blob. Took forever to rinse out, and it made my hair all tangly, and... it was so awful that the experience is still the worst 10 years later.

Best is VO5 conditioner!! I love the stuff! Makes my hair smooth, and keeps my damaged ends conditioned so I don't have to chop them off.

My hair hates anything 2-1. so all those are the worst.

Best= V05 conditioners, awesome stuff (AND they're cone free :D) (unless oils count those would be the best hair care thing I've EVER used

My hair hates pantene, but I won't buy anything made by P&G so even if my hair loved it, then tough lol

The best thing I ever used in my hair was boots basics conditioner, but thats discontinued  so oils are the best thing in my hair.

Best: Sante conditioner Brilliant Care

Worst: L'Orealglossy shine shampoo

July 18th, 2008, 06:04 AM
Worst: Pantene ultra-moisturising (moisture renewal?) S&C. I was using their normal S&C at the time, and it was fine, but then I was sent the moisture renewal one as a free trial and it was AWFUL - my hair was a big, gluggy ball of oil and grease afterwards, and I had to wash again almost straight away. :(
Other than that, I am pretty lucky as I have hardy hair. It puts up with a lot of things, but LOVES a couple of things.

Best: The Redken Curls range, and All Soft Heavy Creme. My hair just thrives on this stuff. I am also trying Matrix Sleek Look, and this seems to be going very well, too. :cheese:

July 26th, 2008, 08:19 PM
Worst: Sun Silk in the pink bottles. It made my hair tacky, almost sticky, and lank. No shine whatsoever. BioSilk worked for about a week then it made my hair feel like straw.

Best: Regis Olive Oil & Naked Naturals. *currently trying organix shea butter and it seems to be doing ok for now.

I tend to switch products frequently because over use of anything seems to make my hair go wonky.

My best is currently Body Shop Amlika Leave-in Conditioner--it makes my hair look, feel, and smell wonderful!

I don't really have a worst. Nothing has ever really done horrible things to my hair. Though I guess I could say any kind of hair spray--I've always hated hair spray. Never again! My Aqua Net/club kid days are over.

Best: Any Aubrey Shampoo/Conditioner. These are the only products that do not give me dandruff.

Worst: VO5 paste conditioner (sorry, I don't remember the name) and Aussie Miracle conditioner. These caused my scalp to flake and gave me sores on the back of my head.

VanillaTresses
August 9th, 2008, 10:18 PM
Worst: Not very picky, but anything that has given me itchies/rash -- this list would be varied- I think it is a particular fragrance that does it because I have not been able to isolate any other common ingredient in the products that have caused a reaction.

Best: (currently) Infusium, Jason (apricot or sea kelp)

Worst: Not really sure but I think Garnier Fructis. Since I stopped using it, my hair has totally change. I have 4-5" of newgroth that's thicker than the rest of my hair. Could be the multivitamin I started taking almost a year ago or something else. Who knows.

Best: Pantene, I know it's unpopular but it melts away my tangles which helps in reducing split ends and knots. I feel that with pantene I don't really need any styling products, which is another plus.

Oh boy, where to begin? Infusium = nasty, dry hair that took weeks to repair. Baby shampoo = turned my color treated hair a bright red and dried it out. Aubrey Organics = just didn't work very well. Dry, sticky hair. Cholestrol = nasty, dry hair. I guess my hair just doesn't like protein very much.

I am now using Nature's Gate and love it! I have the Herbal poo and condish and just received a big shipment of their organic line. I just had to have four of their new formulas. They all smell so heavenly!

Chirp
August 15th, 2008, 06:14 PM
Best: Aussie Moist shampoo and 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner, though the Garnier Fructis Length and Strength line comes in a close second; these products give me plenty of slip in the shower (which is great for my slightly damaged, baby-fine, easily tangled hair), and when my hair dries, both Aussie and Garnier leave it soft, smooth, and wavy.

Worst: Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo and Conditioner, followed closely by Avalon Organics Peppermint Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner. Both of these lines left my hair hideously tangled and rough in the shower, even after the application of conditioner. Afterward, my hair became knotted, straw-like, and crunchy when it dried.

As much as I want to go the natural route, my hair doesn't seem to like most organic shampoos and conditioners. I'm still searching for a brand that will work for me without all the SLS and cones, if only to spare my sensitive skin the irritation and breakouts (my skin doesn't seem to agree with my hair's taste in grooming products).

Worst:

Best:
Garnier Fructis shampoos and conditioners (not styling prodcuts)
Dairy whip

I would like to add that when I had chemically dyed hair, Garnier was pure crap on my hair. Only now with virgin hair does it do anything for me, but I have left sulfates behind and Dairy Whip is just as good in my book.

Worst: clearly the Garnier Fructis line, which I kept using for a while even though it was clearly wrecking my hair.

Best: I've not found anything I was really satisfied with, but L'Oreal Elvive Citrus CR has been giving OK results for the last few years. I've been feeling lately that it was too drying (perhaps my hair has changed). Currently looking for a replacement.

I think my worst was probably Pantene. I used the S & C for a short time and stopped not long before I joined LHC. It didn't seem to damage my hair, but several months later I was cleaning out some travel bottles that had Pantene in them. I got it all over my hands and they felt coated in plastic and smelled of chemicals. YUCK! Glad I stopped that.

My best, really, is just regular old jojoba oil. It's the best thing to ever happen to my hair. Also, I just LOVE the Lush New! shampoo bar. It has done wonderful things for my scalp and I swear it's jacked up my hair growth rate.

Not many things are terrible in my hair - I've used Pantene products and Head and Shoulders 2in1 for long periods in the past. They didn't bring out the best in my hair, but it wasn't too bad. CO washing (with any really cheap cone-free!), honey treatments, SMT's, Oils (any), ACV rinses are all great. It would be hard to pick one from the list as the best as I think the combination of lots of lovely stuff and more gentle handling is making the improvement.

The only things (so far!) that have been bad was trying BS washes (dry, grabby hair; red blotchy skin) and a soapnut experiment that made my scalp go weird and ends a bit crunchy. I plan to give the soapnuts another chance as I think my technique using them needed tweaking. I gave the BS a couple of goes in different combinations but it didn't suit me or my hair. Shame - such a cheap product! My BBB makes my hair greasy looking too quickly so I don't use it much now.

I'm not certain if you'd consider it a hair care product, but I'd probably consider bleach to be the worst hair product I've ever used. It burned my scalp off and damaged my hair beyond belief.

Best would probably be VO5 SKR conditioner...I dunno. My hair isn't all that picky about products.

Worst: I'm having a hard time remembering what was truly hideous. The Willow Lake conditioners left my hair dry, T-gel intensive treatment or whatever smelled like road tar and made my scalp worse (I have dandruff) and the heavy scents in Herbal Essences make me break out in hives.
Pantene was overrated. Just left my hair in knots.

Best: Baking soda added to my cheap dandruff shampoo, and the coffee, beet/carrot and conditioner treatment I did yesterday. One of these appears to be helping my dandruff. I was hoping for a red tinge in my hair but it hasn't happened.
Oh, and Suave natural conditioner. Cheap, smells good, and leaves my hair silky and not dry!

Worst: Hmm, hard to say. Pantene, Herbal Essences, generic Humectress...all disasters. My hair also just decided one day to hate honey as well. One day it was fine, then the next time I used it...ugh. Stiff and crunchy.

Best: Mane and Tail conditioner, still. I've been addicted to that stuff for a good 5 years now. Henna. SMT with molasses instead of honey. Most recently, FOTE Aloe Vera gel as styling gel.

December 7th, 2008, 09:57 PM
WORST: BS/ACV I lost so much hair people started commenting. I only use it to clarify now before Henna. I do however love the concept of not using SLS Shampoos and Conditioners and since I went No-Poo, I have not gone back to traditional Shampoo again. My scalp was always dry, flaky and itchy with S & C.

BEST: Poo Bars from CV, Henna (my new love), AVG as a leave-in. When I was experimenting with no-poo I used egg yolks as a shampoo a few times and my hair loved it! Thick but not dry and fly away. I may start using egg again maybe every other wash, I forgot how much my hair liked it.

Haha...my worst ever has to be Pert PLUS 2-in-1 Shampoo & Conditioner. Mind you, this is from WAY back when I was about 7 years old and had terrible hair! My Momma is a "tomboy" lol and can't grow her hair past her shoulders for the life of her because of how rough she is on it. Poor Momma! I on the other hand have always been a girlie girl. She had me using this junk when I was younger, too. Thank goodness for growing up and moving out! Now my hair is past TB but not to classic. Yay! AND I am pampering Momma teaching her all about how to love her hair, coconut oil and all hehe. She IS a sweet Momma. I forgive her for her Pert Plus years. =P

Best: -Burt's Bees Super Shiny & More Moisture shampoos/conditioners. The Super Shiny stuff really does make your hair glossy and the More Moisture shampoo is the only sulfate-free shampoo I've found that actually lathers!

Hey Girlcat,
Just wondering, what was the issue you had with Loreal products? Is it because they have cones?

Yes, cones are the main culprit. They build up on my hair causing it to become dry and brittle; then it breaks off.
I used to use the Loreal in the brown-beige bottle targeted at ethnic hair. I suspect it was heavily loaded with cones.

I always had really good results when I used Pantene, but everyone is different:) I had good results with Fructis as well.

I can't think of any particular "worst" product I've used, at least within the past several years. I usually use whatever kind of cheap shampoo I happen to have at the time. I prefer to use VO5 conditioner.

Now, Tegrin dandruff shampoo was the BEST stuff in the world for my teenage scalp. It's a pity they don't make it anymore and now only have the much inferior pyrithione zinc and salicylic acid shampoos.

It's not really a product, but my hair HATES hard water. I have to use stronger shampoos (and, of course, more conditioner to help repair the damage) whenever I'm somewhere with hard water. Product-wise, my hair is pretty happy with anything I put on it. Olive oil made it really crunchy. My favorite is currently Mane'n'Tail. It's probably not the best thing I could be using, but my hair seems to like it, so I'll use it until it's gone.

I am one of those gals whose hair loves -cones; you've been warned. :O)

Best : F/X Silk Drops. They're supposed to get rid of frizzies (which I suppose they do) but I use them as a detangler. They're pretty much just silk and silicone and worth every penny (which isn't much...they're like 5 bucks a bottle). Anything that makes a comb slide through my hair is awesome in my book.

Worst : Garnier Fructisse Long and Strong. Ack! It made my hair dry, waxy, heavy, and gross. Just nasty stuff (and I love Pantene, so I don't think it was the -cones). I don't know what they put in that stuff, but it's the devil.

Hi Sheltie Momma, welcome (from a fellow newbie)

My bests are Garnier Fructis in the little tub and
St. Ives peppermint hair repair in the packets
Freeman's leave in conditioning spray is nice too, I stocked up when it was discontinued and still have 2 bottles.
Also there was a very nice shampoo with chammomile and mint I used to get from Victoria's secret...Can't find it anymore, but it was nice enough that I remember it 15 years after the last bottle.

Worst was some Prell shampoo I used while visiting a friend.
One use took about 4 washes to get back to normal.
I also get hives from Herbal Essence...wonder what the heck they put in that stuff??

I ordered some dairy whip, can't wait to try that, and I'm playing with camillia oil from Japan, still too soon to tell how that will work out. Seems a little hard to get evenly distributed.

John Frieda's Frizz Ease! It was dreadful for me. So many people I know said it was wonderful, but I should have thought about it - they were all women with heavily permed and bleached hair, and my hair is essentially virgin, never permed, dyed or bleached, so wouldn't need anything like the same level of specialist treatment.

It was a bit sticky and made my hair really dull and lifeless. Yes, I did use it correctly!

Oh man, garnier fructis *shudders* I remember a few years back when my hair was a total mess (it was so messed up I couldn't draw a brush through it), and I went to a very nice hairdresser, and she asked if I used shampoo with cones. And I told her what I used, she said that I should throw them in the garbage! And she recommended that I would use some sort of more organic shampoo.
Since then my hair has been fairly nice, especially since I started to use Lush shampoos. But the best so far is actually just plain water! And my boar bristle brush <3

I don't know whether it's available f.ex in States but it is in Europe -Gliss Kur hairproducts series, made by Schwarzkopf. So that is the best. Especially the yellow line, for hair with split ends, line for brown hair and the pink one with liquid silk (I use it now.) I have tried many , many products before, like Ziaja and Pantene, especially Pantene is strongly reccomended and I didn't feel the difference. After Gliss Kur- I feel it. My hair is sooo soft, I can feel it slide between my fingers when I rinse off the conditiner. And you don't even have to use shampoo. Heavy conditioner is enough. But I have shampoo too, effect is better. And it looks nice standing on the bathtub;)

And the worst - Garnier Fructis. I know that this products are avaliable not only in Poland. Terrible! Even after "rinse off" conditioner my hair get oily in one day instead of three. And my hair wasn't more healthy or anything. Just bad effects.

Worst: Herbal Essences shampoo. It gave me such bad sheds (though now that I think about it, that was about the time I moved to university, so I might've blamed my stress-sheds on the shampoo... hm).

Best: Giovanni Triple Treat Conditioner. I've been using it to wash my hair now for a while, and it's helped me cut my shampoos down from twice a day to twice a week.

To sum up- Garnier Fructis sucks in every place at the world, States, Europe, wherever, the same crap.

It hated Jason Thin to Thick products.

Best: Suave/ VO5 conditioners, henna and coconut oil on damp hair

Worst: Dabur Amla oil, Shikakai soap bar (red), castile soap, Pantene, Herbal Essence and there was a shampoo called Natura which I don't think is sold anymore but it made my scalp itch so baaaad!

the best for me would have to be Burt's Bees super shiny grapefruit & sugar beet shampoo and conditioner: keeps all the tangles mostly away for a long time (but my hair isn't as soft, and i'm still wanting to know how to make it that way)

and my worst would have to be Johnson and Johnson's Baby shampoo!!!! Yes I used that HORRIBLE shampoo for many years!!!!!

The worst for me probably was Herbal Essance shampoo. It smells great but it just strips absolutely every last drop of oil and moisture out of my hair. My favorite so far is Burt's Bees Pomagranite and Soy conditioner. I think I like it even better than the Raspberry Brazil Nut because it smells heavenly and works great for CO. :)

Apart from Garnier Fructis I usedto use shampoos and conditioners for oily hair and dandruff for years. Not long ago I realised that my hair isn't too oily any longer as I finished growing and maturing. And I have never had a dandruff:D Using such products was a bad habit. And I didn't know it was bad. Now I'm using moisturizing things, like my favorite Gliss Kur:)

My best has to be Keracare Creme Humecto Conditioner.

My worst has to be Aussie 3 min Deeeep Conditioner (made my hair to coarse not moisturizing) and La Bomba Conditioner (this conditoner stinks and smells like plastic and glue) both hubby and my son retched when I use to use it.

Worst: Would have to be Garnier Fructis' 3-MINUTE UNDO DRYNESS REVERSAL TREATMENT. Ugh...it just...ugh. It was full of little beads that would barely come out of my hair, it stunk terribly, it made my face itchy and hot, and it did NOTHING for my hair.

Best: Would have to be the Suave Coconut Conditioner. It's really funny, that with all the money I've spent on hair products, a 99 cent bottle of conditioner did more for my hair than all those products ever did. It made it feel thick, look shiny, and made my normally dry, damaged, and crunchy ends soft, touchable and...dare I say...luscious! :) hehe. And it smells heavenly as well! :)

Well my worst have been Pantene and Sunsilk. The hair cream gives me dandruff right after 1 or 2 days of use.

And my best products:

- Frizz-Ease by John Frieda I fell in love with this serum. This was my first favourite product ever. After I tried this I decided to grow my hair haha!!
- Chocolate Shampoo & Chocolate Spa Mask by Melrohs (Professional Brand only for Mexico) This shampoo is great for my hair, it's pure gold, it has cocoa butter in it and smells like chocolate!! Yummy!!!
- NaturalHair Shine Capture by Tahe (Professional Brand) The bottle of 16.9 oz is quite expensive (around 80 dollars) but this is just the best conditioner I've ever used in my life. JUST THE BEST. It leaves my hair shiny as a diamond, so soft that it's unvelievable, OMG, I have no words to describe it. Too bad it's too expensive!! And you can get it only in Hair Salons.

The worst product I have ever tried was a shampoo from a dutch warehouse brand, called hema, it was specially made for red hair. It made my hair super greasy, it lost all the shine and it made it heavy.

The best hair products for me are from Lush, they contain only natural ingredients and they have made my hair super shiny, healthy and smelling gorgeous! Their hair treatments are also super!

My worst was Fructis and Pantene... and Dove. They all made my scalp extremely itchy and red and angry.

My best... CitriShine. Cone heaven. My hair really loves it.

March 26th, 2010, 01:02 PM
Worst: Garnier Frutis anything or Herbal Essences shampoos and conditioners. G.F. just made my hair like straw and H.E., although loved by many, make my scalp gunky and dry all at the same time.

Best: Coconut Oil, my new :heartbeat and Silk n' Smooth serums.

As we can see so far, products that are recomended in TV and everywhere, like Dove, Pantene, Sunsilk and Herbal Essences are the worst.
The best products are these cheap, almost unknown little bottles that we find accidentaly in small shops:):)

The worst has definitely been the VO5 Moisture Milks line. Darn Strawberries and Cream smelled so good, but that was before I realized that my hair hated protein. I would always wonder why my hair felt so crud-tastic afterward. Thank goodness the realization dawned on me!

The best ones have to be the Giovanni line, in particular the 50:50, which leaves me with slightly happier hair than the Tea Tree Triple Treat. They feel good going in and rinsing out, and my hair doesn't tell me it's worse for wear.

Every now and then I would use a little of Sally's GVP Conditioning Balm (generic Biolage) as a leave-in, which would work well also.

Kaijah
March 27th, 2010, 01:37 PM
Worst would be anything containing protein. :demon: The product itself could be totally high quality or the lowest .75 cent drugstore conditioner, but protein just fries my hair like an egg on a hot engine block.

Best... I have to say Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose. My hair LOVES it for everything - regular condish, leave in, deep treatment, it's a match made in heaven. Also a coconut oil + almond oil + shea butter mixture.

cmnt831
March 27th, 2010, 02:10 PM
I hate to call it worst, because it really worked for a while, but an all natural shampoo with glycerin eventually made my hair a frizzy sticky mess. (It was for formulating with and isn't for sale in a store). Now I stay away from glycerin.

Best would have to be Giovanni conditioner (Smooth as Silk) and shea butter/olive oil mix that I make. Hair is happy now. :D

March 27th, 2010, 04:04 PM
The worst ever was Blue Magic Coconut Hair Conditioner. I didn't check the label for ingredients (shame on me) and it was full of petroleum! It made my hair sticky and nasty. My favorite is my Redken Dry/Damaged leave in. Smells delicious and is really moisturizing.

I used Pantene years ago and my hair felt very dry. I use Herbal Essences now and it makes my hair feel very soft and easy to detangle. I also like Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Instant Repair Treatment.

March 28th, 2010, 07:04 PM
I agree with you on the pantene one. I did try their newest conditioner and it worked the first 3 times then had the opposite effect. Even when i changed up my shampoo/conditioner routine it still made my hair feel quite dry and horrible when i used it again.
And plus ive heard theres all sorts in pantene products. One girl's hair fell out in clumps! She was in the newspaper.

Okay..
worst - l'oreal elvive damage care. It actually made my hair really dull and sticky.
Best - Herbal essences silk and shine shampoo and conditioner.
The best conditioner around!

March 30th, 2010, 07:01 PM
Worst- Infusium 23- man, a cpl sprays of that in my wet hair and I could comb through it in seconds. BUT- it left my ends so flippin crunchy! I am guessing it has protein in it. It caused me more breakage, but I kept using it because I thought, ok well maybe it will start working soon. Then, I learned about coconut oil, proteins, and moisture, and threw away the Infusium. The best product- definitely coconut oil

March 30th, 2010, 09:04 PM
Worst product for me is a toss up between garnier fruictis fortifying shampoo(years ago) and any hair product with protein. Best is unrefined coconut oil. My hair adores it and it smells yummy!

Worst is definitely Pantene. I used it a few times and threw it away.

Funny story: Our maid saw it in the trash can and I told her she could have it when she asked. A few days later her scalp was flaking and itchy, and she had to quit using it, too! The only person who adores Pantene is my boyfriend... and he's got great hair. It's really odd how some things are terrible for some people and work great for others.

Best is... hm. Anything by Kerastase.

Worst: Burt's bees.. I tried the shampoo bar (dreadful) and grapefruit and sugar beet conditioner. Both made my hair feel coated with grease. I don't know if it has changed since, but I was so disappointed that I lost so much money with them.

Best: This is hard. I guess Suave conditioners. They are cheap and I CO so they do wonders for my hair.

March 31st, 2010, 07:54 AM
Worst: Yves Rocher shampoo (can't remember exact product): Made my hair dry and my scalp itchy &stinky (sorry if I put you of know). That company advertises as "natural" and "natural cosmetic" but is actually normal stuff containg lots of silocones, artificial colours, artificial scent... not really good (it was different 20, 15 years ago... ). It is really very disappointing.
Best: Simple coconut oil. Calling it simple is.... aaah.... not justified considering the wonderful results, but compared to "high end" products it is just... marvelous :eyebrows:

Best: Joico chelating shampoo gives me soft and fluffy hair like in a commercial.
Worst: I tried an organic shampoo and conditioner that was so thick I could not for the life of me rinse it out. It was disgusting and smelled like funeral parlor flowers. I have forgotten the brand.

Best: Any low sulfate diluted shampoo works the best. Organix conditioner are amazing for my hair! And Kerastase Cat Fine line was really great too!

Worst: A Pantene conditioner I tried severel years ago, my hair was super limp. Still I want to give Pantene a second time, since its full of cones and my hair has being acting frizzy lately. Cones can tame that!

August 27th, 2015, 09:58 PM
Worst: Anything Garnier. My scalp hates the shampoo's and the conditioners just don't condition. Dried out, crunchy hair and an itchy, zit filled scalp. Anything sulfate free was a mess for me too, I need the cleansing sulfates.

Best: Honestly? Don't laugh, but Suave 2 in 1's!! Both the Almond Veranda and Morning Bliss leave my hair feeling clean but not stipped. It's just cleansing enough that I don't get scalp problems. I love them, I just pair them with a vo5 of suave conditioner. Pantene ultra light is my favorite for cones.

things that immediately come to mind-

Worst- 1)Tresemme naturals avocado and aloe- leaves scalp with a stinging burning feeling ..hours later even. Smell is really strong and also lingers.

2)Totally Twisted herbal essence -gel feels very product-y heavy and drying

any of the million fruity-berry smelling drugstore products ..just cant stand that scent

Best- still trying to figure it out but worth mentioning is:

Kinky Curly Curling Custard-for soft shiny defined bouncy curls

Shea Moisture Yucca Anti-breakage Strengthening Mask - made a discernible difference by improving elasticity

Best: Suave Keratin and Moroccan infusion shampoos. Herbal Essences Drama Clean and Long Term Relationship conditioners. Suave naturals conditioner
Worst: White Rain coconut shampoo. Vo5 conditioners which worked for me once or twice then quit. Tresemme shampoos for the amount of hair fall they cause.

Best: I’m using TreSemme Keratin shampoo & conditioner now and I’m really happy with it. I also like John Frieda Brillant Brunette & Loreal’s sulfate free products.

Worst: Without a doubt, Catwalk Curls Rock. Several years ago, I had gotten a perm. These products have way too much wax in them and my hair ended up breaking off in 2 inch chunks. I tried to salvage what I could, but I ended up having to cut it all off in a short shag. Never again!!

August 28th, 2015, 12:34 PM
Worst:

Years ago I bought some Schwarzkopf shampoo that were supposed to give volume to the roots. My scalp seriously hurt afterward. Never again.

Bought Pantene shampoo and conditioner once. It left my hair looking awfully limp and greasy.

Natures gate herbal shampoo (or maybe it was the conditoner). My hair liked it, but the smell! The smell!

I cant remember the brand, but I found some shampoo and conditioner that were marketed as "natural", "organic" and all that stuff. It was also protein laden. Ive never seen my hair as tangly as it was then.

Best:

The "old" herbal essence shampoo. The orange one. It smelled like heaven.

Simple, organic coconut oil. Any brand so far.

Best is the line from Andrélon Keratin Repair (shampoo, conditioner, mask, serum and detangler-spray).

I never used a shampoo I didn't really like, for me there's not such a big difference. But I pretty much hate every conditioner or mask that is really thick.

Worst: Years and years ago before I knew anything about hair care I used pantene. Truly awful stuff. I can feel myself cringing when I see it in other people's bathrooms :D. But that said though, pretty much any well known brand you see on a supermarket shelf is made of equally terrible ingredients.

Best: I've had great success in the past with Arganology, though I believe there are two brands out there who use the exact same name. The one I'm talking about comes in amber bottles. But what I currently use now is even better; the Voodoo Black shampoo bar by Beauty and the Bees. One of the few products to ever leave my dry hair feeling moisturized. :o You can check it out here (http://www.beebeauty.com/products/new-voodoo-black-bamboo-shampoo/)

Garnier Fructis Length and Strength :cheer:is perfect for me, but I can no longer find it in stock anywhere.
White Rain Shine hairspray - same thing, discontinued.
L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Extaordinary Oil for All Hair Types - SUPER shine. Love this!
Connie Stevens's Forever Spring Silken Lustre Shampoo - very good when my hair was just shoulder length.
WORST:
My hair hates Suave. My budget loves it. Hair wins.
Extra Stength Argan Oil of Morocco Conditioner - makes my hair gummy.
L'Oreal Nutri-Gloss High Shine Glossing Mist - strong, plastic-y smell like very strong cheap hairspray. Had to get out of bed and wash it out. Ugh.

Worst= bleach, hahaha. If something literally burns the hair off of your scalp, don't use it. Who knew?! ;)

Best= Jamaican Black Castor oil, Sesame oil, rosemary, and tea tree oil. Simply a magical blend, and I can't choose just one of the four. :happydance: And this may be weird but I LOVE the nutty smell of castor and sesame oil. Now product wise is probably Suave Everlasting Sunshine and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrish. Those are my main conditioners.

Worst, J.A.S.O.N Biotin shampoo. Would not wash out, gelled my hair tight against my scalp. Never again!

Worst: Baking soda wash with vinegar rinse. Just couldn't get them to work for my fine hair.

Best: Suave Essentials(Naturals) Juicy Green Apple shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo suds up, cleans well, and rinses clean. The condtioner has just enough moisture for my picky hair. I've tried other versions of the Suave Essentials with less than stellar results (Strawberry, Waterfall Mist, Tropical Coconut, Everlasting Sunshine, Clarifying ...). I think maybe it's the glycerin that's in the Green Apple shampoo that my hair likes.

I've really wanted to go a more "natural" route and tried all kinds of shampoo bars, sulfate-free/organic "natural" products, etc, but my hair misbehaves with them. I also have trouble with cones. So, if my hair stays full and shiny while shampooing and conditioning daily with Suave Green Apple, then I will just try to keep it happy.

Best: So far, I will dare say *Andalou Naturals* might be the one.
That's all I have been using this year as conditioner and shampoo and, even though, it is mostly organic, it has amodimethicone or something and panthenol which is enough for me.
I had tried avalon and shea but nothing like this one..it gives me great slip and it leaves my hair moisturised. . The perfect balance between good and necessary ingredients for scalp and length.

*Panacea hair salve* that is what I use for deep treatments. It is hard as hell to spread on my hair. So I melt it with a lighter oil and it eases a bit. But it gives me the bouncier of the wurls I have ever had.
I will buy another 50 dollar pot this Christmas. One lasts me more than a year. The one I got last Christmas is still enough for a few months.
*argan, castor and jojoba, great oils that I use to oil scalp and length when I feel like it. They work very well but you need to be cautious with quantities. Specially with castor I mix it with jojoba to be able to apply it.

Worst: I do not use much on my hair or try anything new but back in the beginning of the year or maybe even last year I thought my dry scalp could be dandruff and I was trying harsher shampoos like T-gel and such. Which would only make it drier.
Not the shampoo's fault but I wanted to try something not as harsh so I bought the Jason's organic for dandruff and lord... I only used it twice and now I use it to clean the toilet.
My scalp would sting, get hot and itch.. and iI would get this nasty burning sensation... nor even the neutrogena, which has tar, did that.. urgh.
I did not like organix either. Left my hair crunchy, same thing with coconut oil or tresemmé. Way back in the day.

Honourable mention for *Pantene conditioners*, as always.
I call them the instant life saver.
I always keep one in my cabinet for emergencies.

Best product I ever used: redken mask, chi shampoo and conditioners, hask deep treatment packets, tresemme naturals avocado conditioner and their wavy conditioner.

Yes! Tresemme shampoo was the worst! I tried it several years ago and I couldn't even get my hands through my hair afterwards. It was a tangled clump. It's so funny to me that what I hate is what some people love. At the time, my aunt loved tresemme.
Other worst: this orange shampoo. It was supposed to be better for hair... I think I was trying to eliminate sulfate at the time? Idk, it was way before I knew of the LHC. Anyway, it, too, made my hair a tangled mess.
Also worst, Garnier shampoo. Love how it smells but it made my scalp break out.

Best: herbal essences long term relationship shampoo and conditioner, suave conditioner in green apple, Garnier wonder waves.

One of the worst so far, and thank goodness they don't make it anymore, is the Henna Cure&Care mask (non colouring); I'm sure it's this that is giving me tangles to no end, so I am going to be smacking my HE Hello Hydration on there as a 2nd conditioner just to use it up. Because I have more tubs of it and it needs to be used up.

When I wasn't yet BSL, it still worked for me.

One of the worst I could mention that I can recall is definitely Organic Shop Organic Avocado & Honey Express Repair Hair Mask. My hair was so frizzy after using it. I havent found much bad, but generally speaking, for me the worst has been Organic Care sulphate/silicone free shampoo/conditioner combo. Left my hair tangly, fragile and greasy after only using for a month.

Also any Garnier ‘cone free’ conditioner for cowashing.

Most generic shampoos and COs never worked well. Neither did the cheap products. Espically when they contained sulfates and silicones

My best products
Best oil is JBCO from tropic island living. It works so well. Under that is coconut oil then argon and olive.
Best EOs Lavender and Peppermint
Best Shampoo, Shea Moisture JBCO and Coconut and Hibiscus
Best Conditioner so far is Maui Moistures Vanilla bean for thick curly hair
Best styler is Shea moistures curling gel Souffle coconut and hibiscus. Paired with they curl and style milk second place is the JBCO gel they make and 3rd us Mane Choice biotine infused gel.

If I had to choose a best out of all of them is most certainly the oils they give so many benefits.

Worst? Hmm...

Nature's Gate and Avalon Organics shampoo/conditioner. Just terrible. Couldn't even get a comb through my hair.
Mane n Tail conditioner, holy crap that matted my hair like crazy.
Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures conditioner, dried my hair out and matted it like crazy. I was so confused because I didn't think it had much protein in it.
Suave Rosemary + Mint shampoo, that irritated my scalp so much it felt like it was burning!

Best...
Dove daily moisture conditioner. Lovely. So much moisture and silkiness.

Best haircare products - Pantene Nutrient Blends Complete Curl Care Shampoo, Pantene Nutrient Blends Complete Curl Care Conditioner, GVP Conditioning Balm, and Melanin Haircare’s line.

Worst- Jessicurl product line, DevaCurl product line, Mane And Tail line, Herbal Rssences line, Shea Moisture Moisture product line, most products sold in the ethic haircare isles, most of Garnier Fructis products, most of Pantene products, most of VO5 products, most of Tresemme’s products, most of Suave’s products, and all styling gels (which is why when I desire to use gel in my hair I only use aloe Vera gel).

I'll just speak from recent experiences because frankly my memory of these things is not the best lol.

Worst: The Shea Moisture 10 in 1 renewal shampoo wrecked havoc on my hair. Too much protein for me, I believe. Sad because I've had good experiences with SM before.
The Suave Ocean Breeze was also extremely lackluster, not the worst but not something I'd use again. Oh and this shampoo bar I tried... Primal Elements Facets of the Sea... horrible.
And using baking soda + acv instead of shampoo and conditioner, not a good idea for me. Tried that back in high school, I can see how dry my hair was from the photos.

Best: Certain VO5 conditioners, and Garnier Whole Blends Legendary Olive Replenishing conditioner. Cone and protein free is the way for me.

My hair is pretty normative I guess? Nothing in my remembrance has ever been catastrophic. I’ve used Giovanni shampoos and conditioners for the longest though, they never do me wrong. I especially like Smooth As Silk conditioner as my fine hair enjoys protein regularly. Plus you can get them in the big pump bottles at TJ Maxx/Marshall’s for pretty cheap.

Joico k-pak range Plus Elvive's no cut creme are the best then the fructis Hairfoods Banana, Aloe and papaya (though papaya stinks)

The worst has been fructis grow strong shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel like straw. Same with Hasks volumising shampoo ( it smells great though)
